  • I really had no problems about bpm on Vdj. Just got traktor now seems I got alot more work to do on this!!

  • Good quality tutorial. Easy to follow & understand.

  • Great tutorial

  • Thanks for the video pal :)

PS: Were you in Independence Day? ;)

  • I really appreciate the clear way you explain these techniques. It's very helpful. I usually use the Tap button to grid the tracks, but I learned some new tricks from your video. Thanks!

  • thank you very much for this tutorial...you helped me really in my DJ life !!!

  • What about using the Tap function? If the bpm is way off like the 1st track, I just tap the Tap button to the beat and voila - I get the correct bpm value.

  • @SoulN1Music

Alternatively you can warp them in ableton, and then export the song.

It's a lot of work but. It pretty much always becomes a mess if you don't do that.

You can do it without sacrificing the groove but it will become more static.

And beatmatching live bands.....don't try lol

  • Thank you for this. This was really helpfull.

I always used vinyl and timecode and finally gonna beatgrid my tracks now and this gave me some insight on how to do it faster.

However do you have any ideas on how to beatgrid without clicking?

I have RSI problems , I don't even use a normal mouse but a trackball cause the pain goes in my shoulder pretty fast.

I just wanna map some controls to a controller and not touch the mouse at all if possible. TYVM!

  • @kuyomayasaka Like you said, just map the commands to the controller. In the controller manager you can add ins under "Track BPM" for setting the grid marker, moving the grid, and changing the BPM, and you can set the amount to change it by. That will change the grid as you press buttons instead of clicking the mouse.

  • how did you get traktor to get the key of a track?

  • @Djcol1990 I didn't! I used Mixed in Key; I highly recommend that software.

  • Thanks a lot, I like the tips and you made it quite easy. I would like to add however that you can also turn on the Tick and the Headphone cue buttons, and this way you can also get a metronome at the beatgrid tempo, so you can match up your song even faster, or more precisely by essentially beatmatching your grid to the metronome tempo!

  • @tuckyou10 yes excellent point! The tick is definitely helpful particularly if you're just beginning with the program. Personally I don't use it much anymore because it is a really annoying sound, and it is ridiculously loud when you move the track slowly over it as you're adjusting. Drives me nuts, lol. You can also loop a reference track instead of the tick.

  • Thanks pal, very helpful

  • Very nice.

  • I just want to say thanks. This was a really helpful video and I really appreciate it. I'm sure many of us do and don't have the time to say thanks, so I'll say it for them as well. It's really great, clear, informative, helpful presentation on beatgridding traktor. Thank you.

  • @SoulN1Music you really want to work with loops when you have live drummers because your grid will fall off sooner or later. Just find a section where the drumming is really tight and grid that section, then set a loop there. Ean Golden has a great video on mixing with rock songs in traktor that follows the same principles. The alternative is don't grid these songs at all -- beat match them by ear like we did in the good old days ;) Just don't press "SYNC" if the grid is off!

  • Hi bud. This video was really helpful. Many thanks!

  • great tips!

  • yeah, this is the most lucid and easy to follow video on beat gridding so far. thanks

  • sweet, thanks bro. big up from sunny South Africa !

  • Just posted another vid focusing on dnb and dubstep; same principles but different style - check it out.

  • any tips for beatgridding drum n bass, been trying with techstep with very limited results.

  • @purebokety I was thinking about doing a video on this; I might do it. Honestly though the process is exactly the same. dnb tracks tend to be remarkably consistent; they grid up perfectly nearly every time.

  • Great tutorial, you really show the best ways to beat grid. Cheers!

  • any chance u could make a video showing how to use beatgridding with drum and bass tracks, being trying with some tech-step tracks with very limited success

  • please, make more videos! you're tutorials are absolutely spot on.

  • Thanks so much! Helped out a ton. Simple and easy to understand.

  • This is just amazing, ;) a followup question to diskjokk's question, how do you beatgrid a rock track? is it still the same process as with a 80s track? finding a loop in the start or towards the end?

  • @radrad yeah same exact thing. Best thing to do is figure out what part of the track you're going to want to play, and set your loops from there. Some tracks you may only want one loop.

  • Perfect! Thank you. I think I understand how to put this 80's mix together now. Thanks again.

  • Thank you very much for this. This is very helpful.

  • I can see how this works with a straight up house track, however, i'm having trouble beatgridding with an 80's mix i'm creating where there are BPM changes. If I beat grid the beginning of a track and then move to the middle, it throws everything off that I did in the beginning of the track. Any suggestions on how I can make beat gridding work for 80's music?

  • @diskjokk Basically you can find a loop that is on beat for 8 or 16 beats more or less, and set and save that loop. You should do this with a loop in the beginning and one near the end. Hopefully they are the same BPM but if not you will need to save the loops and keep track of the BPM difference in the comments. See Ean Golden's video on gridding rock tracks, it's the same principle. /watch?v=AM5grEYiEcU

  • @iTubeYou Perfect! This is very helpful. Thank you.

  • @iTubeYou Ah, ok. This is very helpful. Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.

  • @iTubeYou Perfect! Thank you. I think I understand how to put this 80's mix together now. Thanks again.

  • @iTubeYou Sorry for all the re-posts - I'm new to Youtube and accidently posted a reply several times.

  • Hey I was wondering if breakdowns are possible to beat grid? My track seems sound all lined up but my breakdown isn't.

    Thanks

  • @techjazh1 depends on the breakdown; some tracks will keep the beatcount steady through the breakdown while other more troublesome producers (I'm lookin at you Fatboy Slim) will change up the count on the breakdown or even change the tempo entirely. If the BPM stays the same, it's easy to just put a new grid marker on the "1" after the count starts up again, and off you go.

  • @techjazh1 (contd): It may not be on the "1" in the song -- Traktor really really really needs to allow users to re-start the beat counter with a new grid marker cue point -- but at least it will be lined up. If the tempo changes after the breakdown tho you have to make a note in the comments that there are two bpms -- another thing Traktor needs to fix so you have have 2 bpms in one song. Until then lookup Ean Golden's video on gridding rock tracks!

  • one of the best tuto I have seen! We need some more!! Cheers!!

  • wot a gr8 video,i was about to de-install Traktor n go back to serato.

Also just beat grid a pain in the arse song which moves all over the place, now all my old funk n soul is gonna get delt with!!!!!!

    MEGA,MEGA VIDEO.

  • The best beatgrid video!!!!!!!!!!!

    Make more ur "The Man"

  • haha! that changes everything, thanks a million! (o:

  • Can you set beatgrids at different points in the track? Even with electronic music, after a transition the beat can come in at a different point, also beat drift with non electronic music. This could make a loop set at the beginning rest at a different point than a loop at the end. Know of a way to compensate? TY

  • You can add another beatmarker whenever you want. Unfortunately Traktor doesn't give the new beatmarker a different BPM, nor does it restart the numbering on the beatcounter, but if those limitations aren't a problem (e.g. for straight techno tracks that have an offtempo breakdown but pick back up at the same BPM) it can be useful to have more than one beatmarker.

  • Best tutorial. Thank You. I will reload Traktor pro in my pc once more. Great Job.Would like to see a tutorial on those Modifiers. Thanks Again

  • I want a tutorial on those modifiers too! lol ... thanks for all the comments folks I'm glad this is helpful! Will do more once I figure out if there's anything else I know how to do...

  • Awesome stuff - wish i had this when i first started using traktor - would be a lot less trial and error before i mastered the art of gridding

  • Amazing Prof. Ben !! This is a very well put together tutorial !!!

  • this video is very helpful.

  • Absolutly Unreal video, make more, 5* well done pal
