I could tell you a few things about Winwick, but I'm not going to. Let's just say that if you've lost all hope in life, that's where you go. I speak of experience. Mike S.
That church in Winwick though is hundreds of years old and still has musket ball holes from the Civil War when Cromwells Army fought there. There is a school in between Winwick and Newton called Redbank which is named after a famous battle where the 4,000 Scots were massacred....they said the river ran red with their blood !
Winwick was in Lancashire along with the rest of Warrington until 1974 when the town became part of Cheshire. I should know, I still live in Warrington, and I was born here. Mike S.

Alan Waplington was a former Headmaster of mine at Abraham Guest High School in Wigan. An inspiration, sorely missed.

The programme was made during the mid 1970's, however, it was more than likely still being transmitted during 1984.

I was taught by Alan Waplington at Kingswood too - he was the best teacher there by far and inspired me to be a history teacher too.
A genuinely lovely guy!!
