  • WOW, this is an oldie but an awesome New wave track. I use to LOVE Toronto's CFNY, it was THE BEST radio station EVER. Those were the days the DJ would play a great deal of tunes they themselves loved or discovered. CFNY broke many a new wave acts into North America in heyday and it was a great time because of the fact New Wave was a new music style as well. I was 18 year old in 82, and looking back it was a wonderful time to be a kid.

  • how about up loading the other songs like lazor love

  • @stingerbarton I'd like to upload all the songs at a higher bit rate but I'm not sure if it's converting them to video that reduces the audio quality, or the way I uploaded them to youtube. I will include the ones I missed for sure.

  • does anybody have an mp3 of this track?

  • @garrettnb

If you use the Firefox extension Easy Youtube Video Downloader, you can d/l it as an mp3.

  • @xxooliver that does mean that the quality is stuck at the crappy mono track that youtube puts out in it's 240p videos

  • @garrettnb The 320 mp3 I have is 6 megs. If that's not too big for an email attachment I could send you a copy.

  • I was looking for this about 1 year ago and couldn't find it. Thanks for posting. A great old track from the New Wave days or yore.

  • I still remember Metropolitan Life like it was yesterday. What a great loss.

  • Love that you posted this! Love the crackle of the vinyl at the end! If only my copy sounded this good. It is a crime that the CD of this excellent album is out of print.

  • Chez 106 in Ottawa used to play this a lot (back when CHEZ was amazing!) ... a great song that still pops into my head now and then almost thirty years later ... thanks for posting

  • I knew BB Gabor personally, I met him a few times at El Mocambo and Grossman's, he died several years ago. Jo Magyar Ember.....

  • 80's chom fm played this in Montreal...loved it, still do.

    RIP B B Gabor.

Big thank you for posting this...any other cool songs.

  • Wow!!!! I remember CFNY playing this back then. NYET NYET Soviet too! Now I have to look up Art Bergman.

  • @seandeeify Bergmann - I gave him a ride home once....

  • My Friends and I use to check out every local show he performed back in the 80's. He always put on a great performance and was a talented musician. RIP Gabor Hegedus.

  • Wow-I checked a few times and couldn't find this track or any of the others from this LP--thank you! This is a classic 80s Canadian LP.

  • Again, thanks for sharing :) I don`t think of heard any of the stuff with Todd Rundgren ;-)

  • I remember hearing this song on the radio when it first came out...I was just a kid but I STILL like it and find it catchy. Cool! Thanks for adding it ! :-))))

  • Hey, you're welcome!

Gabor wrote some great songs, as well as being an excellent singer and guitarist. I heard some of the material that was produced by Todd Rundgren for a third album, and it was really good too.

  • @xxooliver You mean "Celtic Cross" on the compilation "Driving in the Rain:3 AM - Songs to Get Lost With" that Ralph Alfonso remastered? It's really beautiful - Ralph said that he wasn't sure if it was one that Rundgren produced - although it was on a cassette tape that B.B. Gabor's widow had that had that was marked "Produced by Todd Rundgren".

  • @ripporter I don't think it was ever released, but that sounds like it could be it. I knew Gabor in '85 and heard the unmastered tracks when he got back from Rundgren's Bearsville studios. All I remember is one song with the lyric "They say that love's ephemeral, I don't mind. Oooh, that may be true, ...but I'll still take love, ...anytime." He also had a recording of The Tubes doing one of his songs. They had been doing sessions at Bearsville at the time he was there.

  • @xxooliver Wow, you might be the only one to have heard them - I don't know if Celtic Cross was the only thing that was in good enough condition to remaster from the cassette, given that cassette tape can deteriorate quite a bit over the years! Do you know what became of the reel-to-reel tapes from the studio?

  • @ripporter I have no idea about the tapes. All I heard was the cassette Gabor brought back out west just after the sessions when he played it for some of his friends. It could be the same one his widow had. I'd like to hear "Celtic Cross". Any chance of uploading a copy?

  • @xxooliver I'm not sure if I can find it! My CDs are all over the place - you can go to cdbaby and download it for 99 cents - search for Driving in The Rain 3 AM
