4:52 was a really nice move by Hart. Most of the time when someone jumps off the turnbuckle and gets a boot to the face they don't even attempt a move but Hart actually put his elbow out
Yes, it was kayfabe, which was implied with the term 'angle'. Rarely does anyone actually have anything in pro wrestling, save for a really crappy upbringing, but I'm editorializing on that last point.
Surprisingly, no; Mountie beat him fair and square for it, though the angle was played up that Bret was suffering from a very high fever at the time, which contributed to his loss.
Was Bret Hart getting busted open intentional or was it by an accident? The only reason I ask is because I remember watching this as a kid live on tv and it was really the first time I ever saw someone busted open, especially during this time period in wrestling history.
bret talks about this in his book...for this match, it was privately planned prior to the match for bret to be busted open...only he and piper knew about it. blading was a $500 in the WWF back then...as a matter of fact the very next match Flair bladed himself and he was fined, Bret was not...as they played it off like it was a bad shot by piper that busted him.
the mountie, the same guy bret lost the title to just a while earlier. this was all during the course of several months, by the way, as mountie and piper didn't hold the belt for too long.
How about Heenan loving the match at 4:57...I love it. I love it when Heenan really puts the match over. The biggest marks are the people in the business themselves, and when they love something, you know it's good.
Can hear Piper calling bulldog at 00:33.

Bret was actually advised not to defend the title b/c of the fever, but, champion that he was, he refused to back down.
bink 2 years ago
you do know he didn't ACTUALLY have a fever. he even says so in his book.

this was a time the Intercontinental championship had more meaning in the wwe
it a shame they dont make a hugh story line for this great championship, same go for the US title
and they should bring back the European title and the hardcore title and put it on ECW and middleweight title

It was intentional blading which was done magnificently by Bret during the match.
