This other vid says that carpenter ants don't eat wood they eat protein. What's up with this? Do they just munch out the rotten wood to make more space? Do they actually eat good solid wood or was it already water damaged and that's why they moved in?

@EdVidz Most of the time they get in water damaged wood, because it's easier for them to build their nest in it. They don't eat wood, they eat everything but it (vegetation, insects, even their own mates dead bodies). And yeah, you see them throwing that saw dust out because they are cleaning their galleries. Those fellows are pretty clean!

As they dig through the log they just want to get rid of it so they don't do anything with it...they just leave it there.

Actualy...she is a major worker, possibly a elite worker...they are the large workers who either guard the minor workers or the main entrances.

If im correct, the carpenter ants have no soldiers, only the two larger ants to defend...and although you may consider them soldiers...which basicly the elite is...but only to the queen...they are not.
