actually Zumaya has terrible mechanics. he puts way to much stress on his arm and not his body. thats why he has had so many arms troubles and wont last much longer as a big league pitcher . just my opinion. if you have seen him throw in person which I have many times you could see it. hes all arm

The majority of his injuries have come from things off the field.

Believe it or not, he helped to the tearing of a ligament in his arm from playing guitar hero.

He hurt his shoulder helping his dad carry boxes.

Great comment on pushing off the ball of his foot. It's called plantar flexion and when added at the correct time such as Tim Lincecum does right before he's about to land it increases stride length and with that usually comes velocity.

its a combination of the speed that he turns his pelvis, upper trunk, and arm plus the the amount of weight that comes down on his RIGHT foot. has hardly anything to do with his back foot.
