The infantry would come to our installation sometimes to get a bit of rest and resupply with food and such. We heard from them what was going on in the field. None of the guys I spoke to saw acts of violence on civilians. I only know what occurred around me. We served with honor, most did.

I have spoken to Vietnam Vets I can assure you that they never forget. Its in their dreams flashbacks during the day. Mental hell. I know people who killed a young boy over there and killed a baby. P.S. I left in 1968. It is possible given all the Communist propaganda and negative publicity the situation deteriorated after that. I never heard a GI brag about doing atrocities nor witnessing any. Atrocities by my unit would have been disciplined.

If what you say is true, there should be people (Americans) punished severely. If I had witnessed that I WOULD HAVE REPORTED IT. I don't say it never happened, but none of that was tolerated by men of honor. Americans were sent to Vietnam to repel the communists who were terrorists in every respect. I didn't say My Tho never happened. I said none of that was allowed in my unit. We did everything we could to improve the lives of the villagers. We WANTED to help them have a better life. Our medics gave medical care to Vietnamese. We found ways to create work for them to earn money. This man should give names of the soldiers who harmed civilians not make accusations. Who were the men? Give names for proof.

USA was in Vietnam to stop the spread of communism. That was clear at the start. True that Ho Chi Minh asked the US for help. Why the US ignored him and was loyal to the French is beyond my understanding. France shows no gratitude to the US after two times helping during world wars. It is most upsetting that you or any Vietnamese were victimized by any US soldier. That should NOT have happened. But again, the majority of US soldiers I knew were honorable and respected the Vietnamese people.

US feared the spread of communism. That's why it decided to go. That's all. If it actually cared about the Vietnamese, it would have helped them when Ho Chi Minh begged for help. He was the only Vietnamese at that time who truly understood international politics. And his initial intention was to bring democracy to the country, a democracy that the US had. But after the US fucked him and the Soviet decided to help, he decided to go with communism.

@davidallenroth No sirree. I was assigned to artillery. We went hilltop to hilltop by helicopter to support the infantry. We were required to build bunkers for the ammunition wherever we went. The infantry would come to our installation sometimes to get a bit of rest and resupply with food and such. We heard from them what was going on in the field. None of the guys I spoke to saw acts of violence on civilians. I only know what occurred around me. We served with honor, most did.

No! wrong again, my father was a Lt.col in the VNCH in 1975. He works along with the U.S CIA to eliminated the communism in S.E Asia. But, after South collapsed my family was grant by U.S commander to help my family out of that place. And to this day, I always grateful to that U.S Col. I never believed in racist.
