Hello....can you actually change from track to track in the sequencer screen and use the ipad to record, like from a booth that's away from your computer? I didn't see a record button on the ipad...seems kinda useless if all you can do is play with the faders...
@Rufus804 that's a pretty good idea. In the other video i have dub track creation set up along with transport controls for record and playback of MIDI. This might be better suited for an iPhone TouchOSC template rather than the iPad. Isn't there an app that already handles MMC transport stuff?
The idea with the faders is to make simultaneous multiple changes to levels, which you cannot do with a mouse.
I have a question about this software: Is it possible to set up multiple control surfaces that can be accessed via a swipe of the iPad screen?
For instance: let's say on one screen I had a control surface set up for faders, panning and transport controls. Then on another screen I had a control surface for EQ, insert effects, etc.
Is this possible? Now that I think about it I guess it would require you to run two instances of the software. I'm not sure if that is even possible.
@beandip79 TouchOSC allows you to set up multiple pages of controls, so you can have faders on one screen, EQ controls on another screen, Keyboard Input on a different screen, etc. You can download the editor and some of the template patches to see how this can be created in TouchOSC.
hey this is good to know, its really nice to see such good information on a vid, the true is you can buy USA iTunes gift cards at this store, they are legit USA iTunes Gift card store, they deliver to me by email, and Fast, my advise to you :)
I know the video was about the ipad but did you hear the track, idk if its the new ssl mixer of if he tweaked the sounds like that, but the track was real punchy even through youtube. Pefftv is that the sound of the mixer that has your drums sounding like that??????
@TheReasonableLogic EQ and compression from the Record Main Mixer SSL emulation is being applied, but i'm sure it's a combination of elements from the drums, drum tuning, the room, the microphones and mic placement. In the video, I'm just riding faders and adjusting pan.
FYI The original drum tracks are from the loopmasters Fistful of Drummers multitrack library
@TheReasonableLogic . I set the SSL compressors and EQ'd the drum tracks before presenting the video. All you really see though is panning and faders.
One huge benefit is that you can design your own layouts. This has a ton of usability benefits. Hardware controllers are one-size-fits-all, but given the variety of audio apps and the customizability of audio devices within those apps, a fully customizable controller layout is a very powerful feature, not to be underestimated.
It's not shown so much in these clips but you can also switch between page after page of custom layouts all running at the same time.
@Kaitain1977 agreed, the format of touchOSC on the iPad is proving to be quite useful for custom layouts. I made a special one for a live pa control. When I get my head out of maxmsp world for a minute, I'll post a video and the templates.
I have also this combination, but I am using AC-7 Pro on the iPad for the controller - it implements a Mackie Control surface pretty well. Up - Record already knows how to talk Mackie, down (as pointed out) not so configurable for layout (although the Mackie bank switch does cover all channels). I'm thinking have all tools available - AC-7 as well as this one, iXY on the iPhone.
As to why? - as a solo studio, just me on both console and instruments, have the iPad where I play, not where I mix.
@lanwolf1947 nice. i'll have to check out the app. My recording room is away from my workstation, so the iPwhatever is proving useful as a remote transport control.
cool --but what is the point if you have a good hardware controller or a multitouch pc ?? yo can buy a very good hardware controller for under $400 and a multitouch 20 inch is cheaper than the 3g version of the ipad
@FSK1138 This is meant as a test of the viability of OSC control over wifi. Ultimately it would be great just to have applications built for multitouch computers, but we still have to wait for software companies to adopt the technology.
Also, there's no controllable velocity mapping with the iPad, so it's not going to replace a keyboard or mpd controller. It is a very cool option though.
@FSK1138 The point is that the iPad can have totally different layouts tailor made for each device. With your hardware controller you're stuck with your typical 8 rotaries + 8 sliders + 8/16 pads, which is complete overkill for the Combinator and complete, um, underkill for Thor. You can't even control the old 14:2 mixer fully with only 8 faders. So... anything with a dynamic layout is a huge improvement over hardware controllers.
How bad is the latency with this set up?

Something makes me think a cheap MIDI controller would be far more suitable than using an iTampon.

this is awesome, i love how it even has multitouch paremeters, you could also theoretically assign those to a the values of a redrum correct, kurt?
