So, please accept the facts history has shown us : Civillian slaughtering took place in Cyprus indeed, but not as much as some Turkish people insist. Few times in the world do nations act quickly enough to stop ethnic cleansing. This was one of the few cases were action was taken and 100s of thousands of lives were saved.

On 1 August 1974, elements of the Turkish 28th Division expelled the Greek Cypriot 316th infantry battalion from Hill 1024 () in the western Pentedaktylos mountains, and pushed them southwards into the Lapithou-Karavas corridor. During the night, B Company of 31MK Commando assaulted Hill 1024 and retook it from the Turks. At the village of Karavas, a Turkish M47 tank was hit and destroyed by a 9M69 Snapper anti-tank missile.. until then turks had losth more than 1500 men and 35 aeroplanes.

Saying Turkish Cypriots were not endangered shows a total lack of understanding and knowledge of the situation in Cyprus at the time.Many innocent women,children and men were brutally murdered by EOKA and later EOKA B who surrounded small towns and murdered and raped for months on end while the world stood by and did nothing.Finally after decades of these attrocities Turkey said enough talking and acted to stop the slaughter.

@jjacer1 If it was a peace operation, the Turkish army should have retreated after the UN 1974 decisions. So, please accept the facts history has shown us : Civillian slaughtering took place in Cyprus indeed, but not as much as some Turkish people insist. The invasion (as lots of documents verify) was preplanned since 1962 or so.

By the way, ask the Turkish-Cypriots how the feel today : I have the answer : Provoked by the huge amount of settlers and angry with the way their "government" acts. "Goverment" because not even your closest diplomatic friends don't recognise the "Republic of Northern Cyprus". Funny, ah?

@JohnSkywalker First of all,they are not my close diplomatic friends-I live in Australia,but at the end of the day it was not the Turks who wanted 'enosis' but the Greeks,the Turkish people were happy to live as they always had in harmony,they didn't start surrounding villages and committing atrocities,stopping red cross medicines and food etc etc for decades before Turkey intervened,it was the Greeks who did all of this.
The Greek seperatists started it and bare the responsibility as such.

The invasion was preplanned and the dictatorship in Greece was there to help the invasion. It was planned to force Markarios leave. After that Turkey would be able to invade easily. In fact, fast-forward to present day & compare & contrast the economic situations between Turkey & Greece (Turkey sent to Athens 300 financial experts, businessmen, etc., with offers to help Greece out via investment opportunities, loans, etc. ). With that said, Cyprus will once again be reunited and the turkish Cypriots will be happy about it too because most of them hate the mainland turks..................not all, but most.

Remember the world famous photograph of the 1964 murders of an entire Turkish family (the children were machine-gunned in the bathtub and their mother raped and mutilated in the bedroom by Greek-Cypriots, while the husband (a doctor) was called away to a home to help a sick patient)! There are so many more examples!

@Greek2uso My maternal grandfather & his daughter were the only survivors of their family in Izmir in 1922, as they witnessed (& lived from one burnt out structure to another, living off any scraps of food they could find for 5 days) the genocides committed by the Greek soldiers & their Armenian henchmen, slaughtering Turks & Jews (his family, relatives, friends & neighbors) & then setting fire to the Moslem quarter of the city(then shamelessly blaming Ataturk)! There were many USN witnesses!

My maternal grandfather was one of the few survivors of the genocides committed by the Armenians & the Greeks in Izmir in 1922 against the Turks & Jews! He documented everything (now in the Turkish archives). He & his daughter watched for 5 days as the Greeks & their Armenian henchmen massacred Turks & Jews in their quarter of the city, then set fire to it! They had to go from one burnt house to another.

@kikysspliff The only solution is to keep the 2 x nationalties apart. Since 1974, the Greek and Turkish Cypriots have not killed each other, how beautiful is that and better still, each of us no longer live in fear of each other. And that is how it should be. Besides, we all know that the GC that have southern part of Cyprus is the best part with its mountains and beautiful cities like Phaphos , Larnica and Limassol

Dont you dare come on here brave and put the turks as victims. I have visited my old grandparents house in north cyprus and still to this day the turkish cypriot family that were neighbours of the family still live at the house. the turkish cypriots got on fine with the greek cypriots its the doing of the mongrols that this happened. And due to this and their ignorance of not letting our country unify is the ONLY reason why they will NEVER join the EU

@Greek2uso Put down the drugs & listen. ENOSIS would have been a death sentence for the Turkish-Cypriots, & you know it! All through the 1950's the Turks were treated as 2nd class citizens! My oldest sister (then 14) went to visit her girl friend & her family in Famagusta, Cyprus in 1965. While staying at their home, the parents went out for the evening. My sister & her friend were playing records. Then the Greeks broke in, raped & mutilated them both! My sister died that night! Cont.

@Greek2uso Cont...Her friend was rushed to the hospital. She was able to describe what happened & the greeks who attacked them. She too died from her injuries the next morning. The Greek police, of course, did nothing (after all, they were Turks so they weren't human beings!)! The Greeks knew who the attackers were! There were no arrests. How many thousands of innocent Turks disappeared and decades later found in shallow graves! So how dare you come to me & cry about your grandparents house!
