Easterners know who they are. BC is so new, changing all the time. It will be a frontier for another 100 years. My folk are maritimers but I've lived nearly my whole life in BC. Anyway, Cape Breton is made up of mostly Irish, Mi'kmaq and English. There are a few Acadian settlements such as Cheticamp. The Mainland is mostly English, Irish and Acadian.

i lived on cape breton its buitiful and if you do good in cape bretonits a nice life .
the reason cape breton isnt doing the best and people are on well fair is becasue in 1999 the goverment shut donw the cole mine leaving hundreds un eploid so for the poeple that think cape breton sucks well u can just be thay way but the majority of people like it.

great stay in BC. who really gives a foc what you do. have fun in your 30 mile long suberb with no sense of community. great place to raise a family. and to dis the miners cause a few people abused punch cards is ridiculous.

Yea it is a great place to raise kids to be honest, if it wasn't true you wouldn't see people lining up to come back here. And as a former Caper I ask you, What are you doing to make your home town a better place? Pretty easy to sit back in B.C. and take pot shots. Our economy has gone to shit, fair play to that, but you can blame that on government mismanagement. Not once could anyone ever doubt the work ethic of our people as for years we carried the economy of Nova Scotia.

your steel mills were government subsidized, lots of stories of how some punched the card and went fishing. and the coal mines had a terrible history of labour abuse read (the company store ) im glad i left when i did i didnt suffer with starvation wages and no work. as for making a comeback i didnt see it when i was there last it was worse. downtown glacebay looked like a ghosttown boarded up shops etc.

The Cape is bueatiful,but to find work here is hard,so many people move out west.
I'm from GlaceBay myself,i've been out everywhere in the Cape,Mary ann falls,the highlands,Brass-dor lakes.Glacebay is bueatiful its self with all the cliffs and beachs,if you take the time to look around CapeBreton you'd see the true bueaty and untouched landscape of Canada.

moist182, are u in a padded cell there? im irish and have been living here in canada since november, first in toronto and for the last 3 months in halifax. i finally got to go to cape breton this weekend and it is the most beatiful and amazing place ive ever been to, and ive travelled a lot. i think its the worlds best kept secret which is probably a good thing as it isnt invaded by legions of tourists clicking away on thier cameras. im def gonna try and get back there for the celtic colors

I went to experiance the scenery and take it all in and you cant take away from the fact that the scenery is breathtaking and just because there is a lot of unemployment doesnt mean its a shithole as u say. i think uve just got bad memories of growing up there that are blinding u from how nice Cape Breton looks.
