No, I have read that several times around The Net but it is incorrect. The best biography of Nejla Ates is on the "Glamour Girls of the Silver Screen" site, which says that she died in a hospital in Istanbul in early April 2005, aged 73.

Impressive, this gal has something quite authentic as a belly dancers. Her belly has a tiny bit of fat around it to make the belly roll movements which, from my experience is hard to do. She's one of the best I've seen during the restricted times of the 40-60's. From Russia/w love the belly dancing scene was impressive like this one.

The one in From Fussia with Love I do not like that much. (the one in the gypsy party, before the girls start a fight)
It looks very unprofessional. Like a pretty girl in the costume, moving her hips as what she believes is bellydance.

Ms. Ates was an authentic Oriental dancer from Turkey. Unfortunately, Hollywood and clubs were simply not the best venues for her to shine in.
