@mokacode The purpose of the conference was not to plan the Holocaust. That's the coolest thing about this film. Slowly but surely the viewer, along with the non-SS/Gestapo members there realize that the true purpose of the meeting is to make sure that those German officials and bureucrats that aren't 100% on board with wholesale massacre are brought to heel and made to understand that if they do not go along with it, their careers and lives are in jeopardy.
Damn good film, Brannaugh is wonderful as ever. He conveys real menace in two scenes. Truly horrible are the conversations of the table of nazis, so indescriminate and cruel.

this movie follows the minutes as Eichmann recorded them..because Eichmann sent copies to the minutes to the 40 or so men at this meeting and told them to destory the minutes after reading them...but one of the men at the meeting ...failed to destroy his copy...
Great film folks. It's based on the meeting minutes found after the war. All nazi attendees were supposed to burn them, but one didn't, and this movie is based on his copy of the meeting minutes.
While the film was intense and well acted, especially Branagh, they had some facts off. Hydrich didn't drink or smoke as he is shown in this movie and Eichman is shown being more agressive then he probably was - in his trial the prosecuiter aimed at his apparent meekness. Of course the whole conference is only known from one document and I wonder if other groups along with the Jews were discussed as well because the Nazis murdered other groups as well along with the Jews.

This movie was the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard that Branagh was going to play Henning von Tresckow (head of the German Military Resistance) in Valkyrie. I found that somewhat ironic, although I couldn't think of a better man for either role (apart from the fact that his physical resemblance of Heidrich wasn't that great) - What a magnificent actor!

Great film folks. It's based on the meeting minutes found after the war. All nazi attendees were supposed to burn them, but one didn't, and this movie is based on his copy of the meeting minutes.

While the film was intense and well acted, especially Branagh, they had some facts off. Hydrich didn't drink or smoke as he is shown in this movie and Eichman is shown being more agressive then he probably was - in his trial the prosecuiter aimed at his apparent meekness. Of course the whole conference is only known from one document and I wonder if other groups along with the Jews were discussed as well because the Nazis murdered other groups as well along with the Jews.

No he was not right in any shape, way or form. It was pure evil what they did and nobody regardless of their race, color, religion etc deserves to suffer in the horrific way that the Nazis inflicted on their victims. There is absolutely no guarantee that even with just one race in the world that there would be everlasting peace, there will always be someone out there wanting a war for one reason or another. They betrayed humanity, and I hope they are all suffering in hell for it.

I respect your view but let's look at this from the perspective of the perpetrators. The Nazis believed that the Jews were responsible (namely thru the activities of the Rothschilds) for most/all the wars in Europe since 1840 or so, for reasons of profiteering and 'strategic' advancements. This, together with centuries of growing anti-semitism throughout Erurope is the real cause of what happened and why it happened.

This movie was the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard that Branagh was going to play Henning von Tresckow (head of the German Military Resistance) in Valkyrie. I found that somewhat ironic, although I couldn't think of a better man for either role (apart from the fact that his physical resemblance of Heidrich wasn't that great) - What a magnificent actor!

When you first see that this film is just a bunch of guys sitting around talking, you can't fathom how it manages to absolutely freeze you to the marrow. But it does. It's brilliant. Branagh is horrifying here, a complete monster.

This movie is one of few stealing my heart fully, I think it mostly couse of Kenneth. He dress good as Heydrich, the same with Stanley as Eichmann. Some might scream no now but here is the thing, you can't get the same back again. Thanks for that.

It's an oversimplification to say 'the victors write the history'. WWII is a complicated matter and evils occured on both sides. However it strikes me that those who deny the occurence of the holocaust really ought to know damn well that they offend those who believe in it for this reason: it tends to be assumed that they align themselves with those who would have had a holocaust if they could have.

My uncle served in the 104th InfantryDivision during World War II. His unit passed through Dachau the day after it was liberated. He took some pictures at the time. A pack of lies? Not a chance! Try talking to some of the GIs who were there!

Kenneth Branagh does a great performance in this film. Although I like to see him also in other characters. Because I have the feeling that he is becoming one of the biggest English speaking Nazi-villains in filmhistory. In Swing Kids he is a member of the GESTAPO. In Conspiracy he plays Heydrich and in Valkerie he plays a wehrmachtgeneral. Well maybe he just enjoyes to wair German uniforms. I could not blaim him.

Heydrich is of course a very evil figure, but the "wehrmachtgeneral" is Tresckow, a key member in the resistance movement who advocated killing HItler since 1938.
And he actively tried in 1943 with a bomb -btw did you see Valkyrie? It accurately portrayed the actual events.

Holocaust, I bleive, is a Hebrew word meaning "to burn until completely gone". It wasn't applied to the mass murder of the Jews and other ethnic minorities by the Nazis during World War Two until a while after the events were discovered by the Allied forces.
And if you're actually wondering what the Holocaust was, look in pretty much any history book and you should find some mention.

well there is the theory that the jews were in charge of the banking and financial sectors in Europe and also that they were part of the reason Germany lost the war and was subjected to the treaty of versailes which hitler took very personally .. against germany and its pride. Anti-Semitism in Europe has a long and sordid history. In the Middle Ages the Church condemned moneylending with interest as a form of greed and extortion, but Jews did not--thus the hook-nosed, miserly Jewish banker stereotype grew up in the Renaissance. they had many enemies before that, but ever since the medieval & Renaissance times persecution in Europe has been great.
