Well, it wasn't really mom and dad. It was just instilled in me. I've done it since I can remember. I think my grandparents told me once and it just stuck. Now the military helps with that one. But thanks man. :P
I miss the sound of the parking brake. Were on spring break here so I haven't got to hear that good old air sound in a few days. I'm planning on paying 687 (my bus number) a visit during the break to clean it up though. Pretty much all the roads are clean from the salt from the roads from winter so she's all dirty so she needs a good wash lol. Can't leave a brand new bus filthy especially when the warm weathers coming shes gotta look her best lol.
@9sb19 we had nice weather last week so i cleaned her all up lol. i brought 3 cans of armorall tire spray to get the tires shining again lol. of course now shes all dirty again from all the pollen so im just gonna let the weekends ran wash her off lol. im thinking about seein if i can park her at home over the summer break because i never get to get out to the bus yard to run my bus over the summer so i wanna have her home so i can start her and drive her a little over the summer break.
You should park it at home. That way no one can mess with it and you can see it everyday, lol. I'd love to have my bus in my yard everyday, lol. But I can't. Even thought I should be getting one soon.
Sounds nice! I would wash my bus weekly, if I could. I love my IC CE and he deserves to be clean.
@9sb19 yea im going to ask like the last week of the eyar to see if i can. i wanted to watch my bus this week but i cant casue its raining here all week. lol today was my first day that my bus broke down. some how it was leaking anti-freeze. never woulda expected a new bus to be leaking anti freeze lol.
@9sb19 yea i hate breaking down then ya gotta wait for the spare bus to come out and its annoying when the garage is 30minutes away. im asking next week about keeping the bus home with me during the summer cause breaks in 3 weeks.
Man, breaking down is the fun part. Then the delays are even better when you are waiting on them to come up in ol' Bessie who just keeps on going. We're about the same distance away and then my shop will take their time on getting out to us.
@9sb19 haha it depends on the day. if its a hot day i hate it same if its cold lol. if its a cool day im fine with just sitting there listening to music and talking to people. lol since i drive highschool theres some kids that arent to much younger then me. im 26 some kids are like 18-20 so i can talk with them about stuff that goes on cause we can relate to stuff lol. they call me the chill driver at the garage cause im young and talk to kids and listen to good music on the bus lol
I love it when it's cold. For some reason when the buses are cold and the engine sounds as if it has to chisel the ice off, I love it. Lucky you with a radio. The engine is enough music to my ears, though. I'm like that a lot with our drivers; and I'd be like that if I were a driver, too. That sounds like who I'd be like, lol. Except I am tough on bus rules about certain things.. communicating and radio, food too.. we're cool on.
I live in Gulfport,Mississippi. Our buses are similar except they are a bit more powerful and have a whiny tune when they stop or when they go. They are under contract of First Student. we have about 52 of them.
Cool. Where is that located, close to the beaches? I am not so fond of First Student, how do you like them? Here they are very pathetic. Mine is the DT466, not too whiny, but very powerful.
Last Christmas Break, 2009 break, a route came open because a driver was busted. So she up and took it and left us. Nothing bad happened to Ms. Shirley.
I really loved Ms. Shirley. I miss her a lot. She was great to the bus, given Mr. Allen doesn't floor it as much. She knew how to operate it. I loved her. I miss her terribly.
In the southwest part of TN in a county called Haywood. Thanks, I really like and appreciate them, I just wished my shop would take better care of them.
This is with my old driver. She used to take her bus to her beauty salon that she owned and ran. Since she worked there and lived about 1/2 a mile from it, she left the bus there. But she put in the bus lot during the summer.
Now my new driver keeps it in the lot, which is nice but then isn't at the same time.
You said that you ride a newer IC CE, too. Basically if you cut on your ambers, or flip the master, then the alarm system is activated. When you cut the bus off, everything must be off and the door closed. You cut the key back to ACC and then go lift the rear door. Go back to the front and cut it off, then you may go. If you don't do any of that, or not right, then the alarm goes off. It's just there to make the driver walk the bus to look for kids who might be alseep.
No problem dude. But did I clarify it good enough or not? You Tube made the comments very short on here, so I had to be very quick on it and to the point.
Just hit me up with any more questions, man. I am here for ya.
Yeah, it goes off if you cut on your master, or the ambers. If you cut off the bus and get off after using your warning lights, then it's active and after 20 seconds, the alarm goes off. To disable it, you cut the kay back to ACC and go open the rear door and then cut the kay back to Off. It's just there to have the driver walk the bus to check for sleeping kids or if anything is wrong.
i remeber the first time we got on the bus and me and my gradmother didn't know we had those alarms and it went off we both got scared and ran off the bus.
i hate those Child Left Behind alarms. my grademother drive buses and we use to have those on some ic re buses but now we got ic ce, any way we had those alarms, but they was for nothing because you still have to shut the bus alarm off before it go's off. so whats he point if you have to walk to the back and open the back door. so you would see when your walking to the back if you have kids left.
Yeah, that's what the alarm's purpose is for. To check for sleeping kids. I like them, myself. Though it is nice just to shut the bus off and leave, it is saftey first.
You are confusing me when you say it's for nothing, then you state what it's for. Can you elaborate yourself?
Yeah. IC's is the No Child Left Behind alarm system. The button would be the Child Checkmate system. So yeah, you'd have to disable both systems so the alarm won't go off.

@9sb19 Yes actually our school is right next to the beach. Just 2 miles from Walmart and 1 from the beach. =)

@9sb19 Nah, they look BRAND NEW every day.

That's good. Ours are really dusty and I was wondering because I've been told some of that sand and salt water air can affect the body

how does the alarm go off when theres a child on the bus? or does the alarm go on when you shut off the bus to remind you to check?
