The social commentary of this song is so powerful. Julie could be me, you, your neighbour or anyone. I don't agree with all that The Levellers have to say. I do however, applaud the way they engage one's mind to think and discuss the morality of our culture. They really do remind one to be an individual and stand up and be counted. I think you are all missing the point of this song, it's not about Julie or Heroin, it's about society, written at a time when the country was just coming out of the arse end of 11 years of Thatcherite rule, all major industries had been plundered and privatised, unemployment at it's highest ever, what hope for those who tried to live a normal life, beaten back at every turn by the social system, it speaks of the lows people are reduced to when faced with insurmountable odds, but also of hope!
