  • @wowdubbers This is a Bosc/Savannah Monitor and they're brown, not green.

  • finally someone duznt feed them cute little gerballs!

  • i just got a baby savana yesterday and he ate the first day my nile went like 2 weeks with out eating

  • u cheap bastard what type of tank is that!!?

  • @LeOLADvrUUMMMM Feeding tank probably..

  • Mine is about this size and Doesn't eat medium/large size crickets, the previous owner/breeder told me that he eats cricket, Today I will try smaller crickets, but IDK he isn't that skinny and I was wondering if they feed better with worms vs crickets. Mine is the same as yours.

  • ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH SO UGLY --".

  • Those dont look big enough to be superworms.

  • those are super worms

  • hand feed you monitor to cancle out it's need to fight for its food so it wont be agressivce i have an adult savannah and black throat and i hand feed them

  • yep there deff meal worms superworms are alot bigger and fat!

  • those are not mean worms, theyre super worms. Read and Learn

  • @rrredzzz Nice try... I bought them in a can from petland... They said Meal Worms, Not Mean Worms or super worms

  • I too just got a small hatching ... and at first it was sleeping a lot and very sluggish but then a week later he is exploring his home and eating like a monster. Crickets are his preference plus I think with the tendancy they have to become obese the exercise of chasing crickets is good for them lol... they are awesome. And yes don't handle them too much right away. There whole.world just changed remember that.

  • i cant get my 2 babies that i got to eat. i tried mealworms, crickets, and eggs. nothing...=( any tips on getting them to eat? thnx

  • @TurtlesHermitCrabs They might be too stressed out, Dont handle them too much and make sure they have a hiding place

  • My baby wouldn't eat meal worms when we got em. We'll see this weekend if he does now.

  • My wont eat mealworms but he loves fish !

  • nice to see a vid of an insect eating monitor actually eating insects.

And they will use deep substrate if the substrate is warm enough. Usually it needs a heat pad under the habitat.

  • Ronchy.

  • are the meal worms frozen ?

  • @penguins571 Nope, Dead in a can lol it was all the pet store had left at the time

  • @BigDiesel85 i just got my baby savannah and it seems to be sleeping all the time at first i thought it wasnt' warm enough but i don't know. do all hatchlings do this?

  • @brutalboas Not sure... how is it acting now?

  • @penguins571 Nope, Right out of a can from petland

  • @penguins571 Nope, they came in a can from petland

  • How did you get the mealworms to be green like that?

  • @Honeebuket Skillz... lol no, its just the poor video quality and/or lighting making that effect

  • what a cute baby, just like mine :) Ever since I have seen your vid a few months ago I also use a separate tank to feed him so it's easier for him to hunt the crickets :)

  • aww look at it trying to kill it liek a older moniter would do to a rat! soo cutee

  • and then it gets 4 feet long...

  • buying one tomoro !!!

  • im pretty sure those are canned super worms

  • Cute. :)

  • Dwah, they're so cute when they're small.

  • isnt that a nile monitor

  • dude you need deep moist substrate for him to burrow in and dig in.

  • @dickpepperfield101 Duhh!!! Ever thought i just used that tub to feed him in and take this video?

  • @dickpepperfield101 oh hah sorry dude and I wasnt bein a dick about it

  • yup, most people take their snake/lizard outa their tank/cage wutever you like using to a different place to feed them. i use a 10 gallon tank with only artificial turf stuff you can get at almost any petstore so my monitor dosnt accidently eat some substrate which can lead to an impaction and death to your monitor. i got a baby sav, just a lil bigger than the one in the video an a 6 foot redtail boa whos about half done growing.. startn to breed mice to get ready for my garbage disposal(the sav)

  • @dickpepperfield101 dont realy worry about the deep substraite, they burrow but not much, i had at one point 1.5 feet ( 18inches ) of special burrowing soil for reptiles and all he did was throw dirt everywere and dig out under his hide to make more room.

  • Its so cute :)) it loooks like a baby dino eating :))

  • people wont be saying oh look how cute it is when you make another of it eating rabbits

  • are the mealworms dead

  • is he a special color morph cuz hes green

  • @sk8rcamboy1 He isnt green lol, Its the poor lighting making him look green

  • What is his actual color?

He looks kinda greenish in this vid.

  • Bathe him in a luke warm tub for a while not too high but enough for him to swim and exercise and it's good for shed hope it works

  • i just got a baby sav about 5 days ago hes about the same size as this one mayb a lil smaller but since i got him he didnt eat n e thingg he just lays around what can i do 2 get him 2 eatt?

  • oh man 50 to 70? go to a reptile show you can get one cheap ...i actually got a pair for 15$ at the hamburg reptile show in pa

  • @andrewchristman their actually selling them by me now for $30 which isnt too bad,

  • got mine for 55

  • got mine for 55, if you can DEFFINETLY go to a local breeder.... i got mine from petco (which is usually a really bad choice) but i got a really nice an healthy monitor from them. just gotta make sure you check for signs of a sick or fragile monitor because most have parasites an worms or sumthn they got. 98% are wild caught

  • petland is in baton rouge right?

  • Wow mine is like 4 inches longer than that and I cant get him to eat anything not moving WEIRD!

  • omg that is so adorable :)

  • well hes def gonna be tame

  • Where did you buy him

  • @Gorrilla1421 Petland

  • so cute, just look at those back legs.

  • lol if you where to post video of it eating a small mamal everyone would be cussing at you saying it's wrong.

  • HES SOO CUTE :3

  • aww i have a savanna monitor i got that big now he is 3 ft long

  • thats so cool that he's green !!!!!!1

  • so small!!! Lol,

  • Hi i have a baby svannah monitor lizard [maybe about a foot long] and ive had hime for about a week. Could someone give m4e some tips he wont eat and im a little worried.

  • Try pinkie mice, they go crazy for them, or locusts. When was the last time he was fed, keep in mind they need to get used to their surroundings so its not unusual for them to miss a feeding for a week or two after being brough home.

  • how many times a week do they need to be fed i heard daily and also 3 times a week, then once a week with adults?

  • @bheumann4593 hatchlings, mealworms daily, juvies once they are big enough, pinkie mice and locusts and occaisional mealworms, adults, once or twice a week depending on prey size.

  • Hmm, try using waxworms-less exoskeleton to fight with in the stomach. Cute little guy though, glad you got him!

  • Comment removed

  • where did you get him because I really want one.

  • i got mine at a reptile show in the manatee center for 15 dollars. i really recommend getting the more active ones because they are fun to hold seriously!

  • I am going to get one I just have not found a store that has them yet. I might have to go to a reptile expo. I live in New York and the closest ones are mad far from here.

  • Getting a more active one is getting one with the possibility of being more fierce in later life, unless you properly handle and learn to tame it as much as possible.

I intend to buy either an Argentine or a Nile Monitor; but I'll tell you, 15 dollars is pretty good. Their much more than that here in the UK, even as babies. The Nile Monitor I want is a few hundred pounds, and its only a juvenile.

  • Do they have massive poops?

  • U can get one anywere!!!

  • That worms were too stiff and big for that baby....don't you think so?

  • how much did he cost

  • they range from $50-70 usually

  • where did you get him?

  • around here they are 30 to 40 depending where you shop and I saw some for 50$

  • 0:56 and a half was a fail!

  • cute lizard! :) what do you feed monitors once they get big???

  • mice/rats

  • mice, rats, ,meet, groundturky

  • My savannah monitor is about 3 feet long, I feed him half grown rats or adult mice. As a treat he gets two hard boiled eggs"(cut in half), or some prawns/shrimp. He also likes as a treat canned tuna. I gave him a baby chick(2 days old) the other day(live), and he loved it, I live on a farm btw. Monitors should have a varied diet when they are older, don't forget calcium supplement once in a while.

  • you can feed monitors hard boiled eggs? WOW! thats cool! thanks for all the information! my monitor is getting older now so, its good to know! thx again!

  • they have to eat mice and rats when they get bigger.

  • my sav kilo wont eat meal worms.. he jus looks at them then walks away. ithink he enjoys the chase. he's a baby too n i feed him as much as he'll eat, which is alot but ill adjust his diet as he grows..

  • your feeding him alot... i just got mine yesterday and i have feed im 7 crickets and i was told that was alot...

  • You should feed juveniles as much as they will eat in 15 mins. If you feed them every day, in 2 years you will most likely end up with an obese, 2.5ft long monitor. That is, if he doesn't die from over feeding first. 3-4 times a week is plenty. Make sure to feed the food!

If your fist sav dies, please do not go out and get another one. 99% of these animals are snatched from the wild. Death is common with juvies because they could have internal parasites and diseases you won't know about.

  • Aww what a cute lizzerd

  • beautiful little guy :)

  • Those look like superworms

  • hey how many crickets did you feed him a day and did you feed him every day?

  • yeah, i have the same question.

  • i just bought baby, but she doesnt like freeze dried food...she likes to chase her food ^.^

  • OMG so cute! lol look at him just lounging w/ his back legs limp

  • are those freeze dried meal worms

  • those meal worm r for bird ther the dead dry 1

  • what did you feed him b4 he was actually killing crickets and meal worms, cuz i was told by a specialist that the killer instinct doesnt kick in till a little later, and i was told to feed him beef flavored cat food. and he doesnt want that eather

  • whats up, nice savannah, i just got mine and i htink he is smaller than the one you have but mine isnt eating or drinking but ive only had him for two days so any suggestions?, thanks, nice vid and savannah monitor,

  • my sav wont eat mealworms but he will eat pinkies no problem

  • I like how his bag legs are just flat.

  • he is so cute

  • that things to cute!

  • thats so wrong.. u should feed a baby sav everyday.. maybe not as much as u are feeding it but u should feed it everyday

  • With a baby you can let it eat as much as it likes.

  • Aww its so cute, mine is not as attractive but I wouldn't trade him 4 the world! Sav's are the best!

  • y is every this green???

  • my (1\2) pounder was once this size(when i got him)

my 7 pounder was an inch bigger(we got them at the same time, one grew fast the other grew very slowly...

  • Which one lol!! decisions decisions! lol BEAUTIFUL baby monitor!!!

  • Dude the colors on that Savannah are BEAUTIFUL!!! Watch what you feed cause if you keep him scar free and no marks he be a good specimen man!!

  • I bought one just like that its one months old

  • the moniter is soo cute

  • nice but i dont think those are meal worms i think they are super worms

  • maybe i dunno, I would have to look at the can the next time i go to the pet store to know for sure

  • Sexy

  • What a little cutieeee! <3

Seems to like his meal worms. =]

  • how many do you feed him, is it every day

  • NEVER FEED A SHV> EVERY DAY

  • are u trying to say that i shouldnt feed my monitor every day?

  • YES!!!!!11

  • why do u say that?

  • since thay dont digest food as qick as we do feeding them every day can make there somech burst it happend to my friends svh.

  • what was he feeding it?

  • feed him every OTHER day say feed him monday and dont feed wim again till wed at teh same time oyu did monday for a adult for babys if should be every other day and LITTLE snakc if they want it on tue

  • looks like hes thinking about which worm is the most tasty one

  • Lol yea, Buffet anyone

  • that is an adorable baby you have. just be carefull, i have heard that mealworms and eat through the monitors stomach if not fully killed so i have been told to cut or smash their heads before fedding them. they should still move so the lizard shouldmnt mind. Good Luck with him

  • those were dead, They came in a can, I see what your saying thu, I havnt fed him meal worm in awhile, Ive been feeding him pinkies and crickets

  • that is a myth. if the worm wasn't killed when the monitor bit it it will be killed by the digestive stomach acids.

  • kdragon, that is what my herp dr. said too.

  • how big is he now??

  • i see... i understand where you are coming from becuz anything smaller than a cat probobly wont resoond to its name anyways but sweet savannah man!

  • Thanks Dude

  • when was this vid taken?

  • suse the way he shakes his head and his attitude towards eating is very agressive...I predict hes going to be a very good hunter and quite formidible killer...I am getting my second savannah and my first bearded dragon on my birthday in 6 months...whats his/her name?

  • I have 2 baby savs. I havent named any of my reptiles, I think its kinda pointless to name them if they dont know what there name is and wont respond to it

  • I fed mine a can of soft catfood once a month. Boy did that sure help him grow.

  • I bet, Im sure it had a ton of protein

  • what do you need heat wise to take care of a baby savannah monitor

  • would be cool fi it was a crock monitor cuz it looks liek one and those worth about 800

  • Ive seen a full grown croc monitor and they get too big, A pet store i know of by me had one for about six months

  • cute

  • how long is he? my baby savannah monitor is of 35 cm

  • About 5 inches = 12.7 centimeters

  • hey man i really want to get one of theese and i bought a 40 gallon how long should that be good for? and what size of a tank would a full grown need?

    thanx

    peaceeeeeeeee

  • This is my first time owning one so im not sure how fast they grow, But im pretty sure a 40 gallon will do u good for at least 6 months, They get really big so a full grown one is going to need a custom built cage

  • Ok,

I have 4 savs. What u should do is get vitamens (powder) put the meal-worms in a bag, and shake. I do that my savannahs love it! And btw, u need a uv bulb..

  • thanks for the info dude

  • No problem at all. Just trust me, it keeps them healthy and increases growth. Cute sav too!

  • I bought a uv light today, I hope the 10.0 uvb bulb is not too much, And i got some of that reptile vitamin dust to put on his and my bearded dragons food

  • good, i use a 5.0 bulb, its better. u have a msn, aim??

  • aim, BigAndrew85P

  • add mine, sixpop9drop

  • man mine is 5 and a half inches and just took down 10 medium crickets raise your temps!! and maybe try some uvb?

  • i keep it about 90 during the day but i havent got the u.v. bulb yet

  • Hey how often does yours eat? because mine hasn´t been eating for 8 days and he sleeps alot.
