Very nice! Though, you skipped a part when doing 1:38 to 1:45. You were supposed to do that part twice, but still, it is amazing playing skills you have:)
I like the arrangement--flashy enough to keep my attention but still substantive enough musically to not seem purely empty. Volodos might have perpetrated it but it's written very much in Horowitz's style. Had Volodya penned it himself, he likely would have been crucified much as he was for his arrangement of "Pictures." Hearing this transcription in the context of "had Horowitz dared" is fine my me. Thank you, Yuja Wang.
Whatever you might say about this music, it can be tremendously fun to watch someone turn the piano upside-down like this with such a combination of panache and nonchalance and with no apparent warning (even the announcer apparently had no idea what was going on). One of the great" surprise" videos, to be sure. If anyone has the attitude and technique to pull off something like this, it's definitely Wang.
Voldo variation looked fun when she was younger. But now she look sad playing it. When she play Chopin Op. 64 her face express pleasure and Petrushka seems really fun to play…
@javiertw89 "terrible"? It's fun! If you are trying to take this arrangement seriously you seriously need to loosen up.
The arrangement actually makes it playable in concert for grown good pianists. also, people actually might be interesting in listening even if they don't like it. they'll listen for the sake of virtuosity.
@OwlyEagles Of course. What I was trying to state is that this video, together with Cziffra's arrangement of th Flight of The Bumblebee made me think "Oh, this woman is pure fingers and no soul".
@javiertw89 ah yes, it's the same old drivel from you jealous no-talent critics who just wish you could play even half as good. Every piano video has you wanna-be douchebags leaving your envy tainted opinions behind like the slimy trail of a slug.
@pyronaught I'm sorry for stating my opinion mr. mature, you should've read my comments more carefully before insulting me like that. I love Yuja Wang, I was just saying that people who listen to this might get the wrong idea that she's pure fingers and no soul, and that's not true.
The first time I listened to Richter, I thought the same about him because I heard something like this; two years later I found him to be my favorite pianist, when I listened him playing Schummann.
I am curious, when finally Yuja dares to play "real" Mozart. She has everything to do that. Technique, musicality and last not least her unaffected personality.
I believe this is the Arcadi Volodos arrangement, isn't it ?

Too bad that people fixate in this terrible arrangement that only serves to prove her virtuosity.
You can listen to her interpretations of Prokofiev or Stravinsky to learn that she is a very fine musician.
