  • ...Thumbs up if you heard this from The Glades :D

  • OMG THIS SONG! My grandparents have a grass field behind the condo. Between this field is a busy street and 3 condo buildings. On a summer day, If you went and laid face up in that field so you couldnt see the buildings or the street, and put some earphones in with the song playing, so you couldnt hear the cars passing by, that would be the most beautiful and relaxing thing IN THE WORLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jjjakira until a snake would decide to chew on your ass! but if you think that is something you would enjoy, go ahead man!

  • This is great, love Sam Cooke... check out this other version of Summertime by the Queen of Gospel music Mahalia Jackson, it is stunning..

  • This song could really use a blues guitar solo

  • Love this song. My three month old baby boy just fell asleep listening to this.

  • @TheMisstease Not a surprise: George Gershwin's inspiration may have come from having heard the Ukrainian lullaby, Oi Khodyt Son Kolo Vikon (A Dream Passes By The Windows) at a New York City performance by Oleksander Koshetz's Ukrainian National Chorus in 1929 (or 1926).

You can listen to this song here: youtu. be/kMG9K9YDGFA

  • This is my favorite version... I think this originally was in the play "Porgy and Bess" if I'm not mistaken... I do like sublimes version also..

  • i love this version!

the first version of this song was composed in 1935. it was not stolen from sublime. it has been covered by hundreds of artists.

  • Ok can someone help me. This song was performed at the end of the movie "Stuck on me"(2003). Can someone tell me, who performed that version!?

  • @Ip0pI According to IMDB, "Summertime"

    from opera "Porgy and Bess"

    Music by George Gershwin

    Lyrics by DuBose Heyward

    Performed by Billy Stewart

    Produced by Michael Andrews

  • Thanks! I'd forgotten about this song; brings back memories for sure.

  • DUDE WTF! HE STOLE THIS FROM SUBLIME!!!

  • @graffwriter101 Please tell me you are joking.

  • @AJMutschler haha yess, i tried to make it more obvious by putting it caps, both great songs though

  • @graffwriter101 Wow, really? Actually, the song was composed by George Gershwin in 1935 for the opera Porgy and Bess. The lyrics are by DuBose Heyward, the author of the novel Porgy on which the opera was based. The song has been claimed to be one the most covered songs in the history of recorded music, the first recorded version being from Billie Holiday in 1936, NOT from Sublime in 1996... I HATE when moronic people bring up Sublime when they hear this beautiful classic.

  • @maramcbride Haha i kidding....but you sure do know a lot about this song which is impressive, its a great song.

  • @graffwriter101 Naw Dude! He stole this from Fantasia Barrino, when she song this on American Idol !

  • i love this song had to sing it at skol as presentation and loved it!!!!

  • Bon....

  • Does anyone know who sang a song with these words? "Strawberry, fresh ripe strawberry . . . Love has a fresh strawberry taste?" I heard that song years ago and would give an arm to hear it again.

  • I really hate that they use this song to advertise some stupid show.

    Ugh.

Sam Cooke is spectacular as always.

The fact that Beyonce would even touch this song makes me stabby, like when Missy Elliot defiled Ann Peeble's "I can't stand the rain."

This is *not* "the song from Glades", and I feel sorry for anyone who thinks that.

  • @beautifulbookdork loving this song, but im gonna have to disagree. missy elliot killed i cant stand the rain, actually now that i think of it missy is pure genius.
