  • Hey Randy,

    Does Eppelsheim sponsor you?

  • @TheFirePyroShow

Eppelsheim does not sponsor me. I pay full price for his instruments.

  • Donna Lee never sounded so... smooth. :o)

  • Bravo! Quite a lot of dexterity you have with that hulk of a sax.

Adolf Sax would be proud of you. :))

  • Great Donna Lee

  • very well done.

  • what key is the sax in?

  • @TheViestaFox

    It's a B flat bass saxophone

  • @saxtek k, that's what i thought. the....contrabass is in Eb isn't it? that's why i assumed that. it would follow the pattern

  • Would you recommend standard bass sax? Or Eppelsheim Bass sax?

  • @ContrabassDrio2325 Eppelsheim

  • @saxtek

How long did it take for you to get used to the bass sax? You are extremely good

  • @saxtek

How long did take for you to get used to this bass sax? You are extremely good

  • @saxtek

Is that bass hard to blow. I've dabbled a little with the baritone but I'm prodominantly a tenor player. Will it be a big step from the tenor to the bass? Also how much does that bass cost? Reply if you can. Thanks! Awesome playing by the way!

  • @coltranesaxIV

Yes. Bass sax is a big jump. Even going from baritone to bass is a big jump. However, when you get your bass chops together, it is a big help for your tenor playing, so it's worth the effort. Breathing is the key.

  • @saxtek - Have you ever played a slide saxophone before?

  • @JSmanthe3rd

Yes. I have a Reiffel & Husted "Royal Slide Saxophone." It is very difficult to play.

  • @saxtek - Why is the slide saxophone considered to be in the saxophone family? I looked at multiple websites of the saxophone family, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

  • @JSmanthe3rd

The slide saxophone uses a soprano sax mouthpiece, and the bore is similar to a soprano sax on the key of C. When one note is played on a slide sax, it sounds almost exactly like a soprano sax.

  • @saxtek - What is the the difference between a subcontrabass saxophone and a contrabass saxophone?

  • @JSmanthe3rd

Contrabass sax is in Eb, one octave below the baritone sax. Subcontrabass sax is in Bb, one octave below the bass sax. This video shows a bass saxophone.

  • @saxtek - So, does that mean that the subcontrabass sax has a lower pitch than the contrabass?

  • @JSmanthe3rd

    Yes, that's correct.

  • wow i dont know how you can get such articulate sounds at such a low register, congrats mate :) well done

  • that was good!

  • bunu calmaya nefesmi yeter amk .d

  • i bet u need to be good at giving head to have the ombechure for that... xD jk i play alto and bari. i love saxophone. most beautiful sound ive ever heard. lol

  • ..Donna Lee @ bass sax ;)...I visited once Mr. Eppelsheim at his workshop in Munich, he is a really nice person and excellent craftsman..

  • Is it a difficult switch from bari to bass?

  • @tmkurk

Yes. It's a big jump to bass sax, and I'm a baritone player.

  • Bariton Saxophon is the Best instrument of the world ! ;D

  • not worthy not worthy not worthy :D

  • Jeez. You beat the crap outta James Carter!

  • Well done. You are one of the best bass sax players on youtube. Most people have absolutely no idea how to make it musical. You play it instead of it playing you. Good tone.

  • WOAH DUDE! a) that is the coolest thing ever b)teehee, i suppose you HAVEN'T had any flatulence related jokes yet! But heey, that's amazing, i'm actually very musical, but i have to cover it up at my place.... :( keep playing cos I can't....

  • Love your horn and musical feeling man!! :-)

  • Is there anyone who has a Bass sax that sounds good? This guy seems like a good player but the sound of that horn is yuuuuuuk !

  • @24262748 I like it. Think of how he would sound with Ron Carter in a duo concert. Of course you would need some other instruments to widen the tonal palette, but hey... it could happen.

  • how much does it weigh?

  • i play the bari. ive always wanted to play a bass

  • @masterslayersp

    18 pounds

  • @saxtek Easy enough, I have to carry 40 pounds of music, my sax, and school stuff every day. :P

  • VERY NICE, sax is one of my favorite instruments, its the one im learning next

  • Damn. How much would one cost?

  • Aside from playing, is it very difficult to hold?

  • @RedOmen02

It's heavy, but it's balanced. It has a 3 ring strap holder. I use a harness made from a bass drum carrier.

  • excellent.

  • i dont understand the sign..? lol

  • just this morning, i got to play my teachers buecher bass saxophone at lessons,

    A-M-A-Z-I-N-G-

  • @rf1308 It's spelled Buescher.

  • Is that an end pin sticking out at the bottom ( similar to that on a bass clarinet or Bass Viol)?

  • @McVouty

Yes, it's an adjustable peg that makes the saxophone easier to handle while sitting down.

  • awesome

  • damn...bet u sold ur house to get that sob....on a lighter note....the sob sounds good:)

  • haha awesome sound. love it!

  • Donna Lee ?

  • @FunkySkunk90

    Yep. Donna Lee

  • holy moly thats some pretty awesome bass you got there

  • @epikownage i started on bari a week later i played alto and tenor :)

  • bass sax is way more uncommon, i dont know a single bass sax player and i know at least 6 or 7 soprano players

  • @cory131521 my jazz band director playes bass sax, ican play it for spring recital if he finds music for bass sax. its about oneof the few times he pulls it out each year

  • haha. i play soprano as well, but i'm the only one in my area so...lol

  • i don't know whats more uncommon....contrasax players or soprano sax players lol

  • @wreakingmyvengeance definately the contrasax

  • soprano sax is VERY common

  • This is Donna Lee a great tune of charlie parker

  • U went from nothing.... Right to Bari? Whoa....

  • ya donna lee ftw!!!!!!!!!!!! i played that for my college audition

  • same fingerings except the low a key isnt on tenor up and some bari's

Also everyone starts on alto or tenor to start on bass is INSANE and you mouth has to different

  • i started on bari lol

  • there is a kid in my class who started on clarinet then stopped half way through 6 grade then started baritone this year in 8th wtf? he is not good trust me!

  • give this kid time i never played an instrument before and started playing bari in the middle of 8th grade...i'm still playing catch up though but i've been playing for about 10 months and i'm trying my hardest

  • me to then tenor now alto.. and i really wanna play bass

  • Not every starts on alto or tenor m8...I started on bari like Pokemon right below us there:)

  • really, did you school have bari's when did you start. Would you agree everyone in 5th grade starts on alto or tenor?

  • if u were talking to me i started EXTREMELY late everyone else in my grade started in like 4th grade...i started in 8th

  • Well that clears things up.

  • right above us there xDD

  • Great work Randy. Thanks a lot Leebm29

  • Don't care for the hard attack each time - almost a slap tongue.

  • there's a bigger one called the contrabass saxaphone.

  • someone once told me they heard donna lee on Baritone and they said it sounded nasty and unclean, but this guy made an even bigger sax sound cleaner than I imagined... lol

  • wat bout contra wat r those fingerings

  • Same fingerings as an alto sax, only 2 octaves lower

  • a bass sax is an 1 octave below the tener sax. your thinking of the contrabass sax

  • @aesmart4 You are correct. Sorry, my mistake

  • @aesmart4 so its higher then the bari sax? is it bigger or smaller than the bari? jw

  • @piplupmaster100 it's lower than bari sax, because it's an octave lower than tenor. it is bigger than bari.

  • i thot it was an octave below the tenor and 1 1/2 below the alto and the 1/2 was due 2 the pitches

  • Comment removed

  • this bass is in Bb

  • @saxtek Wrong. The bass sax is tuned one octave below the tenor sax. The contrabass sax however, is tuned 2 octaves below the alto sax.

  • How much are youre saxes. because i really hope that one day i will own a contrabass.

  • The price depends on the exchange rate. This horn comes from Europe. Might as well wait until you are ready to buy to check prices

  • lmao at the sign. this is funny stuff man

  • For quite some time, I've wanted to take a picture under an overpass with a sign like the one in the video. this is the closest thing. Thanks.

  • thats some awsome licks you got there. Cool.

  • I'm only playing the melody. check out Charlie Parker's records to hear really awesome licks!

  • That's "Donna Lee"

  • That's really cool stuff.

  • That was great! i tell all my students to check this vid out. how do those eppelsheim instruments play??

  • I'm very happy with all my Eppelsheim instruments. I think he is the first to make big saxes that really work.

  • man i miss playing the sax so bad i used to play the bari but never got the opportunity to own my own so when i left school i had to stop playing because i only own a alto and one you play bari you never go back you just keep moving up

  • i have to agree with you on the bari part. I pla the bari right now and i dont think i ever want to go back just because the bari feels more fitting once you play it and get used to it. How long did u play it?

  • I played for almost 7 years

  • 15 grand? thats mucho expensive

  • HOLY HIPPO HURRICANE HOLLER Batman that was GREAT !!!!!!!!

  • $15,000 - $20,000 depending on the current value of the dollar

  • and with the economy the way it is now, this aint the best time to buy one...

  • ive played a bass sax it was sweet, i want one, like seriously, how much would one go for?

  • i wonder how much that cost...

  • Looks like the going rate is 20 lbs of canned food. Do I hear a higher bid?

  • oh yeah 25 lbs!!!!

  • 25 and a half!

  • Thanks! I need all the help I can get.

  • hahah ill give u 20lbs of canned food for that bass, or even a bari
