  • Who decided that purple pinstriped suits with bright green shirts was a good combination?

  • 4 JOKERS!

  • I met bari and bass this weekend at the 2012 men's midwinter international youth convention Tucson Arizona. It was such a privilege!!!! I was so exited :p

  • Neo Nazi barbers mmmk

  • They're obviously trying to copy Fred, but they almost do it better.

  • Wait, are these the Neo-Nazis?

  • They put on an amazing show. IT will keep you rolling in the isles for a full thirty minutes.

  • @3:25 MEEP! xD

  • Gets funnier every time!!

  • Amazing. Btw has anyone already noted they are dressed like Jack Nicholson as the Joker?

  • They're named after a Neo Nazi group..?

  • @tainscough Well, a Storm Front is a real thing. Its the worst part of a Storm. I suppose they didn't know that the name was taken by a bunch of assholes.

  • I love Jeff's face when the lead pulls out the last piece of paper. Like "Oh hey!"

  • It's simple: we kill the Old School.

  • God that was hilarious... Never thought I could marvel at incredible singing and laugh hysterically at the same time.

  • love the shirts that they are wearing..

  • 5:52 onwrds is where storm front really bring this home :D just brilliant

  • Spectacular!! Just checking 'like' is not adequate for these guys. Bring your wonderful selves to New York.

  • I love how Syd still calls Hilltop, MN his chapter. That's pretty awesome.

  • @Bluffdarqfox i was there too :D my school was perfoming at that thing too

  • These guys came to Brisbane today at my high school (St.Laurences) and they sounded superb and perfect, and they are hilarious!

  • First place for singing, and cheesy suits.

  • Just found out this morning that you're coming to Baltimore, MD on Nov. 12th......already have my tickets ordered!!! Looking forward to seeing you and maybe bust'n a tag with ya!!!!

  • THEY GOTTA START MAKING AN ALBUM! they are too funny XD

  • Darin Drown, on the far left, was my choir director in high school. Such a talented man!

  • @kaitlynxyzee That's awesome! He's my Barbershop Director's son-in-law, I believe! =D

  • @MusicNerd951 Sweet!!!! I love it.

  • So fun to watch and to listen to. This is better than 90% of what's on primetime TV.

  • the tenor just wants to sing for real!!

  • That was awesome

  • Great singing, great physical humor. This is awesome!

  • you guys need to calm down!?!? XD OOOHHH AAhhh OOOHH aaahh

  • Now have them sing while cutting somebody's hair

  • An absolute laugh riot! Reminds me of some of the stuff FRED used to do. The bit with the music stand up and down, along with mixing the two parts, great stuff!

  • @ drayktwo it's so funny you listed all the reasons why I did like them! Slapstick comedy and being able to sing thier parts perfectly was simply sublime. But as they say "music like wine, you don't know what's good but you do know what you like."

  • This is a just a personal opinion of mine to which I force on no other...but I don't find comedy quartets to be very entertaining. I watch barbershop for the chords, singing, and musicianship...and the slapstick 3 stooges type stuff to me is only a distraction to...it is for this reason that I'm not really a big fan of Stormfront. That's just my opinion though, and I understand why they won the competition and why people love them. To each their own, but they don't rank very high in my book.

  • is that richard nixon on baritone? amazing quartet. great performance.

  • I LOVE Comedy quartets and have been blessed to have had a chance to woodshed with some truly great ones, but Storm Front epitomizes the term Champion (comedy or otherwise)

Hey! I live in Denver now! I might have to see if they're up for a little "Coney Island Baby!

  • The whole music I stand gig is getting old hopefully it wont make return in the swan song set or else ill be disappointed for coming

  • I can't stop watching this (:

  • is that Hatten? the guy from BSU.

  • @dbor009 Yes

  • Comment removed

  • ok, fair enough. My first reaction was a bit over the top. It's just that in my opinion there a quartets that can do a lot 'better', but this 'better' is of course just my personal preference, and my opinion of what good barbershop singing is. I'm a big fan of supertight chords, and dislike the 'humor'.

  • Comment removed

  • @frankvdg They DID actually not do the best a barbershop quartet could do, but the humor did well for the judges. You do have a point, and I see why humor would ruin a barbershop quartet for you.

  • this just proves the BHS yearly competition is a joke. The fact that these guys won is absurd. The tuning is awful, the lead's voice is always shaking. Shame.

  • @frankvdg please remind us where examples of your singing are posted. also, comedy. do tell.

  • @EnergyPimps here we go again, criticism is not allowed unless you can do it better yourself, sounds like a great system

  • @frankvdg, This particular performance is from earlier in the contest. Old School was ahead of Storm Front in the QuarterFinals and SemiFinals. But Storm Front pulled ahead in the Finals, and they deserved to do so. Unless you were there, or have the DVD, you haven’t seen the Finals set. It’s not on YouTube (at least not legally), because, being a medley, obtaining copyright permission would be much more difficult than for a single song or two.

Their Finals set was STUNNING. AND hilarious.

  • Incredible! Perfect harmony, and incredible "Three Stooges" level comedy. Well done, and it took an incredible performance to beat Old School.

  • whoever said women carried more drama never saw the comments to this video...wow. omw.

In searching for various quartet and chorus performances I found Storm Front, then I even heard them at TOT's SRO last October...they are AMAZING live or on video!

  • This doesn't even hold a candle to the 2009 winners' performance. Night and day difference.

  • @Compooky121 Agreed.

  • @Compooky121 Uh, pretty much no one can hold a candle to Crossroads. Those guys set one of the highest scores of all time. Storm Front's pretty awesome, though.

  • @ Noobssuckass300- Storm Front quartet has been in existence longer than the group and had already had established themselves under the name Storm Front and sold cds before the hate group was established. The reason they are named Storm Front has absolutely nothing to do with that group. Changing their name just because some idiots wanted to make a racist group with the same name would have caused them a lot of money and effort. OBVIOUSLY they aren't a hate group. Did you even watch the video?

  • @swankypants2004 A little bit to add on to that: They're actually named Storm Front because they all enjoy and have been involved with meteorology in some way!

  • Still enjoy watching this, even a year later. As for the disagreement about their 'worthiness', I'll offer this. Barbershop will not grow, but will continue it's downward slide in membership if we don't open our doors to new ideas and growth opportunities. Our motto says...."Keep the whole world singing", not "Keep the cynics singing". Preserve the style, but enhance the experience! Stormfront, you accomplished both.

  • If anyone went to midwinter they would be in awe of how much Storm Front has improved in 7 months. For those of you that think they can't ring chords, then they are freaking crazy and ignorant.

  • i dont get it. i read the comments and see people upset. Cant we all just agree everyone is just freaking awesome?

  • i got to work with these 4 up close and personal. so fun.

  • isn't stormfront a racist website??

  • Well Mr. Brickkicker55, that was going to be my last post about this lack of talent group called Storm Front, but I think I will stick around just to piss you off.

  • @WARTWART1 I think it's disgraceful and sad that you are 68 years old and a past member and acting like this. I'm 22 years old and been a member for 8 years. The new days of barbershop are here and I'm more excited then ever.

  • I think they're wonderful. Not traditional, but a great quartet, and pretty good comedy!

  • @joeyratpack i hope ur including MaxQ in those 2

  • haha FRED ending!

  • nice shirts

  • freakin amazing! best ever!!!!!

  • @wartwart1 Not a member anymore? GOOD With an attitude like that you're not welcome anyway. Comedy has always been a part of barbershop. Take your sour attitude someplace else

  • @Brickkicker55 well said :)

  • Comment removed

  • the baritone is my choir teacher:D

  • @artisticallychic I'm jealous

  • LOVE the FRED tribute!

    TA-DA!

  • stormfront to me sounds like a website

  • 4 dislikes were apparently Old School.

  • M-Fing brilliant.

  • Loved it!

It's a shame that such classy entertainment is ignored nowadays. I suppose it's because they don't autotune barbershop!

  • Interesting that they all dressed up like the Joker.

  • @Snoofalah Are you kidding? The joker dresses up like these guys.

  • What a show! They are a great act!

  • That was amazing. The combination of comedy with quartet harmony was genius!

  • this is the greatest barbershop quartet video ever!!! thanks for sharing this!

  • So... they put the bluegrass student union legacy cd in the car...

    anyone else notice that?

  • I just recently watched the actual Music Man film adaptation of this song yesterday. The fact that the second part is supposed to be sung by a woman makes this make so much sense now!

  • @Maestro2500 So, not a barbershopper? That's ok. If you like to sing, check out your local SPEBSQSA chapter; drop by for an evening. If you can carry a tune and accept a little instruction, you're in for a world of fun. P.S. a note from the wiki piece on The Music Man: "Lida Rose" and "Will I Ever Tell You", sung first separately and then simultaneously, are examples of Broadway counterpoint – songs with separate lyrics and separate melodies that harmonize and are designed to be sung together.

  • @EnergyPimps Not a barbershopper, no. But a vocal performance major at a private university? Yes. So yeah, I like to sing. :)

I'm hopefully going to get a men's ensemble going next year and we'll include barbershop; plus I don't think I'd have the time to commit to a local chapter anyway. Thanks for the tip, though!

  • Awesome!!!!

  • That was great!

  • haha i would never have thaugth that i liked this music its AWSOME!!!

  • Good, clean entertainment! Wonderful.

  • Great stuff, not only are they are barbershop quartet, they're also a vaudeville act!

  • These guys are awesome!

  • 7:09

The first man to see the paper wad, "AHA!" can easily be heard over everything else.

  • 3 People Jumbled Up Their Music

  • Anyone putting this down as not *real* barbershop has no idea what they are talking about. You can only do so much with your vocal talent, but there is absolutely no substitute for a PERFORMER who has showmanship. These guys are incredibly talented and it's not only very well sung but entertaining.

  • Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simply incredible! No wonder they are international champions!

  • i love you guys! been with yall from the very beginning! love you second family :) If you ever need a girl to actually sing with you....im here! haha

  • not to seem ignorant, but what is OS and SF?

  • @treewindle Old School

  • @treewindle Old School and Storm Front

  • For those of you who don't get the joke, they are waiting for the girl to sing her part. In the musical (and movie) called The Music Man, her song and theirs fit together. Put this wCpCxD6Em8k after the v= in the url, and go to 3 min 50 sec

  • hilarious!

  • Very clever!!

  • not since FRED has a comedy quartet won the gold.... YAY !!!!

  • 6:48... Jeff's(the tenor's) expression.... beautiful... HA!!!

  • Comment removed

  • barbershop... no matter what you say is performance art... i love OS and SF, musically both of them are beautiful, but performance wise, SF is way way better...

barbershop quartets do not perform behind closed doors... i mean... barbershop, like any other musical group is meant for entertainment... OS and SF are a treat for the ears... but SF are a treat for the eyes as well... :)

  • love the bass in this

  • Awesome.

  • All comedy schtick aside, the majority of points to win International come from the music. If SF wasn't technically excellent, the performance wouldn't have won anything even while wowing the audience. Doing credible comedy while maintaining tonal credibility and keeping it together is something extremely rare. Storm Front should be congratulated, not panned.

  • very few comedy quartets have won at international but they are the most entertaining of all quartets

  • Old School are one of the premier quartets in the US

  • Can anyone explain the joke to me? "You're coaching old school?"

  • @pianoplayerJH Old School was another quarter at the competition that was favored to beat Storm Front.

  • [cont from pg 1] (I like Storm front better in 07 and 08) more than some of the stodgier groups out there. OC Times, for example, did absolutely nothing for me, even when they won. And Max Q was one of the best groups in recent history...but their lead's "clingy" schtick with the bass got REALLY old.

@Thatjevguy: I'm sure they talked to the judges and got clearance before doing it. The second pitch pipe sounding is more to highlight the "turn sheet music 90 deg" joke. That's my SWAG for now.

  • jluckas1: consider yourself duly criticized. Hell, let's go whole hog and roundly chastize you while we're at it. I can even throw in some mockery and perhaps a short critique on your taste in luxury gift certificates for singer in your life.

Seriously, though, what was it that you didn't like? I thought they were much better in both 2009 and 2008 (after replacing their tenor (I kinda wonder what brought that on -- the lack of mention on their site is a tad noteworthy in its absence)) [cont]

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't like this at all. Go ahead... criticize me.

  • Actually - according to the score sheet, this was the song they sang for the semi-final round.

  • They executed this song with such amazing skill! I could watch this over and over and over again (and have!). LOVE it.

  • I love when the music is all messed up and they are singing it out of sync. I sing that out in public and anyone who knows the song just looks at me and says "You know that's not how it goes right?" =)

  • hahaha I just love the tribute to FRED at the end of the song.

  • Last years winners were ten times better...

  • Wow. People still crying because their favorite recycled singers didn't win an umpteenth medal.

  • reminds me of modern drum corps, add a bunch of silliness to jazz up something that was awesome in the first place...

  • Just marvellous both in music and comedy. I loved it.

  • People listen with their eyes.

Remember, the larger majority of those that listen to barbershop, are, well, farther along in their years. Those kind of people, love performances like this one.

  • Some of you have no idea what you're even talking about. First, Metropolis never won International; second, FRED won once (only allowed to win one International by rule); Third, Jukebox is a Bluegrass Student Union song and not SF's own. Finally, how many comedy quartets have won in the past 25 years? Two? Let's not overreact to the demise of the society just yet. Quartets like this are a breath of fresh air. It's more difficult to compete in this style than just standing there.

  • @joeyratpack Very good point. I've also noticed, somewhat distantly, that it appears to be VERY competitive, and that's not because these folks kept taking pot-shots at Old School. It has to be very difficult to come up with fresh material every year, especially with such off-beat humor (try telling me that Jukebox Saturday Night was simple). Personally, I'm hooked, in spite of the suits and in spite of the hassle they gave their tenor (who had at least 25% stake in the win)

  • @joeyratpack

These guys are a disgrace to barbershop music. They, and their BS, are the reason I'm not a member anymore. joeyratpack says they are a breath of fresh air. If you consider a skunk as fresh air, you got it.

  • @WARTWART1 well everyone has an opinion but come this video is for entertainment if you dont wanna watch it then dont nobodys forcing you

  • @WARTWART1, I’m somewhat of a KIBber myself, but what about this wasn’t Barbershop? It was a humorous adaptation of one of the most famous Barbershop songs of all time, and very well done!

Yes, as has been said, comedy is and always has been an acceptable part of Barbershop. Barbershop isn’t just limited to tender and weepy love ballads, depressing “I’m Old and Dying and Living in the Past” songs, etc. etc. etc.

Was Chordiac Arrest not Barbershop? How about Rural Route 4?

  • I don't mind the occasional comedy gag (Max Q with "anything you can do I can do better" and Vocal Spectrum with "I wanna be like you")...but SF WAY overdid this.

  • Smooth singing...silly schtick ( that I could have lived without).

  • Beautiful :) I can appreciate this very much! Thank you for posting!

  • it really ticks me off how a lot of people can't just appreciate a good barbershop quartet. Storm Front is obviously a great group

  • @asia14789 i dont think its that they dont appreciate it, its that they dont understand how hard it is XD

  • @WARTWART1 There is absolutely no reason why a group like this can't win the contest. If you had listened to their CD StormWarning, you would know that they are very talented people, and that they sound absolutely fantastic on stage too. Comedy is a branch of barbershop that has been going on for years, and I can't understand the reasoning behind your complaint. Storm Front are among many comedy quartets, including Metropolis and FRED, who have become world champions.

  • @PMBDaKing I do not have a problem with their singing. It's all the BS between notes that makes me mad. If you are in a "singing" contest (and that's what barbershop music is all about) throwing papers, looking under the curtain on all 4's should NEVER be allowed. I know it started some years ago, but it has gone on (and way to far in my humble opinion) long enough. Go back to what barbershop MUSIC is all about. singing. A little "stage presents" is fine, but it is WAY OVERBOARD now.

  • @PMBDaKing Metropolis won the GOLD? I missed that contest....hmmmm. Nothing wrong with the comedic element being contestable in competition... Add The Most Happy Fellows to the list, but SF's brand just doesn't sit well with me for some reason. They can ring chords, but their comedy is uncomfortable to my funny bone.....Kudos to them nonetheless.

  • @WARTWART1

I agree! Artistic variety should have NO place in barbershop!

  • @WARTWART1 And please stay out. We as a society do not want horrible, narrow-minded attitudes such as yours plaguing our brotherhood.

  • I'm sorry....I love barbershop in it's purest form, and especially the new arrangements and the direction it's going, but listening to these guys is like watching a very bad Will Ferrell movie or SNL sketch....I don't see the comedic value in their approach....maybe the judges got tired of listening to them too and retired them.....I'm just sayin'....

  • @Floatingone1 disagree

  • I take it this was not what they presented during compitition but as part of the showcase?

  • I think that most of the comments here somehow miss the point: what a great performance!

  • Great floor show. Where does the cruise ship stop tomorrow?

  • I don't mean to sound like i'm berating anyone, but these guys are EXTREMELY similar to the quartet group FRED who won multiple times back in the 90's.

  • @lucaspinoli I can think of 3 things wrong with this comment

  • Darrin Drown was my daughter's choir teacher at one time. In 2004, we went to a Sound of the Rockies show. We initially went as sort of a "suck-up to the teacher thing", but to our amazement, we loved it. My daughter is in her 4th year of college and even though she doesn't need to "suck-up" anymore, we still love Barbershop, with SF being our favorite quartet. Though some believe SF didn't deserve Gold, considering the years of hard work they have put it, they showed they really are #1!!!

  • Does anyone know any Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonians in barbershop?

  • @cajuninms Jeff Avey and Kurt Lemmert, both at Frostburg State University, and now members of the Allegany Co (MD) chapter. Jeff is coordinator of strings for Allegany Co schools, and director of the Chorus of the Potomac. Kurt is on math faculty at FSU and sings tenor or lead in at least three quartets.

  • @cajuninms Syd (bass, Storm Front) is Phi Mu Alpha - Northwest Missouri State University.

  • I appreciate the comedy side to Barbershop singing; it brings me back to the days of FRED. However, they lacked heavily in the music aspects of their performance. It was quite an unpleasant change from the blend of Crossroads

  • Comment removed

  • the man on the far left is my choir teacher, he's an excellent teacher and he did a great job in this competition :D woo go Drown! :)

  • They have every detail pinned down, even the green socks! These guys are pros.

  • They are very good--but I've been spoiled by The Buffalo Bills singing this in The Music Man and wish it been more lively, the schtiking part aside.

  • Is anyone else upset that the society posted this song instead of their Jukebox Saturday Night parody? I mean this is a great song, but nothing really beats Jukebox Saturday Night for them in my opinion.

  • @actor616 Any song posted by the BHS has licensing fees involved. 'Jukebox' is technically a melody of several songs, each of which has its own fee, so it would have made it significantly more expensive to post to YouTube.

  • O love comic quartets.

  • In 2001 when the Arizona Diamondbacks won the World Series over the Yankees I believe the only people upset were Yankee fans. Maybe that is why I can't "stomach" this society anymore. The elitest who say why a group like this "shouldn't have won" or "don't tell me this is where barbershop is heading!" What the hell are you people going to do when names like Oxley, Connley, Wilson, Henry, De Rosa, are no longer in the Society? Excuse me whilst I click the LIKE button.

  • @workitworkman i'd double "vote up" your comment if there was a button for it... :)
