The Japanese movies were freaking epic! Yes they strayed away from the original series but they made it work! Yes the CGI didn't look that realistic but some of the effects they had to do for the Shinigami were very tricky to do! The actors were epic and the setting was brilliant! There is no freaking way that America could ever do Death Note nearly as well as the Japanese did... ESPECIALLY IF THEY USE ZAC BLOODY EFRON! HOW WILL PEOPLE TAKE HIM SERIOUSLY?

@zeroskaterz92 The director of this Death Noye adaptation, Shane Black is a big Death Note fan. He said himself that wants to stick to the manga and make it as close to the original manga as he can. The producers tried to cut ryuk out and he stuck to his guns and said No, ryuk stays. I trust Shane Black. If thete is an anime film that stands a chance of being a good american film, it's Death Note.

i've been waiting for someone to say this. I agree with every point you make. I do think the same thing sometimes about assuming death note fans would be relatively smart. People compulsively saying "Oooomg, huge failure, Dragonball Evolution" need to stop. Death note is one of the few manga that can be adapted for a western audience and do well

i agree with not changing the story line. i loved the whole near kira rivalry. i do hate near but not enough to get rid of him. i see your point with zac effron. he would be good for the role of light. plus i think johnny dep should be ryuk cuz he could pull it off.

I disagreee with this the zack effron part.... well in my opinnion no he shouldnt be light, yes he looks ike light yagami. He doesnt have his personality yes hes a good actor and other stuff but he cant potray lights character. He cant be light he doesnt fit the character at all as a person he cant.

I agree with you. Yeah, Zac makes you want to run away screaming, but only because of disney. I haven't seen any of his other movies, and I there are others like me out there, so this is his chance to proove himself. I think you're right about Ryuk and Mello and Near. They are completely neccisary. And yes, I LOVE L, but he had to die. It just makes Death Note more epic. So, if this really does happen, I'll definately go see it with an open mind.

The part about Johnny Depp pulling off the role as L is true, he can do it, but if he were to play a role in this movie of course it would have to be Ryuk for obvious reasons. Think about it, he has that creepy essence acting ability that Ryuk must have in this film. I just cannot see Johnny Depp playing any other role in this film.

I think Zac Efron could pull off Light, but they definitely need to make the Shinigamis look real by using real people. I think they should make Ryuku look scary as hell.

Dude i completely agree with youu! and i think that joseph gordon levitt is THE MAN i love that guy so if he played L i wouldnt give an eff, however i do have a few, maybe crazy or random, suggestions for other possible actors to be him like maybe james franco or jesse eisenberg...although the chemistry between the actors may be a bit weird...going back to your zac efron screamin disney comment lol i couldnt imagine him acting with any of the actors mentioned haha idk mann movie making is tricky

Is this all big news to you people? They've been saying that their going to make an American Death Note movie since 2008. It's been four years alredy. And I don't think Zac Efron is going to play Light, he say's he's working on other projects right now, and the movie is set to come out by 2013 or 2014. Can't wait to see it, they better not fuck it up like all those other Hollywood remakes. ...

The Japanese Live-action movies were good. The shinigamis looked like they did in the anime. Japanese movies didn't keep L alive, they had him to die using the 23-day rule, and had the spin-off movie within those days.

If the US does make three movies - 1st one up to when Light and L meets. 2nd to where Light defeats L. 3rd having Near and Mello I will check it out. As for removing CGI shinigami, since the creatures looked good in Clash of the Titans. CGI would be fine.

First of all, I am a Bleach fan. I am NOT stupid.

Second, I just found out about this movie today. If they do this, I really wouldn't have a problem with Zac Efron being Light. I think that he has the proper facial expressions for it, and I also believe that he would play the part well. If that were to change, however, and Light were played by another actor, I might suggest Chase Ellison.

Finally, I agree that JOHNY DEPP would make a great L. There's nothing more to it.

@NethNix13 wow you possibly think Hollywood can make a better version for Japanese movies? well let see, DragonBall, King of Fighters, Tekken, Speed Racer...among of all, Silent Hill was the closest as an adaptation. since the director is a REAL fan of Silent Hill. they only change the main character.

why would we wanna see another one? we already read the manga, we already watch the anime, we already watch the live action movie, what would makes the remake will be different?

@zeroskaterz92 I think it could only get better in the case of Death Note because, to be honest, the Japanese kind of ruined it. If America can stick with the plot line and have better special effects, it would be better. Also, forget everything you just said and ask yourself: if a Death Note live action came out in America, would I go to the theaters to see it? For most Death Note fans, I'm guessing the answer would be yes.

Either way, I don't see what I have to loose by wanting them to make another version. That said, in the end this doesn't really matter, and I'm tired of arguing.

@NethNix13 I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be an awesome choice for L. All they'd need to do is deck him out in make-up/wig. He's got the acting ability to pull it off, and that's what really counts. He also doesn't seem to mind taking part in films that won't be giant hits, as long as he likes the material. I mean, Johnny Depp in Death Note? That's a bit of a pipe dream :P (And he really is too old for L).

I know its hard to imagine because its far from his usual characters but id like to get your opinion on that

I genuinely think he could. I mean, first off it's always easier laying the bad guy than the protagonist. Honestly, he looks exactly like Light. From what I've heard he's actually read the series too, which is a plus. My biggest nightmare is they have Robert Pattinson play him, which I have heard o.o
