HELLO! MELODY IS A LOT LIKE, MAKE A BEAUTIFUL VERSION MADE, AND FABULOUS TOUCH YOU SING VERY WELL, YOU HAVE A VERY NICE VOICE AND ARE a very nice person.GET A friendly greeting from Hermosillo, SONORA, MEXICO ..... GEORGE BEARD.**********
Very, very nice! I really like your recording! I will ask my guitar teacher to teach me your instrumental portion. I will use this song for my performances at a hospital and a senior care facility. I know they will enjoy this! Keep up your good work! By the way, I am now thinking of growing a beard and mustache.
This is a really joyful track. It is so jug band/old timey.
I really like the tonal quality you get from not capoing up a couple of frets on the guitar but play in the same key as the mandolin - and, I assume, the tenor guitar.
What would the old "one man bands" have given for the ability we have to mix.
Really neat the way the videos fades your instruments from one to another. Guess all that is easier to do with great graphics/computer programs, but it looks and sounds impressive. Will, as usual, great stuff!
This song was written by one of our Louisiana Governors, Jimmy Davis. It is said that he wrote it about one of his race horses named "Sunshine". There are also rumors that he wrote it about one of Louisiana's biggest "pork barrel" projects the "Sunshine River Bridge" -- a toll bridge that when built crossed the Mississippi River from one corn field to another.
I love my Louisiana politics, which really hasn't changed since the days of Huey P. Long.
Interesting story! The complete words of the song - which I know but haven't sung here - are clearly about a fickle lover, but it may well have been inspired by a horse! :-)
I went to Louisiana State University during the 1970's and had the opportunity to talk to the people that knew Jimmy Davis.... And I saw him perform this song. He always had a twinkle in his eye when he sang it. Both of these stories have some credibility. But, again, with Louisiana Politics, you never know.
great stuff. wonder if you are familiar with the mandolin playing of Bill Monroe? also much appreciated instruction on Van Ronk's Come Back Baby...I would love one on Danny Boy. Most, certainly many guitar teachers just can't get it across to us dreamers. you have that rare gift of teacher and player. Thanks and God Bless....Chad from Missouri USA
:)) tks. Will, you have a lot more talent than My Dear Ole Dad but the sound of this My Favorite one my dad played is a little different too what he played but that's OK like I said he just had his ole martin which as you know I have now, & can't sell it goodgrief he would roll over in his grave if I sold it even though I've been offered a lot for it.....it's not the money it's the sentimental value of it know what I mean:)) tks. for the songs dj

Oh BTW.... a great rendition of the song.

Never sell it. My friends sold their Mom's Martin from the 30s and regret it daily.
