I remember the snake got bitten in half but then just carried on like nothing had happened for a year or two...and I think one of the pheasants got shot (or maybe that was a rabbit) and a hedgehog definitely got run over by a car...maybe both hedgehogs...

@NoBrianNoGain I can only speak from the books, having not seen the series for so long, but adder only loses the tip of his tail to scarface and the big cat (lord knows if that actually made it to the series) only scratched him, or her, in this case.

I'd forgotten that this was quite so educational. It really does open children's eyes to the dangers which animals face and as an Australian (where we don't get badgers or moles or newts or hedgehogs) it was an intro to different, beautiful, animals too. :D Man I miss this series!

It's never been released on dvd which is why everything about farthing wood is in VHS quality. there's a petition you can sign online though where a group of people are trying to get it released. Sadly this is one of those forgotten tv series : (

Actually it's been released in France and is due out in Germany in Sept. According to amazon the DVD will have two languages on it, German & English.
