  • I read that whole grains had oils and stuff that millers discarded for shelf life. read that whole grains start breaking down in 2 months

  • I wonder how to store flour ( so it doesn't get weevils ) I know rice gets better the longer you keep it and pulses get harder the longer you keep them so a stainless steel pressure cooker is a must in my opinion Tins of ghee get better the longer you keep them Ayurvedic doctors say that 100yr old ghee( stored in silver containers ) cures all diseases.

  • They really need to sell oxygen absorbers in lesser quantities. A sixteen pack of oxygen absorbers? By the time you get to the tenth bucket, the remaining oxygen absorbers are petering out, forcing you to buy more just so you can be sure you're getting the benefit of the oxygen absorbers... and wasting the rest of them because you don't need them. Sounds like a scam is being run on preppers here to me with these things.

  • Great Video Very Informative

  • your video is great help thank you! and i have a question for you, how to get the smell out of the glaze/icing buckets from the dounuts shops? i have tried lemon and baking soda, soap and soaking in the sun. anything thing else i can try? thanks

  • So I picked up free buckets at my local deli, but the caps will not tighten on the pale because the strap has been removed. If the cap does not seal on the pale will that shorten the storage time of the food? It will still be sealed in the mylar bag.

  • Question: I'm thinking about storing processed flour in Mylar bags in buckets. What's your suggestion on this? What's the shelf-life on this stuff if packed in Mylar with oxygen absorbers and a bucket w/ a gasketed lid? What would the shelf life be? Any other comments, suggestions, etc. are welcome from you or other viewers who have any experience in this matter. Thanks!

  • The nurse is right

#2 isn't food grade anymore than #1 thru #7 are

To prove the point mylar bags are #1 PET

  • @YuppiePrepper Again, read and listen to what people are saying.

1- FDA considers HDPE#2 a suitable plastic for food products( doesnt mean used #2's are safe).

2- Using any common ,clean, new or HDPE 2 bucket that previously held food is safe for your LTS.

3- When using Mylars with your LTS, The bucket is nothing more than a container for the food.

When people look past that, and want to argue small issues ( ex. pet1 mylar bags) it now throws that seed of doubt to new survivalist/preppers.

  • @YuppiePrepper cont- Look how many threads and articles are out about LTS and how to do it on the web. These films were put out nearly 4 years ago. Due to the severe lack of info for newcomers. They are kept basic and to the point. Talking about HDPE 2 was one of those. It is safe to say " make sure you have a clean or new hdpe 2 bucket....." vs " get a plastic bucket.." . That way Jimmy the tard prepper in newjersey doesn't walk over to the mechanics shop, grab a 5 gallon bucket......

  • @YuppiePrepper cont-...that held a caustic degreaser, plop his 5 lbs of rice in it and thinks he is good to go! I mean after all that PAW productions guys just said to use a bucket..they didnt say what kind....

Use rule #2 below....all is good. Use a new one from HD,LOWES etc,,with mylar g2g. Use one that held acid, motor oil, cleaners...not a good idea, some of those buckets are NOT HDPE2 due to the chemicals they held.

  • @YuppiePrepper Wow! Re-watch the first 1 minute and actually LISTEN to what I say versus what you thought you heard- "generally considered food grade" is exactly what was said.

  • I would watch a 10 minute video of just you playing with that mylar bag in the sun again.

    Great vid man, thanks.

  • These are about 8 yrs old? Leftovers from Y2K Which was overblown. High density poly esterine? Come on. Write a researched script and follow it. Other wise you waste time. Thanks for the correction NurseMeister. I have a feeling this vid needs a lot of correction.

  • @chuckbyf1 A "researched script"- wth over? OK for the SIXTH MILLION TIME, all you need do is go in less than :50 seconds to hear me state clearly- "HDPE 2 is GENERALLY CONSIDERED food grade." "Generally considered" and IT IS.

Be interested to hear what LONG TERM experience you have in packing and storing food long term? I ran a mid size commercial cannery for 2 years in the late 90's putting up and selling over 1/2 million lbs. of food, been in the industry over 20 years, how about you?

  • @chuckbyf1 thank you for taking the time to tell us how we should do our vids. However, since your channel has zero films about long term storage, or even any preparedness related topics ,that you are just trolling.

  • For anyone that didn't miss me being crystal clear on this- at about the :40 second mark I said that type of plastic was "GENERALLY CONSIDERED FOOD GRADE" I did NOT say those are definitely food grade. In the THOUSANDS of buckets that have passed through or by my hands in the last 25 years I have yet to see one bucket SPECIFICALLY MARKED FOOD GRADE FROM THE FACTORY. Call Ropak, ask them which type of bucket they use, call Walton, ask them, look at the buckets from the bakery, etc. Get it done

  • It may have been mentioned prior, but the #2 on the bucket has nothing to do with whether or not the bucket is food grade plastic.

The number designation has to do with how it will be recycled at the end of its useful life, NOT what it was manufactured for or has ever contained (i.e. rat poison is stored in #2 buckets as well ; )

If you are so massively poor that a couple of dollars for a new, food grade bucket is too much money - ask your self exactly what are you trying to survive for? LOL

  • @NurseMeister Actaully the number designation does play a part in what the bucket/plastic is used for. HDPE #2 plastics are designated by the FDA for use with food grade products. That however doesn't mean that the bucket/plastic has been used to store foods(HDPE2 has many uses). When packing using Mylar bags This concern is secondary,as the bucket does nothing but hold the food bag. Commonsense says that you shouldnt use a bucket that held acid..over one that is new or previously held food.

  • @NurseMeister I have also said this 1000+ times. An FDA stamp of "food grade" doesnt mean much. I use FDA approved silicon lubricants on my job. That doesnt mean i use it to clean my cast iron with to make them non stick, or spray it on my grill. If the buckets your using are new(aka hardware store buckets) or used ( held food previously or non caustic/harmful products) and you are using mylar bags, it doesnt matter.

  • @delta69alpha ...It’s the chemical designation of the type of plastic for RECYCLING ONLY. Food Grade only means that it lacks dyes, antimicrobials, harmful recycled plastic material

#1 PET = FOOD-GRADE for stuff like carbonated beverages

#2 HDPE = FOOD-GRADE high density polyethylene good all around plastic

    #3 Vinyl = FOOD-GRADE shrink wrap etc

Plus 4-more flavors of plastic ALL CAN BE FOOD GRADE

Not to push, but this is a common mistake, and if you continue the mistake, it becomes a lie!

  • @delta69alpha Nope, nope, nope. Sorry, but you are wrong about your understanding about the #2 Plastic

There are nearly as many types of plastic polymers as there are items to be put in them.

Laypeople are fixated on these little numbers on the bottom, let me say it again and loudly so that the misinformed on places like YouTube can perhaps finally figure this out.

THE NUMBER ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR PLASTIC BUCKET DOES NOT

HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH FOOD-GRADE vs. nonFOOD-GRADE PLASTIC

  • @NurseMeister HDPE 2 is considered a food use plastic by the FDA. In the context of LTS food storage. It is a mute point, like i already pointed out above. But, it seems you have a different agenda.

Since YouTube is full of simple minded laypeople , who cant tie their own shoes, you wont miss being blocked from this channel. I mean after all, think of all that food that someone is putting away in a rubber maid tote right now. Oh i cant stand the thought of it..Use mylar, clean bucket= no issue!

  • goddamn mylar bags cost allot

  • i put my rice in a mylarbag with an oxygnabsorber but it didnot get as tight as the beans did. is that ok?

  • Hi #UN#, Let's stay in touch with my vlog channel ! Feel free to Subscribe, Like, Comment, and make Favorite to @ciciliciousnyc! <3

  • Sir, I have food grade buckets that I got from work. These buckets come with a lid that has a circular cut out that is sealed. Do you think this would be ok to use? also, do you think that dehydrated foods are better to buy or to dehydrate ones self?

    thanks very much.

  • If you pack your food in buckets with mylar bags the less chance there is of light and oxygen getting in, especially in powdered milk which will turn yellow and lose vitamins. I have stored food in the buckets for several years without mylar bags, but quite honestly, the plastic can become porus after three to five years and then you need to repack them.. You really need the rubber seal in the lid for safe storage. Also, I wouldn't use feed grain, you want highest quality food.

  • Sir, we just got 5 gallon icing buckets from Meijer and they have a #5 in the recycling symbol and there is no rubber seal on the lid....is this ok??

  • @Izaana030505 if they held cake icing i would assume so. Anything that was known to store food (as those buckets) would be safe to use for your LTS. Remember the bucket is nothing more than a vessel to hold your mylar bag full of food. It is the "hard" barrier more or less of the system,

  • The only way to prepare for not only disaster, but life and death, is to seek, know and live in the truth. Search "truth contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read it. What it says will turn this world right side up. Pass it along to everyone you can reach.

  • @vividDC You can't find the truth on the fucking internet. If you think you can, your deluding yourself.

  • Thanks for the great tips!

  • will corn meal and pasta store well with this process

    thanks

  • ASP need to know whats a good bulk food to buy????

  • Dave in Idaho--

Concerning the wheat you are storing---Feed wheat is just that. The quality/grade of wheat is lower, so it is used to feed animals. Many times it has shriveled kernels due to being frozen or rained on. For human consumption,(making bread, etc.) store and use #1 hard red spring wheat or white spring wheat. The higher the grade number on wheat the lesser the quality. We have hard red spring wheat that has been stored for 30 years in buckets and it makes very good bread.

  • Hey, Love the videos....check out our sites PreservationPublications & PreservationPublications.blogspot

  • HDPE buckets with the recycle sign are not always food grade. Nonetheless, if you use mylar, you do not need a food grade bucket (or even a bucket for that matter)

  • I had an opportunity to pick up some kitty litter cans a while back. I like them because of their rectangular shape. They are not food grade; however, I'm planning on usinmg mylar bags. Everyone seems to push food grade buckets. Can I use the kitty litter buckets if I put my goodies in mylar bags first?

This may be a dumb question but please bear with me.

  • @001madmex The sqaure bucket style will work. But you need to wash them out and use mylars. Only issue would be how high you could stack them before the lids cave in.

  • Sir,

I had a question. If you dehydrate fruits and vegetables properly, and store them using this method, how long would they last? I'm guessing the dehydrating process would remove most liquids and help slow/stop the product from becoming rancid. I have a local vineyard where I can pick apples for about 25 cents a lbs, and was wondering approximately how long they would last if they were dehydrated and properly stored in mylar?

    Thank you

  • Hello Delta, thank you very much for your excellent videos. If you had rice stored in buckets for years then you open it, do you have to use all that rice bucket within a week or so, or can you reseal it to last for another few months/years etc. At the moment I am unsure whether to either vaccum pack or mylar/oxygen pack individual bags suitable for 1-3 people and then put the bags into the buckets or just pour a rice into the bucket with mylar/oxygen. Thanks Misscpb

  • 5 or 10 properly sealed buckets can go a long way for food security....much cheaper to do them yourself but they do sell them pre-made.......

  • I know this is a dumb question. What do u put in buckets? Rice? wheat? is kinda what i'm hearing...and lets say economy collapses..how do u eat it? Just boil it?

  • @dickmimic Rice, pasta, beans, oats, wheat, corn, drys oup mix, powdered drink mixes, coffee, salt, sugar, spices,TVP,grits, seeds, lentils, clothes, ammo, dried veggies or veggie mixes- instant potatoes, and flakes ,the only thing that limits you is the amount of moisture in the food your packing ( it has to be dried - aka pasta ,beans) You eat it like you would now. No difference.

  • @delta69alpha I am just beginning my long term food storage. My question is, is it necessary to package all foods ie pasta, legumes and grains in mylar bags? Would these foods keep for 5+ years, left in their original bags/packages, if packed in food grade containers/buckets? Thank you for all of your great informative videos! Keep them coming, please!

  • If anyone is looking at stockpiling food that provides a complete meal replacement but is mixable with simply water, take a look at this. It is primarly used for weight management, but is inert and would be great to store for emergency use... 485322.bodybyvi.com

  • great vid thank you

  • When I was 8 years old, civil war was taking place in my country and food,gas,etc...was in very short supply....the same will happen when gas hits $5+ per gallon in US. Food will be SO expensive....BELIEVE ME!....you don't want to run out food in the future....Thank you for the video! it is very informative...

  • Food storage is important so get it done. Then evolve into food sustainabality. This collapse is said to trigger a two decade deporession. 8 million starved last one. 80% farmed then. • ive bought 10 kg plastic bags of rice and have packed 3 of them in those clear plastic 32 litre square tubs with lids do you think my rice will last more than 10 years im going to put in oxy absorbers and tape down the lid for total air seal oh yeh each bag of rice will be in a vacumed sealed bag

  • @rolficus Pour your individual bags into mylar liners and bucket them. That's your best option long term. The little plastic baggies that rice comes in won't last more than a couple years before biodegrading.

  • @SurvivalReport cheers for the advice dude will do- ive bought 7 food grade buckets and mylar

  • Are hand warmers the same as oxygen absorbers?

  • @prayfortruejustice I have yet to see any professional packing house use any of the BS like: Handwarmers, mylar party balloons, soda pop bottles, dry ice, Diatomaceous earth for packing. Do what the professionals do, it's been PROVEN. I for one would not "step over a dollar to pick up a dime" and use toxic non food grade hand warmers anywhere near food I intended to eat.

  • @SurvivalReport Sound and simple advice.

  • I like the video and I believe in what you are dong. I believe in the possibility of an economic collapse.

Add to that possibility the fact that bio fuel production will be driving up the price of food things could get really bad, Have you seen this:

It offers an alternative solution for people who watch your videos. If you would like to talk about it please call me 810 955 1860.

  • People stay in the highway lane that is being merged into another lane because butting in earlier is obnoxious--it is like jumping in line before your turn. If you are at the head of the line, you have waited fairly and the next person should let you in. It's those butting in early causing slowdowns 'cause you have to accommodate them plus the people merging in at the head of the line. Just another perspective.

  • I want to start storing food, and just wondering if you store things like this how long will it last? If I store grains/oats/;wheat etc will it last for many years?

  • thank you, very useful information...

  • Sorry to piggy back the questions but I have 10 buckets ready to go and was wondering what ten things you would store in them. Thank you.

  • Great info and video. Can Spices such as Pepper, salt, Cumin, etc be stored in the same manner as the rice and beans in the HDPE buckets with Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers or do you recommend another method? Again, thanks for all the info.

  • @12UltraMk Yes spices can be stored as such. Un ground spices last longer. Ground spices lose their potency after a while. As to 10 things to store. Stick with basic grains- rice, oats, wheat, beans(different varietys) and pasta along with salt, sugar and baking soda. Would round things out.

  • @delta69alpha Thank you again. I look forward to more videos.

  • @lizzylizardson not me. i started researching info like this last year when almost everyone i knew lost their homes and became homeless. it really dosent take a rocket scientist to see we are heading into a depression. but better late than never to start preparing its like i tell people i had rather look like a fool preparing for nothing than look "normal" and not be prepared at all wshtf.

  • Interesting videos.

  • Try vackpak.com they have the best prices and quality

  • Home Depot has very cheap buckets and lids right now. Almost a dollar less than Lowes. We just put away a lot of red whole wheat, and so I stored my full Mylar bags in 55gal trash cans (since that was cheaper then buying 10 buckets.)

Also, Amazon and eBay have the best prices on Mylar bags and Absorbers right now. Seems there is a price war going on :) Also, I use the 4.3 mil 5 Gallon Mylar Bags with 2,000cc absorbers and the 3.5 Mil 1 gall on bags (with 300cc absorbers).

  • What mm or thinkness is the mylar you are using and what are the basic foods you place in the buckets for long term storage that hold up well like rice beans, etc?

  • what are your views on using hand/foot warmers for oxygen absorbers.

  • @capemom2 if the shtf anyone coming for my food will be food...

  • where did you get those bags ??

    and the 2000 things?

  • @waala1 those were from simpler living, but they can be purchased all over the web(sorbent systems) same for the oxy absorbers.

  • @delta69alpha Try vackpak.com they have great prices on bags and Oxy Absorbers

  • Nice vids; does anyone know if you can store couscous this way? very tasty and easy to prepare/nutritious.

  • @maximuslaurius yes it will store this way. It is a pasta afterall.

  • grain production down 20% in Russia just announced; food prices worldwide expected to rise.....

  • Thanks so much for these videos! Do I need to repackage salt and sugar into mylar w/ CO2 and buckets? If food is in mylar with the absorbers, does the bucket need to be sealed tight with silicone or duct tape? I got some buckets @ Lowes, but the lids do not have gaskets in them. Do I need to tape them? Thanks so much for your help!

  • @crowleychick As long as the mylar is sealed you should be fine. The bucket is just a "container" to hold the mylar bag. Your salt/sugar is ok with out o2's. It is up to you to mylar or not( i would is the bucket has no seal) D69

  • WARNING!**DO NOT BUY BULK FOODS OR CONTAINERS ON LINE, or use credit cards or "shopping club cards"-according to Executive Order #10998 stored food may be subject to confiscation! You do not want a paper trail back to your address! Try to get food storage containers from local restaurants. Pay cash for all bulk food purchases. Also, do not show or tell children that you are stockpiling food-they may blab, and your home may be a target for hunger-crazed people.

  • @capemom2 People have been saying this for the 24 years I've been preparing. What "paper trail" do you think is going to take place ordering storage food online? Pick a responsible vendor that doesn't have "survival supplies" in their name if your using a CC. Ask that you NOT receive an invoice. You can always pay with a money order under an assumed name and have it shipped to a mailboxes etc. type place. Paranoia isn't going to keep your family from starving.... "Dave in Idaho"

  • Please clean up the sound, the back ground clicking was a pain. You appear to know what you are doing but I left after a minute of the bad sound.

  • @JimFariello This was our second movie we ever made. The camera was held by hand. If you didnt watch the whole film that is your choice. We do these movies for free,on our time, with our own equipment. In other words we do this all to help folks on our dime and ask nothing in return! Sorry you found such a small issue to complain about and used it as an excuse to not learn more about food storage. D69

  • @JimFariello Well perhaps it's better to watch those who DON'T know what they are doing but have Spielberg effects and cinematography??? That doesn't make much sense.

Let's remember that these folks are using THEIR time and THEIR money to give you FREE information they worked hard, sweated and sometimes PAID for.

  • @delta69alpha Im based in the UK and am new to long term food storage, so please forgive my lack of knowledge I would like to know what difference it makes in terms of storge if I buy something from my local store with an expiry date of say Dec 2011. If I go on to store these grains in Aluminium bags (have not been able to source Mylars) with the o2 strips will the grain still last for 10-20yrs?

  • @hummingbird975 Cant say for sure since i dont know how the store packed ones are packed over there . You should be able to buy mylar bags etc via the internet. If not your looking at a rotation plan of every 2-5 yrs on the grains depending on how they are stored( ie: bucket, with sealed lid, and either plastic baged-ziplocked etc) . Get the mylars and o2 if possible!

  • Can you tell me if its possible to store Lipton tea bags in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers and if so how long will they store without loosing the quality in taste

  • @JOHNNYHREB any dried items canbe stored. I can not comment on how long tea bags will last from experiance . They wont be rotten thats for sure but may not be as "strong" as if they were fresh. I would suspect that if packed correctly they would easily go 2-3 years past "best by" date without issue. D69

  • DELTA69ALPHA is the hard feed corn sold in feedstores edible? i know it is dirt cheap , COULD IT BE STORED THEN GROUND INTO CORNMEAL?

  • @filmitfilmit triple cleaned corn is cheap. As long as it is pesticide free and clean it can be stored and ground into meal.

  • I have an awesome tip for moisture absorption! You can use kitty litter, not the gravel type, the blue expensive type for oder control...what do you think? It's dirt cheap and you get pounds of it...

  • @Winter077 its not food grade so i wouldnt use kittah litter with my food,

  • Do you recommend using places like, Self Storage, etc to store your survival food and tools, if you do not live in a house or alike. There is not much space in my apartment, so i figure i rent some low cost Storage place and store my stuff there and if/when the shit hit's the fan, i can go and get the stuff. Or something. I'm so new at this. lol

  • @Arcane1Soldier If it's a question of not storing food or storing it at a self storage center, then by all means use one. Pick a RURAL one that might be in or near a decent bug out location. No sense in having one in the city for the looters to pillage through. Keep in mind the possibility of this being used as a shelter also, either for you or for someone else.... Good luck! "Dave from Idaho"

  • I went to my local salvage yard and got used 5-gal buckets with lids for $3 each, had to wash them out a little, but it was worth it to save a few bucks and recycle.

  • I like how you decide to use the extra oxygen absorber. better to be safe than sorry, right?

  • What do you think of using the hot hands hand warmers in place of the 02's. Thank you

  • Thank you for the great information. A little hard to watch though due to the person holding the camera making so much darn noise.

  • If i buy wheat i think is too dirty or has another problem (from a feed store isnt it still a very valuable sprout seed?Wouldnt whole corn also be a very valuable sprout seed?Even if it were gmo?

  • ill go cannibal

  • Can you store Tortilla flour mix for a long period of time. The one I have on hand has no yeast in it. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

  • @NRH117 Check to see if it has BAKING POWDER as an ingredient. If so plan on rotating very regularly, as in six months to a year.

  • Oxygen what ???

  • I'm assuming if You have a vac sealer You could take out the absorbers You need and immediately vac seal them, what are Your thoughts on this idea

  • @survivor31971 Vacuum sealing removes air. The only way to preserve food is to keep it out of an O2 environment. O2 absorbers remove only the O2 and leave the nitrogen behind, so the food has no O2 to cause it to rot. I've found that vac sealing only last about one yr. and with some foods less than that. I have found that O2 and Mylar will last up to 30 yrs, that's why the military stores food and steel parts this way. I've opened Mylar bags from the 70's and the parts look new.

  • do they recommend very gay wire frame sunglasse s to be worn when its not that bright out?

  • Would the old space bags for clothes work for food storage for long term? I have had camping stuff ( including food ) in 1 and placed in a tote that was fresh almost a year later.

  • BTW I live in SoCal, and I doubt the temps in any of our warehouses are low enough to kill most bugs, so I think we might go ahead and use the dry ice, along with mylar and O2 absorbers. Dry Ice is cheap, and if it can't hurt, then why not?

    Thanks!

  • Thanks a million for posting this. You're a life saver... literally!

Have you thought about LTS quinoa? This grain is incredibly high in protein, easy to prepare, and super versatile (all big plusses in survival/disaster scenarios.) Does it store well using your technique? Also, what about vegetable oil? The 5 gal containers for sale at Costco say use by "2012." Does it go stale? Or just go "bad"? How can we store oil? Thanks again!

  • Dave, thank you for explaining clearly how to store long-term food storage items. Your comments about oxygen absorbers and Mylar bags are right on. Great video! I just added some of your videos on my Home Food Storage playlist.:)

  • Is there an average moisture level of grains sold at the store or elevator. How much is too much moisture? Is there too little of moisture? How can you tell before storing? Should we use Desiccants???

    Thank You!!!

  • Hi Grest vids! a few questions

    1. I bought some hdpe #2 5 gal. buckets from Lowel's, they have the Lowel's logo on them and are gray, are these still "food grade?"

    2. I just packed 33 lb of white flour before reading your comment on it being a waste, do I need to throw this out?

    3. How would you recommend storing pasta, sugar, and salt?

Thanks in advance I have learned alot from your vids!

  • 1- if your packing with mylar those lowes buckets are fine. The only way to be 100% sure is to purchase food grade from the producer or pre used food grade- pickle buckets for example.

2- RH is saying he feels it is a waste vs un ground wheat. I feel the same do to shelf life issues and ease of packing.

3- I personally store pasta as i would any other grain in mylar w/o2's. Sugar.salt i pour in with out o2's.

  • I used to get tons of #2 food grade 4 gal buckets free from the local grocery, i used them to make beer/wine. gotta clean them but they free, great video great info thanks!1\

  • @delta69alpha

I think you are right about the buckets from lowes. as long as you have a mylar bag in there, you should be fine. thanks for the vid.! lot of good info

  • I was just told that the oxygen absorbers kill your wheat so that it's less likely to sprout which where you get the most nutritional value. Use food grade diatomaceous earth instead. Just something I learned today.

  • @lodiggity69 You don't want to ingest DE, at least most people don't want to.

Oxygen absorbers won't "kill your wheat" however OVER TIME you will see a marked decrease in the germination of the seed. This is common with ALL SEEDS over time.

  • the best thing you can do is buy guns and food and do it now. get information like the information in this video. YOU NEED TO DO THIS! whether you believe in guns or not and never turn it in if asked to do so.

  • Thanks!

    Great information and videos.

    Every little bit helps :-)

  • Thankyou delta69alpha I will do. I was short on time. Its great that you are doing this for all of us. Very much appreciate it!

  • whole wheat flour goes rancid (between 6 months and 2 years depending on storage temperature) because of its high oil content. White flour can be stored reliably up to 5 years. Best is to store grains and then grind when needed. Wheat will store indefinately. (note: the various types of wheat Hard Winter, "Summer" Red or white etc. Certain types better for pasta, others for breads or pastries. Google it before youy buy. Check Gluten content etc).

  • @TFSTrader Grains are best correct, you are also correct about the white flour. I was told be several "experts" on this that they white flour will " GO BAD AFTER ONE YEAR, 2 YEARS TOPS! ". In March 2008, I stored some white flour with oxy absorbers in mylar in a food bucket. I opened it YESTERDAY and the flour is as good as the day I put it in there, if there is a difference, I cannot tell. Sometimes we just have to find out on our own.

  • very good information, This is exactly the kind of information i need, Will these applications work in sub zero and 100degree waether, For example, A cabin in the woods

  • Hi guys. Great video!

    I'm writing from Australia.

We dont have mylar bags here so what else can i use instead>thanks

  • I just read that if you store all purpose white flour or wheat flour in mylar bags with oxy aborbers, you are at risk for botulism. Apparently botulism is anaerobic bacteria I guess and thrives in such a conditon where the moisture content is over 5% , flour is around 12% I beileve. This is confusing. Once you think you;ve done it right, somethings else pops up.

  • Never heard that before, but WHITE FLOUR is a waste to store. Whole wheat stores better, is cheaper and much more versatile than white flour. Does better against bugs too.

  • If thats true than I got to get to learn about how to get and grind my own weat.

  • dude i started my food storage just little at a time i went to buy rice tell me why i spent 3 bucks for 2 lbs of fucking rice wtf use to get 2 lbsfor a dollar

  • hey would corn be a worthy thing to store? being dear season you can get corn like $5 for a 50# bag. what do you guys at PAW say? thanks

  • is that corn rated for human consumption? some GM corn is not, because of things they put into the corn DNA.

  • i don't know dude its 6 buck a bag deer corn it looks like regular field corn.

  • Depends on where you get it and the quality. Some "cheap" corn we have seen has been awesome, some of the more expensive stuff has been near disgusting... "Dave in Idaho"

  • ok thanks . its just deer corn lol. from wal mart.

  • are you still finding 50# of rice for 15 bucks? i can only find 25# for 12 or so...thanks for any help and great vids

  • Sams is still hovering around the 15-22$ mark per 50 lbs last i checked onilne.

  • Well I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that something huge is about to hit. Even my dogs are acting funny, like they do before a big storm.

  • This is a great video, and it answered many questions I have had. Thank you!

  • Yawn. Thats sad,it really is. Im sure you could do better than that. I just read your channel. What a bunch of uneducated leftist crap! Ohh the big bad hunters, not doing anything for the environment...ban them all. Do some research instead of soaking in a patchuli bath you stupid hippy. Hunting collects more revenue for wildlife conservation, green ways and management areas than peta and the humane society combined. Sorry thats FACT.

  • So next time a quake rocks ole San Fran fagville, and that freezer doesn't work and your sitting in a FEMA hand out line get back to us. Matter of fact do not. I have no tolerance for those who wish to be nothing more than leeches on the tit of society . Sorry to inform you as well we are not in Idaho. Hows that living "green" deal going miss hippytard? That's right, no one out there does do they. It must be easier to wear a Che shirt and cry about Bush than to live like you preach!

  • Without electricity, that freezer of yours will be completely worthless. We are due for a massive collapse. If the banks close, you will not be able to pay your electric bills. There is very little time. I am a proud hippy who has very little in common with these folks. The dollar collapse will effect everyone no matter where you live. Get your head out of your ass, please, for your own sake.

  • ICK,Good for you bro! MY family is in the same boat as you. They moved out of the cities and started to farm, cook on wood stoves to be more self reliant. Instead of waiting for someone to help them unlike all of their liberal, tree hugging ,PETA type friends. They and many like them and you are practicing what you preach. Keep it up!

(sorry for the hippy flame,,,it just annoyed the hell outta me)

  • @InvisibleCloudKing Youtube has once again changed the format of comments, etc. so it's hard to tell who you are responding to. Who said storing food in a freezer was a good idea for preparedness?

  • @SurvivalReport It was some troll. The comment may have been deleted. I think a lot of people know in their gut that something is up but are too dependent on the system to do anything to protect themselves. Lindsey Williams said about a year ago that we had two years to prepare for the big collapse. They will keep us distracted with things like 3d tv.

  • tell us that after the dollar crashes. lol

Its all over the news. Its goona make the depression look like a holiday.

  • Awesome, thank you!

  • What wrong with canned food? I sorta missed the point of this video..

  • We bought some of the small oxygen absorbers. When they are left out in the air for several minutes they begin to get warm, then hot.. As soon as I seal them back into a jar for storage they cool off. Is this normal?

  • Wow, I just found out that these oxygen absorbers are not allowed to be used in the netherlands (where I live).

How am I supposed to conserve my rice now? Anyone?

  • Pack as shown, purge all the air out at the top of the bag by sealing all but a 2" or so corner, purge all the air out by pushing on the bag as you fold the corners over, then seal the last 2" of the bag. Basically same procedure we show on the videos.

  • Thank you, much appreciated!

  • I've done some food storage, and the thicker mylar is okay, but, the PET buckets, the long-chain molecules allow in, a lot a lot of water molecules, so everything spoils--I recommend AL foil, or some type of metal container.

Also, get a quality vacuum pump and hemispherical heads, or, carefully grind the welds to separate halves of torque converters, and pump a vacuum with small amount of heat--dry the food, and seal in foil, etc., . . .

  • Not allowed? How? Buy them anyways, I won't tell.

  • The Europian food commission tells us further research in food preservers is acquired before they'll give us permission to use 'em.

Though Japan and the United States are already using them for years without problems...

I guess I'll just order them anyways and hope customs office wont check the box at the airport

  • use dry ice instead, google it, actually better than o2 absorbers, replaces O2 in bucket with Nitrogen

  • watch the rest of the series,we go over the use of dry ice!

  • @TFSTrader Negative, it is not "better" than using oxygen absorbers. Look at the long term food storage RESULTS videos we made also on this channel. Some MAJOR drawbacks to using dry ice. NO professional packing house uses dry ice or DE. THAT tells you a lot. "Dave in Idaho"

  • @TFSTrader Not at all "better" than using o2 absorbers which is why NONE of the professional packing houses use dry ice. Watch the "long term storage RESULTS" videos we posted here.

  • @TFSTrader Actually, NO. CO2 is what dry ice is made of. At best, you will replace the air in the bucket with carbon dioxide, but CO2 packing is not easy, and, well, O2 absorbers are fool proof, and cheaper.

  • @MrMaypo59 What is O2 absorption? Is that the same as moisture absorption?

  • hi, i live in australia and i was wondering whether you know if the sell mylar bags over here. i've done a web search but it has no idea what i'm on about. are they under a different name over here? i could get them off the net but i was hoping totry the shops first...

  • Not 100% sure if the name is the same over there, just make sure they are food grade. Good luck and good day!

  • Hey delta69alpha I have a dozen buckets. I was wondering if you think gamma lids are worth using? The biggest concern I have is when I open the buckets up in x amount of years.. whether the food will go bad if I don't use it all and try to reseal the bucket.

  • Sorry for the stupid question, but where should I get the bulk bags of food? What do you normally get? I have about a dozen buckets saved up. Thanks for the video.

  • Sams,Costco, on line vendors.

  • honeyvillegrain(.)com

  • Hello, great videos!

Home Depot sells their buckets for 2.50 and lids for 1.00, just in case people can't find them elsewhere.

Quick question, where do you get your mylar bags and oxygen absorbers?

  • AP, i have been getting my mylar/o2's from simplerliving)dot)com.

    Thank you very much.

    Looks like a nice site...
