Listen to how John has lost his Liverpool accent ........ very little trace of it now... he is trying hard to leave his past behind him. No scouse accent at all . He is making a point ....he does not associate himself with Liverpool anymore
@hugs1705 Yeah, he sounds like someone from the Bronx - "You talkin' ta me??" WTF? sounds pretty British to me. As to Liverpool, I don't know if they have a dialect separate from the rest of England, but like I said, sounds pretty British to me.
Listening to this tonight, this is the very first time I myself ever heard John Lennon verbally acknowledge, specifically, The Hollies, who were a Manchester act showing record chart results in northern England when the Beatles were recording their first record releases.
All four Beatles could not possibly have gathered in one place at the same time after 1970. It would never have been phsically permitted. Trans-national corporate concerns had agents staked out 24/7 to prevent that., as it would have been a breach of Beatles [1062-1970] copyright. Any combination of up to 3 [three] out of 4 was permitted. And, a Lennon-McCartney song [post-1970] was equally not permitted. It was beyond the powers of any legal team to have ever unravelled this situation.
The idea that How Do You Sleep is about him is laughable. It was a very mean spirited attack on Paul. it's one thing to mock someone (a friend) it's another entirely to record it and put it on an Album. Did Paul make vague references to John on some songs? Probably. But not down right mean and ugly. It says alot about him thats for sure. A very thin skin.
@jake1052003 Paul did- listen to "Too Many People" on the Ram album- "that was your first mistake,,,you took your lucky break and broke it in two, now what can be done for you?" They both engaged in it.
@TIMPANIMAN1 True. But that is not a direct attack on John. He's not referencing Johns Work or Artistry. He's doesnt sing "Those freaks was right when they said you was THE ANTI-CHRIST!" . Too Many People... We all (beatles fans) believe it was John he was directing it to. But its vague at the most. Very non-specific. Could be anybody or nobody.
@TIMPANIMAN1 Having said that. It's very hard to say I'm sorry. He's not gonna do that in public. He said all that matters are how things were with him and Paul and he was right about that.
were can i find this entire interview,I think this is the most open interview that john has ever given .If there is any information on this please let me know.
I stumbled upon your video and very happy and almost grateful that I did. It's nice to know that things were not as tense between the Beatles as was the common notion. A Beatles Reunion would have been awesome but since it didn't, it's comforting to know, finally and definitively, that at least it could have happened. Thanks for posting.
Wow, I NEVER thought John would ever want to do a Reunion from everything I've seen and read but this was straight from the horses mouth...John would have done it in a heart beat and also him and Paul were OK and still friends. You always thing that they hated each other but deep down I'm sure they loved one another.
You know if the comments about John just being able to be himself when "She" wasn't around are true... Then I have to say I feel so sorry for what music could have happened without her presence.
@flakbac Easy to say for someone hiding in the anonymus world of the internet, where one can say anything about anyone at anytime with no consequences. Seems like maybe you are the true wimp.
There is a new project at Kickstarter(dot)com for the film "The Beatles at their Best". It focuses on the time before Ringo joined. According to John Lennon, this is when the Beatles were at their best. There is also a trailer on YouTube.
I have seen Paul McCartney twice now in concert. Best concerts I have ever been too. In both those concerts, Paul sang twice in rememberance of John. And afterwards, the man was crying. He loved John, and vice versa. RIP john!
John goives a long winded answer ...but you can tell at 02.13 from his facial expression that he does regret slamming Paul in the song How do you Sleep....
wow nice to see him so relaxed in this interview. i always think of him as being so bitter and negative in the late sixties and seventies. about the same time he started going out with she who's name must not be spoken
there was an interview where john commented that he didnt like Georges album but thought he had a good one in him. i cant find the interview and i wanted to kno which album he was referring to. any help would be appreciated
He seems so at peace with himself in this video.. Time heals all. I love all of their music and what they represented, but they gave us enough to enjoy and went out on high note with their last recorded lp as a band. That being Abbey Road. Anything after that that didn't measure up would have have put a huge dent in their legacy.
@mitohuffman Toot and Snore is real, but they couldn't find anyone to produce it (which is surprising, considering their identities) so it was never released. Then the bootleg came 'round.
I love this... so honest. His buddies all say he was like this in 1980. This was John from this point on; it's sad the world never got to see more of it. He had no idea how little time he had left to project himself.
@EddieVHRocks5150 Aside from a couple of drunken nights in LA, John blossomed when he wasn't with Yoko. He was out there in the world and not hiding in the Dakota with her.
@ihatecolereynolds When you say "Paul met George before John", do you mean Paul met George before he met John or do you mean Paul met George before John met george.
Without Yoko sitting next to him he's not angry, defensive, agressive, cynical, sarcastic, weird, negative, argumentative, moody, dark, complex, cruel, etc. He's just John.
@kfsfkakf i respect your passion for John Lennon's music....but John would be the first to say Paul was his equal as a writer and musician ... He said he could hear Paul's talent the first moments he heard him play...

God, you guys realize this is May Pang's time. Then, Morticia Sama pulls the oldest trick IN THE BOOK (gets pregnant) and John goes into seclusion for 5 years! No kidding George could NOT swallow the tart.
@10995 you're absolutely right. It would have been a big eye opener for john and the other 3. I definitely think they would have gotten together after that. Unfortunetly that will never happen now :(
@Pagra101 Interesting, I've never heard that, where did you read it? (btw, not doubting, I just really want to read more). What a shame that the chance for that was taken away. John's death was so tragic. On the other hand, I wonder if they'd have been able to recapture what they had in the 60's.
Everyone knew Ringo went through a hard time, being a little bit retarded, so John's happy for him doing well.
