Did Eddie redo the vocal for this more recently? Like in 2009? He sounds good, but I have an alternate mix with a totally different vocal take, some more harmonies and other vocals in the chorus, and this incredible scream in the final chorus that is nowhere on this version. It's so much better than what's here, shame squabbling caused not one, but two compromised versions to be released.

Technically ,the "old version" in 1991 does have the singing. It is the Lost Dogs version in 2002 that does not. Now this version has the singing also, but the lyrics are different from the 1991 version.
I prefer the line "And my big brother come put the blame on me, yeah" in the old, rather than "And big brother, brother try to put the blame on me" in this one. Yet, I prefer the "Oh, little sister" in this version to the "Oh, and he's pushin'" in the old version. Except for the part where he says "Oh, and I'm pushin', if I could get above" in the original take. That part gives me chills
Also, when the "In my mind there's a clearing.." part starts, I prefer the old take's lyrics.

This version is not very good, the unreleased outtake version or the live 1990 offramp version of "Brother" are much better.
PJ's last good album they had was Yield. Vedder needs to be the only one writing lyrics and hang up the guitar. Pearl Jam was best when he was just the singer and lyricist, now they have started to sound like a drunk rock band.
I am still a big fan, but Vedder don't belt out his voice like he used to.
Probably someone saying they were sad MJ was dead, and then people started fighting over who was better. I commented to explain why their fighting was pointless.

I hate the political activists that PJ (especially Vedder) has become.. BUT 'Ten' was a great album that will always have a lot of personal meaning to myself & lots of other PearlJam fans.. I wish they had released this back in 91, it's a great track... and you're right, all the early 90s Washington State bands did change rock. peace.

Pearl Jam is the best band ever!!! Black is still my favorite song, first Pj song i ever heard and fell in love with them, but i do like this song its not the same as their older shit but still very good....and always puts a smile on my face!

This song is SOOOO pearl jam. Listen to other bads that excist for so long. A lot changes in their song. Pearl jam just stays pearl jam. With a wicked intro like deep. And a solo that is almost not rewritable for people who play the guitar.
And ofcouse the meaning of hte songs ...

This version is not very good, the unreleased outtake version or the live 1990 offramp version of "Brother" are much better.
PJ's last good album they had was Yield. Vedder needs to be the only one writing lyrics and hang up the guitar. Pearl Jam was best when he was just the singer and lyricist, now they have started to sound like a drunk rock band.
I am still a big fan, but Vedder don't belt out his voice like he used to.

Pearl Jam is early 90s Grunge rock.
these two genres are not compareable, so don't. Each is/was great to their own genre. MJ is a horrible Grunge singer, and Pearl Jam is a horrible 80s pop group.
