FFIX was my first final fantasy game and probably the best in my opinion, it was like a story straight from the Grimms' Fairy Tales, i didn't feel the same in the following parts of the series (or any other game) and i guess it never will again...where the fuck is my psone...need to play it again
@injektileur A PSone exclusive produced by Sony on a Microsoft console? The only reason XIII and XIII-2 are on the 360 is because Microsoft bribed Square. XIII was and always will be a PS3 game at heart as it was made for PS3 (the 360 version for instance is on 3 discs since the DVD can't handle all of the technology). So why should IX come to Xbox Live. I respect the fact that you love the game, i do too, but it wouldn't make sense and Sony would be stupid to allow it.
you've got a point here. What you need to know is : I'm not a xbox fan at all. (I had a nes, snes, saturn, PSX, PS2 gamecube before)
But I think youre wrong when you talk about "bribery". S-E can't actually afford not porting the last FFs on the xbox (especially for the US market).
Yet I agree XIII was meant for the PS3. And I dont know how exclusive IX would remain in sony catalogue. But please remember FFs were also originally nintendo games.
@injektileur meh it's ur fault for switching to xbox, cuz i see no reason to go from a ps1/ps2 to xbox 360, i stayed on playstation cuz i love final fantasy, mgs, and naughty dog as a developer, but yer it's not the fact that ms bribed square i just think that midway through development they anticipated a poor reaction to ff13 so they had to release it on multiple platforms to reduce their losses as they spent 5 years developing the engine for it and making it..... cuz ffv13 is still exclusive

If FFXV is medieval like FFIX then it needs to start with this song. I really want them to return to this style of FF. Hopefully it will be the FF era we'll all return to someday.
@natqoh I also think the character development in the game was very good in some instances, but it was quite dissapointing in other instances as I think they didn't focus enough on certain characters where they focused too much on others. Story overall was good (imo) but I can see what you mean with the mini games, I didn't bother with any that I didn't have to. Tbh I think they handled mini games a lot better in VII, with the Golden Saucer.
@natqoh Yes, I did, did you read mine? I said after IX was when it started to go downhill, not IX and after. As in X and onwards. I thoroughly enjoyed IX, though overall I think the main flaw was the lack of an overall villain, seeing as though the ultimate final battle is sort of just a random boss, really, who wasn't in any other point during the game.
@skullkid325 Necron (sp?) was incredibly lame but Kuja was an absolutely immense villian for me. His effeminacy and love of language made him very different from other FF villians and i liked that. I always think of FF 9 fondly but i enjoyed 6,7, and 8 more. The vibe to IX was a lot more upbeat than say 7 or 8 which were darker, and the romance between zidanne and 'dagger' just didnt really work. That said though, great game :-)
@BOSIE321 Oh, I'm not saying it wasn't a great game. I absolutely love it (prefer it I think to VIII but VI and VII are my two favorites). But anyway, no, I'm not saying I disliked the game. I think character wise they could of gone more into certain characters backgrounds (e.g. Armarant). It is much more upbeat (imo possibly to make it more suitable for a slightly younger audience) but I don't mind that to much, I really loved the story.
@skullkid325 Steiner to, you don't actually know anything about Steiner other than he's a guard and he ends up going for Beatrix.
Villain wise I did not love Kuja, I thought he was just a tad...I dunno, fail, in comparison to some others (compare him to Sephiroth or Kefka e.g.) Necron I thought was just gay. Not really difficulty wise (though I had problems as I refused to bring any white mage character and relied solely on tents for healing wise)
@skullkid325 lol. In FFVII half the game Sephi is running away from you, the other half he's hiding out in a crater. He barely does anything in FFVII. His fanbase is, "He has white hair and a black wing and is so cool looking and has a neat boss theme".

@BOSIE321 (heh, almost done) Necrons kind of cool in a kind of ultimate destroyer kind of way but he has NO relevance to the story. I don't think he's even mentioned, he just kind of pops up as another boss for you to fight. It's not like Jenova in VII who is mentioned prior and impacts the story, he's just kind of...There.

@Crosell Well, they are all synthesized versions. I would be there is an oboe or two doing the harmony, and a flute or ocarina doing the melody, maybe. Very occasionally it sounds like a low flute comes in for one or two notes.
May have to play this again. I played it when it came out, but after all the epics before it, I was disappointed. This may be the "lost" final fantasy, in a way.

music was really the only good thing bout this game, it had a lot of promise but the story, gameplay was much more linear than the previous ones, character development was just third rate.
@natqoh Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about rofl, have you even played it ? the game was anything but linear , since after the first boss on the dark forest you have an WORLD MAP, the story was , for me,very good ( one of my top 3), and the character development was deep with the ability stones and the items for learning said abilities, synth system was great , zodiac quest was fun , and chocobo mini-game were the best in the series, so please kind sir, blow it out your ass.

"91" must have been the year you were born, given the statement. the most boring story of the series,

Im so happy to see these comments, I feel everyone hates FF9. It's my absolute favorite FF. and really one of my all time favorite games. I cried at the end. <33 Love this song and the whole sound track.
No matter how many Final Fantasies are made, FFIX will always be my #1 favorite. The fact that it was my first completed Final Fantasy game may have something to do with this, but besides that, it has such an amazing story line, characters you can easily relate to, and beautiful music. I'll never forget all the memories I've had this one game. Final Fantasy IX is extremely underrated.
i wrote a 300 word essay out for this but decidded to delete it, all i have to say is ff9 is by far the best, no matter how many people slate it, i owned all the others but he characters and storyline in ff9 are just perfection. such a beautiful game in every way, a game like this can change a person for the better. this theme means a lot to me and still makes me cry, the beginning of the best story out there which is ff9

Nostalgic as I remember watching the game's intro in disc 1. Flying airships with the game's world map in the foreground with its opacity probably decreased, spellbinding magic especially the sand of Cleyra descending in spiral and the summon of Alexander in the chaotic Alexandaria, the vanishing of Odin (of course, the Eidolon was not seen -the intro was the compilation of the game's CGIs) and all... Should watch it.

This song brings me back to several months before Hurricane Katrina. It was a simpler time, and the last years of my middle childhood.
I just re-purchased this game a few days ago. All I could do was put it into the machine and let this song wash over me for several minutes, watching the opening cinematic, before I so much as picked up the controller.
december 2000 going to kmart the day it came out so excited to jump into another great square adventure....cant believe its been almost 11 years and this game is still one of the greatest along with 7,8,10, and tactics....im sure the pre playstation final fantasies were good just never got around to playing them maybe i should....im slackin
I really love this song. The first time I heard it...I was hooked. Ever since then, I've been spending time with my violin learning this tune by ear. When I finally perfect it, I will post a video of me playing it.
this reminds me of when i was young and life was beautifull and full of hope now its hollow and pointless so the title fits hopefully i can return to that place someday
The song does not lie. I'm on my 4th play-through of the game and still finding new things. FFIX is very fun, very memorable, and quite underrated. Square did a great job bringing the franchise to its former fantasy roots at least for a time being. Anyone who hasn't played it and enjoys Final Fantasy, it's well worth your time considering the crap given to us these past few years.

I'm now an adult with a job and not granted the luxury of the time i had as a child... But you are correct that we cannot let ourselves forget who we WERE that made us who we ARE now. :)
15 minutes ago I just Finished FF9 and the end was totally awesome and touching!!! especially when Vivi reminisces about the adventure biding farewell to his friends and declaring his death but shows how grateful he is for all the things that he learned from them, when I sought the word "The End" on the screen I spent like Five min looking stun and amazed thinking how awesome this game was and I went to youtube to listen to this theme again. best game of all time!!!

No matter how many Final Fantasies are made, FFIX will always be my #1 favorite. The fact that it was my first completed Final Fantasy game may have something to do with this, but besides that, it has such an amazing story line, characters you can easily relate to, and beautiful music. I'll never forget all the memories I've had this one game. Final Fantasy IX is extremely underrated.

i wrote a 300 word essay out for this but decidded to delete it, all i have to say is ff9 is by far the best, no matter how many people slate it, i owned all the others but he characters and storyline in ff9 are just perfection. such a beautiful game in every way, a game like this can change a person for the better. this theme means a lot to me and still makes me cry, the beginning of the best story out there which is ff9

Nostalgic as I remember watching the game's intro in disc 1. Flying airships with the game's world map in the foreground with its opacity probably decreased, spellbinding magic especially the sand of Cleyra descending in spiral and the summon of Alexander in the chaotic Alexandaria, the vanishing of Odin (of course, the Eidolon was not seen -the intro was the compilation of the game's CGIs) and all... Should watch it.

This song brings me back to several months before Hurricane Katrina. It was a simpler time, and the last years of my middle childhood.
I just re-purchased this game a few days ago. All I could do was put it into the machine and let this song wash over me for several minutes, watching the opening cinematic, before I so much as picked up the controller.

The song does not lie. I'm on my 4th play-through of the game and still finding new things. FFIX is very fun, very memorable, and quite underrated. Square did a great job bringing the franchise to its former fantasy roots at least for a time being. Anyone who hasn't played it and enjoys Final Fantasy, it's well worth your time considering the crap given to us these past few years.

I'm now an adult with a job and not granted the luxury of the time i had as a child... But you are correct that we cannot let ourselves forget who we WERE that made us who we ARE now. :)

15 minutes ago I just Finished FF9 and the end was totally awesome and touching!!! especially when Vivi reminisces about the adventure biding farewell to his friends and declaring his death but shows how grateful he is for all the things that he learned from them, when I sought the word "The End" on the screen I spent like Five min looking stun and amazed thinking how awesome this game was and I went to youtube to listen to this theme again. best game of all time!!!
