That etap was from one side win of ulrich but from another side that was defeat. He could attack earlier and reach a bigger advantage in relation to Lance. Maybe not 8 second but for exammple 20-30 and then maybe Jan have been a winner of TDF
Man, look at those dopers! That's the who's who of doping there! Armstrong, Ullrich, Hamilton, Basso, Mancebo, Zubeldia, Vinokurov! In all seriousness though, that was a heck of Tour!
@davd1986 How do you think the cancer spread like wldfire through a 25 year old athlete's body to begin with? Oh well, all is good in the end for him. Cheat to win!
@kirkey99 If you got cancr you would never do sth like this and even IF he was doped, coming from a point of life at which you nearly was death to the first place in cacling. And that even 7 times in a row, that is fu***** awsome. Vive le tour
That's right, I wouldn't and I won't. I cycle to get from A to B. It's cleaner, healthier and makes sense economically. Spending 3/4 of the waking life spinning bike pedals for money and fame is just not something I want. I know I won't be able to remain motivated to continue doing something so trivial and practically useless.
If YOU are so impressed it by though, why don't you stop attacking ME, shift focus to yourself and see if YOU can do it.
@kirkey99 dumbest cunt i have seen. tell me how sometime 2 year old had cancer? what a fucking dumb cunt, implying armstrong used drugs that caused cancer.
90's and 80's Tours. Those were amazing for sure! Delgado, Fignon, Hinault, Roche, Lemond, Induráin, Chiappucci, Bugno, Rominger, Pantani... Real supermen. What a great combats at the slopes! Nowadays epic in cycling is over!
Ullrich's attack came too late, he should have followed Sastre. Ullrich was very strong in 2003, but not that brilliant like in 1997 or 1998. And even in 2001 he did a better Tour, but he rode without doping (hematocrit 42, no epo, no blood). So, in 2001 we could see the ultimate cycling machine Ullrich at 90-95% against maximum drugged Armstrong.
It's a pity that Jan's rhythm broke and he got stiff when he waited up to Luz Ardiden.
I still remember that stage. And I still cannot believe that Jean-Patrick Nazon won on Champs-Élysées. The man didn't win anything else in his career. Well, except of nailing the yellow jersey for one day in the same year.
what i would really want to see is Contador in this tour with all these greats from 2003 and see how he would do he'd probly win or atleast b on the podium
2003 was the best TdF - EVER! Such strong riders that year; so much intensity. Came across this final climb at the end of stage 13. Helmets off, game on!
but ullrich lost the tour on this stage. i sat in front of the tv and asked myself when ullrich finally starts attacking. 2km before finish was way too late.
@schweigo Right! If they had attacked Armstrong at the beginning of the mountain they could have given him a major defeat! Wino and Jan hand in hand and Armstrong would have been history after that day.
What an epic moment when Ullrich finally manages to grab some meters to Armstrong in a high mountain stage after so many years trying! I remember seeing it live : i was so petrified, i may have thought sthg like "nobody is invincible after all"
no sorry but wikipedia has right. Just take a look on the time difference between Armstrong and Ullrich in the final time trial: After 15 kilometers: 1 Ullrich 1 Armstrong a 0 After 32,5 kilometers: 1 Ullrich 2 Armstrong a 2 Ullrich won 2,84 seconds in 32,5 kilometers. How do you think he could win over 60 seconds in the last 16,5 kilometers? Very unrealistic... Without the crash, Jan would have won the TT, but Lance still the Tour!
lance has states that Contador is the best. I don't see him attacking Contador but if Wiggins attacks, Lance would have no choice but to try and stay with him possibly making it competition between him and Alberto.
@xxNaomixx09 Beloki was better in the alps, and probably just as good in the pyranees if he hadn't crashed, but ulrich was better in the time trials he would've gotten second place
@Daske4130 ME TOO, I really enjoy the 2003 tour in televition, specially the climb stages. But, PLEASE not put MUSIC, put commentaries, in english, french or whatever language, WE WANT TO SEE SPORT; NOT LISTEN MUSIC.
colombian cycling is the best. spanish sport is full of fraud. like that tennisplayer nadal who was on fuenteslist and whole spanish football team. but spanish court protects them just like they tried to protect valverde
ullrich was pretty strong in 2003 but it was mainly that amrstrong was really weak that year. If ullrich had ridden his best that year he would have won for sure.
yeah, armstrong was just weak and ullrich was a lot better than in the last few years, but the ullrich of 1997 would have beaten armstrong at every tour, just something to note ;)
absolutely, thank you very much for sharing, I do not watch this video, for music. totally unrealistic, I want to listen to the rapporteur, the public, the chain of the bike ...that is music ..
The color-coding in 2003 was perfect -- Armstrong yellow, Ullrich blue, Vinokourov pink, Basso white, Mayo orange . . . that + the lack of helmets made it incredibly watchable!
I agree with you, it was great... But in this video the Euskaltel-Euskadi rider in orange is Zubeldia, not Mayo (I'm not sure if you noticed that or not).
Blood doping was in its prominence even before Armstrong turned pro, it is not a result of him doping or not doping. The reason why cycling has such a problem is the politics behind the sport.
