Now that is my college shotgun that I hunt in West Texas with. Sure kicked less than my .20 ga Rossi youth gun. Now my normal shotgun (too nice for me to keep 400 miles away in my apartment) is a 1976 Browning B200 that my grandfather gave me (never before fired might I add) for high school graduation.

Sit them down, show them the parts and how guns work, even go as far as showing him what guns can do. You can teach safe sex to your kids and how condoms work. Do you have to let him experience it too. Thats why there is a age limit to certain things. there brain is not mature enough to understand it yet. Can a kid go in a gun store and buy one? So why can he shoot one?

@tundra12555 The best way to teach a child to learn and respect a firearm is to show the parts and how it works (as you said) THEN let them shoot, if said gun isn't so powerful it can hurt the kid (unlike this dumbass who let his son shoot a gun way too powerful for him). You can't compare firearms and sex. There is nothing wrong with letting a kid shoot a gun that's is appropriately not so powerful the recoil could put that kid on their ass.
