@Cyricc That sounds like a bug. I can assure you that under normal conditions the brush is supposed to be right under your mouse. The bug you described has been reported in the past in relation to multi-screen setups and tablets, but not recently. On what platform and when did you try it?

@Cyricc In regards to the paintbrush following a different path, this sounds like a laggy system or bad install. I have seen this before. GIMP is great, just have to learn your way around it like anything. Good luck!

@Cyricc That's a bit odd. I've never had a problem with GIMP and I'm no way an expert. If you need a simple graphics program that is above mspaint but below GIMP, try paint.net. It's free, easy, and works for simple manipulations.

@Everyone I appreciate the responses and help but all I want is a program that works with my tablet so I can draw. Photoshop worked well for 30 days, but thats some bs that they dont have a free low end version, even elements is pay-to-use. With GIMP I am still experiencing this problem as I described before, where for every 2-3 pixels I move with my mouse the brush tool only moves 1 pixel. There are 2 clearly visible screen cursors also, the brush and my mouse, gimp prob cant support tablets

@morph611 That is a feature, and quite a nice one once you get used to it. Each input device has its own settings that only that device can edit. You can set up your mouse for completely different, but the moment you grab your pen, its ready to draw, just as you left it.

hello. I'm getting kinda frustrated. i make new file with white background. i use brush with for example, blue. and i have blue pen stroke,showing that the colours work. So, new file. I upload a pencil drawing i had scanned earlier. i make new layer, transparent, and want to do the thing where you fill the layer and then change the opactiy. i select a blue. I fill with the bucket and i get a grey coulor. please help me! this totally sucks!

Actually Photoshop is about $600, the upgrade is $189 and the little brother Photoshop Elements 8 is $78. If you also decide to make tutorials like this guy, then Photoshop is even a better option, because with my Photoshop site I already made close to $19,000 (excluding the freebies I get), something that would be impossible with a Gimp site.

I actually show that in my basic Gimp tutorial.

I will explain:

In the image window, click on 'File' and 'Open...'.

There you can choose what file you want to open from your hard disk.

If you have Windows Explorer on, you can also 'drag' the image from there onto your image window.

Yes, it can do a lot. Layers, masks, transparency, histograms, color manipulation, filters, etc.

Gimp has some other functionality as Photoshop, and the other way around.

Do shall not convert to gray scale, and you can not change only one layer to RGB in a image and keep the orginal layer in gray scale.

Use saturation or any other RGB method to make the image black ande white, also use coloration or hue on a layer-copy to give the image a color tint.

the level of danger is as of yet unknown. I have heard stories of people who have downloaded gimp and several years later....died. Also, there seems to be some correlation between the number of gimp downloads and the number of shark attacks off the eastern seaboard during the months of July and november. I've also heard that a lot of people really enjoy using gimp and never suffer painful pancreatitus attacks. So use that info to make your decision. good luck.
