  • Is that Dave Mustaine, playing drums at 6:14?!

  • steve howe is technically better at the guitar i must say

  • @dwc311 thats right, Squire own YES

  • Ian Anderson - Combination of Bryan Cranston and Neil Peart.

  • Doesnt Squire himself own the YES name?

  • PLEASE, WHAT SOFT MACHNE PIECE STARTS IN 8:58

  • @Harald136 "Neo Caliban Grides". Full version of this early incarnation (later to be done more free-jazz style on Elton Dean's first solo album) is released on "Grides" (2006, Cuneiform).

  • Hoedown

  • what's the ELP song at 4:22 ??

  • @klausgroi It's "Hoe-down," a cover of an Aaron Copeland song from his ballet "Rodeo."

  • "Music, you make it for yourself and if the chap next door likes it isn't that fantastic?" Carl Palmer

  • The man in the audience at 2:33 looks an awful lot like Jimmy Page

  • God forbid that a drummer should keep TIME! Hello Carl!

  • @PeterMayer He said the drummer should not JUST keep time and i agree

  • Emerson Lake and Palmer rules

  • Van der Graaf Generator should be in this documentary

  • Ian Anderson is so right about music now - it really isn't cool to be either remotely 'rocking' onstage or play a solo: if you move around a bit or 'get into it' that's apparently 'old hat' or embarrassing and if you want to play something emotive that's 'unnecessary'.

  • @Criddington

That's right. Music ain't music without 15 minute guitar solos, knives in keyboards and compound time signatures. Woot! Excess!

  • ELP surprised me when I first heard them because I didn't know there could be something on par or even better than king crimson

  • what soft machine piece starts at 9:00?

  • What about Gentle Giant? WTF!

  • please post the missing groups

  • Where I can find the Soft Machine footage starting @9:00?

  • Carl Palmer is an amazing drummer, and whom I to disagree with him? But I think time keeping is very important. Once you get keeping time down, you can develop your style

  • Wow....Mont Campbell speaking and photos of EGG in the studio!

  • I like your video descriptions ; )

  • @Rockshift999 I'm glad someone appreciates them.

  • Long live prog rock!

  • what is thw wakeman song at 5.39 ?

  • @markix88 It's a Yes song, from the album before Wakeman joined. It's called Perpetual Change.

  • what is the song on 9:01 ?

  • Who punched Steve's front tooth out?

  • 2:52 what the song is it tull or somthing ?

  • man, Rick looks like such a nice guy!

  • It's weird how music is split into different categories nowadays - but one thing is for sure - bands like Yes and Genesis drew the same crowds as Sabbath and Zeppelin at the time - and the same people would not have crossed the road to see Soft Machine, Egg or Hatfield and the North - not in Newcastle anyway - I saw all three bands play to a lukewarm response - whereas the others were treated like heroes.

  • @NeilThompson30 totally agree. while sabbath became sth different I'd agree I'd have seen them as prog early on at least. but yeah - i'd have happily gone to see yes or genesis or led zep (only in fact saw genesis, but was into them all). but i was v young when they were about ... and soft machine were never so big...I was never really aware of them. in a similar way i remember a few people went to see gentle giant, for example, but most people, self included , hadn't really head their stuff.

  • = ELP! I love whan he says it! :D

  • HELP: Hendrix, Emeson, Lake & Palmer. Imagine?

  • Wouldn't Bowie be considered somewhat progressive during this time? Man Who Sold the World didn't have the technical skill of Yes or Genesis but it was definitely kind of prog, as was a lot of his later work

  • @TheGreaterGood80 It's Prog Related, indeed. But not Prog.

  • 02.47 go on stevie..!!!

  • I love Wakemans' description of YES

  • Wat elp song at 4.20 ..?? Anyone :D

  • @MrGallaghers Hoedown

  • @PsychadelicRockman Cheers man :D

  • @MrGallaghers: it's "Hoedown" from the album Trilogy. It's an adaptation of an Aaron Copland orchestral piece.

  • Keith must have gotten pissed because the Hammond wouldn't stay in tune. ;)

  • @dharmaseed He'll probably go mad and stab it!! ;)

  • prog bands make the best acoustic guitar songs, Horizons is a perfect example of this

  • @1994AlmostSkater Absolutely right, the best acoustic guitar work ever is on prog rock's Yes, Genesis and Crimson

  • What's the Genesis song at 1:47?

  • @metalheadnick555 White Mountain from the Stagnation album

  • @mvd191 Better known as Trespass.

  • What's the Soft Machine piece at around 9:28?

  • whats the song at the start??

  • Horizons, by Genesis.

You can find it on the Foxtrot album.

  • what is the song playing at 5:03?

  • It's called "Hoedown (Taken from 'Rodeo')" by Emerson, Lake & Palmer. You might recognize the melody from the "Beef: It's What's for Dinner" campaign.

  • aHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...GENESIS.

  • Thanks for posting this. There is so nice to say that I will forgive them the obvious exclusions.

  • I know people will be wondering, so, the song playing at the beginning of this video is Horizons by Genesis.

  • @Ponimaju Yeah, I though "WTF?!, that's Genesis not Yes!" Thanks anyway :D

  • my guess is if your watching this u know..

  • Thanks. I never realized how good of a piece it was... I'm thinking of trying to learn it now

  • @Ponimaju There was me thinking it was JS Bach lute music.
