god this was hot! seeing Juliette look all cute and innocent when he asks to put his arm around her...and when she sucks on his thumb and kisses him...just all around hot!
This is beyond creepy...yet I'm totally engulfed in Max....Damn this killer is smart...course all of the are usually good at getting their pray in their grasp. Robert Di Nero did fantastic in this part. Creepy, wrong but fantastic.
I generally don't like Juliette Lewis, but I always thought she did a really good job of showing all the emotions a teenager would have here: turned on, curious, embarassed, confused, scared.
@Chilean88 im sure she was 18..yeah she was like 16 in the movie but im sure she was 18 in real life....DeNiro would get in trouble for doing that to a child..its illegal and i doubt they would allow a girl younger than 18 to do that scene
The part that is so scary about this scene is how real it is: I cant' tell you the number of times I've seen a really decent and innocent girl or woman get lured in by a sleazeball who says all the right lines.
Does anyone else think that, while the acting is certainly goot in its own way, this scene relies way too much on cliché imagery and character stereotypes? I mean, the girl's in a white night-gown or something, and de Niro wears red and black... wow, subtle. Then, does Juliette wear braces or something? At any rate, she way overdoes the "cute innocent shy girl" schtick and kinda comes off as younger than she looks. I couldn't help myself but be reminded of introduction dialogues to porn videos..
... about "teacher and student" or "MILF on unexperienced teen" or anything of that sort. Then, De Niro... well... most of the time I have the impression that he's just playing multiple versions of his distinctive self.
Yea, he's got that southern accent down and all, but that permanent head and other mannerisms tilt gives him away. I just can't, can't take this scene any seriously.
Then there's the idiotic fight scene at the end where the thug's holding a stick in his hand and yet just...
The scene may be "great" in terms of acting and cinematography, but the way he fight goes down is extremely implausible and ridiculous - they aren't dancing around with shades and kung-fu kicks, and yet it's none more believable.
I don't know why I should "show respect" for that - I really love how you just make up a reason for me to complain about this scene, without really knowing anything about it ;)
Oh wait, we're talkng about this scene, right... well, yea, as I said, the way both act here takes me out of the scene, for reasons I specified. You, on the contrary, haven't specified any reasons, all you're doing is acting defensive and tossing insults. So who's being "pointless" here?
@twooffour it's a school dress= completely common. Strange how anyone needs to project a 'nightgown' on the girl. 'A man sees what he wants to see and disregards the rest'
I know it's a "school dress", or in fact, pretty much just common day clothing. You dumbass. A nightgown is much uglier.
I'm talking about the IMAGERY. White, innocent, vulnerable, whatever - de Niro's all infernal devil. Did the scene really NEED that? Just distracts me from the acting if anything.
Apart from the pedophile kidding part, this movie "fails" because that's what max Cady should have done. Wait for 3 or 4 years , then start a legitimate relationship with Danielle.NOW THAT WOULD PISS THE COUNSELOR OFF!!!
They are both BRILLIANT here. They were both nominated for Oscars for their roles in this film, and I've always believed it was mainly because of THIS SCENE alone.
Can anybody find this whole scene? From when she come into the theater? I wanna hear him say 'for a crime that isn't even a crime - smoking grass'. Hilarious.
@MeXLuffy Yeah it was quite annoying. If she were a bit less stupid, her role here could have elevated Juliette Lewis to a higher level much faster.... that's just what i think.
Fuck that was sexy...

I really hope Juliette Lewis was at least 18 years old when this was filmed.... otherwise that was just disturbing and wrong....

@cpufightclub I'm saying I hope she was at least 18 otherwise Robert Deniro who was probably in his 40's or 50's here was making out with a child!!

stands around for several seconds to let de Niro headbutt him into oblivion. Really?
I've seen only two scenes of this movie so far, but could it be that the impression it makes on me as being laughably silly, is actually correct?
