The amazingly wise and deep words? The incredible soothing and sexy voice of Leonard? The fantastic artistic presentation of this video? The bittersweet spirit that defines this song, and that applies to real life in so many ways? The gorgeous co singers that you can't get your eyes or ears off? Or the 'I loved you for your beauty, but that doesn't make a fool of me,you were in it for your beauty too..' that he says with a smile,a line that means SO much?I don't know what i love more about this song
@coifgx Yeah I think I missed your point. I thought you were saying semisonic had done a cover of Cohens closing time, obviously they havnt. I still cant see your point though. :)
i just can't get enough of Leonard Cohen. But I love the Lisadell 31 July version. We were all with him totally, He's just so charismatic. I still cry when I watch him skip off the stage, i don't know why, he just gets to me. I don't need any other music. And the words, no one else could do it. Everyone else pales into insignifance compared..He's just a genius. the best.
Mr. Cohen, it always takes me a while before I can decypher the messages in many of your songs. I think I finally got this one, and yeah... yer right. So eloquently you put it. Moving on is something in between freedom and death. Well done, again, sir.
dont make em like this anymore, where has the substance gone in music today.....o wait ...when media tells you that something is good ..it has to mean it rite! damn, music isnt food for the soul any more , its just a way for people to get rich off the poor saps who buy the crap they shove down our throats! o well at least we have some great music to look back on....lets hope we have some to look foward to!
@rockerman443 Damn right... Everything seams to be about "gangsta", or sex... I hate all the music videos which show the big parties, and make girls look like objects... The songs just have no depth at all. They just go over my head... Not like this, This is brilliant... I think the current music industry is hideously misrepresenting young people (17) like myself who prefer this to the spew in the charts today. Went to see Leonard two nights ago - simply magical stuff.
@Upasionat I soo agree. I only "discovered" Leonard Cohen about two years ago so I know what you mean, but heh it's really brightening up my latter years (I'm 59). And there is so much to still discover. He is a genius at lyrics.
There's simply no one like him. But the people in his field are few. Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, the storytellers, the poets, those who could match word to music to meaning.... FEW and far between.
@moishefriedman Indeed man. Listening to his songs this evening, with a glass of wine, thinking about the woman with whom I have shared these songs, who has told me this evening she is in love with another. That's alright.
What a rock solid performer! Cohen's voice flows like smoke, smooth and strong; his persona immoveable int he midst of passion and disappointment. Amazing!
when i was 19-20 i didnt understand him at all, just today i said let me look him up, just in 4 years how i appreciate his words an music it makes my heart sink inside such depth Im glad now to listen to this song, and dance me to the end of love going to listen to more
I just recently discovered him. Was searching for K.D. Lang and her singing Hallelujah. Came across Leonard and started watching his videos. Now I can say I hooked. Wow....I am a fan of music of all types and can't believe I missed him all these years. Better late than never.....Such great music.
He has a voice that is both comforting and sensual at once! Leonard is one of the few artists in the world who is not looking for fame or money, but to simply to share his gift.
My ex-neighbour in MTL, quality man. The lyric "The Johnny Walker wisdom's running high" sums up the pointless debates that take place around tables in pubs and bars everywhere
