I used to get broadcasts like this in Vegas all the time because they felt the need to test it two or three times a month.

The sound doesn't really scare me anymore, just pisses me off. XD

It does remind me of my old alarm clock though, (Y'know, the obnoxious buzzing digital clock ) which ALWAYS scared the crap out of me to the point where my body trained itself to wake up minutes before the alarm went off.

Either way, it must've been damn scary to get a broadcast like this back then.

One very similar to this was broadcasted during the Loma Prieta earthquake that hit northern California in 1989, I was just getting ready to go home from baby sitting my nephew when the first quake hit. the tv was on a local network and almost instantly the network put up a test pattern and announced the earthquake and that it was not a test. Yes that was scary!

@fhood it was made back in the 50s as part of the american brodcast system and the four corners have numbers in them, with the whole thing having shapes and lines. the indian head is to make out a reconizable figure to make sure your TV is showing a clear picture, thats what the whole thing is for
