The UK should really adopt a proportional voting system. The split left vote unfortunately allowed the Tories to come through the middle for far too long.

This wasn't actually her last performance as PM. her last was on the 27th, where she was wearing a black suit with white "trim". It's on the panel on the right.

Thank you so very much thatcheritescot for uploading a whole host of Thatcher related videos, it's a pleasure to watch them all!
OK I have to disagree with the CND thing. Might have been good then but I'm fully for Nuclear disarming and an end to ALL war and have supposedly intelligent, civilised human beings resolve issues in a civiled, intelligent way.
agression , as we have seen historically, just leads to more agression.
@thatcheritescot That's because she was smarter. And I am not sure which Bush you mean, but it's true for both, and Especially W.
Our current GOP are too caught up in silly Protestant fundamentalism, taking away suffrage, buoying old tech and quashing new industry to do so, and handing gov't influence over to the greedy.
I fear both Reagan and Thatcher wouldn't pass the current litmus test of the American Republican party.
BRAVO MRS T!! I am not joking when I say I have a tear in my eye. Anyone since Mrs T has been a spineless goon willing to remove all power from us to Europe.. The only female PM has had a proper set of nads to deal with ANYTHING. Ever since - all our PMs seem to apologetic spineless aresholes?? Is this what we want? Over-run with charver scum parasites and immigrants. I'm emigrating. MT must be a bitter sour woman - and NOT without good reason. Labour have deconstructed everything positive
It is true that Labour did a lot of ill, but we can't say that we're not used to that.. I mean, in the70's they had to ask the IMF for help! I don't understand why people don't remember this, and now it might be happening again with the high governmental debts.
Still the least we could thank them for is not bringing us into the Euro. Personally, I'm very grim about the Euro's prospects.. many southern EMU countries have accumulated huge debts
There is a saying in politics that you can always rely on. 'Labout always run out of Money'. Wilson, Callaghan, Brown, take whoever. They can't help but fatten up the public sector and dampen enterprise. The tax take therefore always, always falls.

You're completely right, if you want an example, of course, the Falklands war was completely by the book. In many ways the government back then was more reluctant about an invasion than the current lot.
@autofreak7 I couldnt agree more. Socialists like to portray Thatcher as a warmonger. But she went to war twice - the Falklands and the first gulf war, which both of them had U.N. International backing. She was very concerned about international law, thats why she criticised Reagan's Grenada Invasion and initially on Libya. Tony Blair on the other hand thought he was some white knight in shining armour and felt he was above UN Law.
if she is so good how come she had the country in riots ? Riots not discontent but violent clashes with police? is that good ? if so you shouldnt be in power for obvious reasons

I never fell under Obama's charms... he's utterly disingenuous to me.. so i guess it depends on what the standard of measure is.
Technical ability to articulate words of the English language? Or being a sincere and forthcoming politician.
Obama is brittle, equivocal , and lawyerly in his use of ambiguous white-noise.. I think that would be old after a few times up to bat. He cannot stand being criticized.
Seems to me people like that wouldn't do well in the Parliament.
@VinceP1974 Thatcher is on a completely different level to Obama, the two can't even be compared. Obama sounds like a complete idiot and liar when he speaks and has no idea about monetary policy. All he does is redistribute wealth and brainwash his own people by telling them to spend more on their credit cards. Such a shame they all listen to him.
@VinceP1974 And so he should be with these Republican whackos. In fact, I want him to be a lot angrier with this unspeakable alcoholic Speaker and the rest of the Republican clown parade.
I did not vote for the major parties. I just could not bring myself to do it. I voted for Al-Qaeda Operative Al Gore and War Criminal John Kerry, but I just couldn't vote for democrat this time. I certainly wasn't going to vote for some Fascist republican pig either. I voted US Socialist Workers party instead. Looking back on it, i'm actually quite proud of my vote. Democrats are a rather feckless, supine group of people anyway.
Obama can't really turn a phrase without it sounding stilted. Bernie Sanders on the other hand, often times, does indeed wipe the floor with people like orrin hatch, nancy pelosi, john mccain, maxine waters, barney frank, etc.
Yes thats also true, but some 150 backbench Tory MPs also stabbed her right in the back. If these Tory MPs showed some backbone and supported Mrs Thatcher, the cabinet wouldn't have disposed of her in the way that they did.
Unfortunately I believe it would have ended with her losing her fourth election, but it would still have been better to bow out that way than the way she did.
He did win narrowly but in part because he offered a fresh face, new ideas and a willingness to reverse some mistakes such as immediately dismantling the poll tax.
A bit, though Kinnock himself has said to his biographers that he felt Major replacing Thatcher seriously dented the momentum of "time for a change". And whilst getting rid of the poll tax alone didn't win the election for Major, keeping it in place would have made victory impossible.
I know I posted on here before. Watching this speech again, she really did have the commons in the palm of her hand. By the time she finished her speech, she clearly dominated the house. All those spineless Tory MPs on the back benches cheering for her at the end... I bet now they regret the fact that they disposed of perhaps the greatest post-war primeminister this country has ever seen.
Whether you agree or disagree with her policies, you have to admire the way she defends her policies vehemently, in a way today's politicians could only dream of.
are u serious? iv not met anyone who seriously thinks the torys will lose the next election? if u really think that then u dont understand politics very well
She was in fine form here - and watching this makes me realise how dumbed down debates in the House of Commons are now. We shall never see her like again, she is worth ten of David Cameron!
''Cancel your resignation, You can wipe the floor with those people''
I couldnt agree with that tory MP more! She could wipe the floor with the whole of this hopeless Labour government, David Cameron's ''conservatives'' and lib dems put together
Tell it like it is Maggie! It wasn't CND, a nuclear-free Labour Party or the left that destroyed the Berlin Wall, it was a strong alliance between Ron reagan and Her Majesty Maggie Thatcher - if only we could have them now.

If you mean her legacy of cut throat capitalism anti society, close minded antiart egotistical governing sucking USA cock, I am rather disapointed. But in reply to your other message, that she crushed what you assume to be "my values" 20 years ago, you're completely and utterly wrong. the goverment is still fucked, congrats, but most people have thier head and heart in the right place, IE not up Maggies emaciated and oh-dear-losing-her-marbles-a-bit-isnt-she arse.

VinceP1974 2 years ago 29
@VinceP1974 Thatcher is on a completely different level to Obama, the two can't even be compared. Obama sounds like a complete idiot and liar when he speaks and has no idea about monetary policy. All he does is redistribute wealth and brainwash his own people by telling them to spend more on their credit cards. Such a shame they all listen to him.
lightlighttight 1 year ago

Bernie Sanders for President!!!

It was not the back bench MP's whom 'got rid of her' it was those sitting beside her, her cabinet.
Laytonia1977 2 years ago 10
i agree.... it was the cabinet. spineless bunch
thatcheritescot 2 years ago
Yes thats also true, but some 150 backbench Tory MPs also stabbed her right in the back. If these Tory MPs showed some backbone and supported Mrs Thatcher, the cabinet wouldn't have disposed of her in the way that they did.
blatantboy86 2 years ago 11
u have a point. there were far too many torys who didnt realise how good they had it under thatcher!
thatcheritescot 2 years ago
Unfortunately I believe it would have ended with her losing her fourth election, but it would still have been better to bow out that way than the way she did.
gregorioallegri 2 years ago 6
i dont think she would have lost.... i mean just look at what happened. john major won. if he could win then so could thatcher. easy!
thatcheritescot 2 years ago
He did win narrowly but in part because he offered a fresh face, new ideas and a willingness to reverse some mistakes such as immediately dismantling the poll tax.
timrollpickering 2 years ago
I think that wasn't the primary reason for his victory though. He won because people didn't trust Kinnock (for good reasons...)
autofreak7 2 years ago 10
A bit, though Kinnock himself has said to his biographers that he felt Major replacing Thatcher seriously dented the momentum of "time for a change". And whilst getting rid of the poll tax alone didn't win the election for Major, keeping it in place would have made victory impossible.

I know I posted on here before. Watching this speech again, she really did have the commons in the palm of her hand. By the time she finished her speech, she clearly dominated the house. All those spineless Tory MPs on the back benches cheering for her at the end... I bet now they regret the fact that they disposed of perhaps the greatest post-war primeminister this country has ever seen.
blatantboy86 2 years ago 11
i think even her main opponents in the tory party mostly all now agree it was a disaster to get rid of her in the way they did.....

I thank you for these videos.
Truly an amazing woman, makes me proud to be a Conservative.

me thinks u r the one who looks like a horse eating its face. sour grapes does your face no good!

Whether you agree or disagree with her policies, you have to admire the way she defends her policies vehemently, in a way today's politicians could only dream of.

Bloody brilliant - this has got me in a good mood for the weekend - not long now till Gordon and the rest of his shower are booted out
jdfrusher 2 years ago 12
the only reason gordon is still there is because no one wants his job because they know they will lose badly.... i cant wait.

Prepare for an election defeat even bigger than the one in 1997!
AidanLunn 2 years ago 12
are u serious? iv not met anyone who seriously thinks the torys will lose the next election? if u really think that then u dont understand politics very well
thatcheritescot 2 years ago
No no no. I mean the Tory majority at the next election will be bigger than the Labour majority of May 1997.
AidanLunn 2 years ago 11
ah i see what u mean.... yes i think that is going to happen

Jedi Mind Trick at 8:21!
Also, I much prefer her term "Pecularly Evil Weapons" to the more clinical "Weapons of Mass Destruction"

This was as much a Masterclass in political oratory as it was a outstanding political and economic history lesson over the previous 11.5 years

i hope we see her like again.... somehow i doubt it
thatcheritescot 2 years ago
She was in fine form here - and watching this makes me realise how dumbed down debates in the House of Commons are now. We shall never see her like again, she is worth ten of David Cameron!
morgansifer82 2 years ago 16
she is worth 10 of brown blair and every other politician in todays world

''Cancel your resignation, You can wipe the floor with those people''
I couldnt agree with that tory MP more! She could wipe the floor with the whole of this hopeless Labour government, David Cameron's ''conservatives'' and lib dems put together

its a shame people have to get old or she would have made a comeback by now

Tell it like it is Maggie! It wasn't CND, a nuclear-free Labour Party or the left that destroyed the Berlin Wall, it was a strong alliance between Ron reagan and Her Majesty Maggie Thatcher - if only we could have them now.

yes lol u sound intelligent
If you mean her legacy of cut throat capitalism anti society, close minded antiart egotistical governing sucking USA cock, I am rather disapointed. But in reply to your other message, that she crushed what you assume to be "my values" 20 years ago, you're completely and utterly wrong. the goverment is still fucked, congrats, but most people have thier head and heart in the right place, IE not up Maggies emaciated and oh-dear-losing-her-marbles-a-bit-isnt-she arse.

Well to be honest I dont think you can really seperate political views from views on humanity and philosophy so i dont think 500 characters and any less that about 2 years is going to enlighten you much as to that
superiourcowies 3 years ago
i actually agree with most of that..... if u want to send me a private message so u can go into it in depth i will b happy to hear it and i will also try to b fair
