  • dont sound like what i know as the ballydesmond polka, but holly shit that sounds good. love the fullnes and simplicity of the the sound well done man.

  • what is the sawmill tuning?

  • It is the same as modal tuning. It is not tune in major nor minor. You get a cool kind of "sad" sound which was often used in the old church scales. (Dorian, Myxolydian and Aolean) To get the banjo in g modal (sawmill) you only need to tune the b string up to a c. gDGCD instead of the normal G which is gDGBD.

  • Thanks! It is played using the clawhammer or frailing style. It ads a nice rythm feeling to the tunes. I have tried the tenor banjo but I really suck on any kind of plektrum based instrument :( I would really love to hear your tenor banjo version of this tune! Any video of it available?

  • i play this on me tenor banjo..love ur style

  • Thanks! I know a few more similar polkas but I have problems learning them on the banjo :( I might upload Tin whistle versions later on though as I know that instrument a bit better.

  • Another good one....great sound....thanks...
