  • 20 minutes to download a SNES game. Lol, vintage internet.

  • tweakguides has an awesome article concerning piracy... 6 pages long, but a great read, lots of hard data was researched for said article.

  • I dont support neither i am against piracy, i respect the role it plays in the gaming industry, cause it is one of the things that forces (some) developers to inovate and improve theyr games.

  • If it wasnt for piracy, if all developers would get all the money, i guess we would see more franchises like Call of duty, with an every month release of the same load of crap.

And my thoughts about why consoles sell more legit?

I would almost say for sure that most console gamers are (kids) who do not have to work to buy theyr games, they just have to cry for theyr parents to buy them.

  • @STALKERX9 just because they release COD more frequent doesn't mean people will automatically buys it. Also,COD is a console port so most of their sale would prolly be from console in the first place. Console has more legit players because its way harder to actually pirate a game and there are risk involve. You can get permanently ban from SONY or MICROSOFT online service ..which pretty much kill your system. Piracy isn't innovating game its just forcing developer to switch to console

  • but dam he paid 500bucks for that device?! what a rip! u could prob buy every snes game for that back then

  • i know a guy who is a video game developer and pirates games

  • the truth about piracy is that is an ilegal and destructive activity that hurts a few and makes happy thousands of millions

  • and then jimmy got nicked

  • Dave Perry, irrelevant since 1996.

  • if they added up the money they "lost" they would find out that thepiratebay owes them more money than there physically exists on earth.

  • Losses of 45 billions in the 90's and Nintendo is still in business? I'm impressed.

  • LONG LIVE JEFF O'CONNELL!

  • Crap i need some floppy disk now

  • I only pirate games if I can't afford them.

Games are a luxury in eastern europe.

  • Hay, that is the exact game copier I have for my SNES.

  • Developers are wrong they need to change hardver and main os on pc so it recognise only original stuff but that will need a lot of money and will from ati nvidia intel amd and microsoft . How consoles recognise only originals and they need chip to work with copies?(or they dont like pc as gaming platform and they want something to profe with this) there is alveys someone that will make super pc games for fun and we will respect them because pc gamers are real gamers. there is third option cut pr

  • downloading PC games will ruin the PC gaming industry.

    End of story.

  • @bugkidd

You are an idiot. PC gaming piracy has been going on for 10 years and I see no decrease in PC game development. There are more PC titles this year alone than all the consoles combined. The only sad thing in PC gaming is DRM and that screws the paying customers the most than the ones who download them.

  • @conyo985

Yeah, you see no decrease. Because your head is to deep up your own ass to see it.

PC game sales are on the decline big time, you can look it up on Google easily, with multiple topics/articles all agreeing PC game sales are on the all time low.

"There are more PC titles this year alone than all the consoles combined"

Right, more shit being pulled out of your ass except your own head again.

Console sales on games are doubling the PC sales, - source VG charts.

  • @conyo985

And I've seen Crysis Torrents with OVER 20,000 SEEDS.

And all the PC community wonder why Crysis 2 is going to consoles. Derp.

  • @s0nic777 All 3 current gen consoles have been hacked. The PS3 and Wii are the easiest to hack. So it doesn't really matter whether they move to consoles or not.

  • Hell, wish I had a Super Magicom...

You know, a chipped XBOX running emulators is awesome too, but I'd love to use an actual SNES controller. :(

  • If these games didn't cost a arm and a leg, then less people probably wouldn't be forced to pirate

Its easier to pirate hand-held games then console games

If you download games and are worried about getting caught, just use proxy servers like safe proxy

  • so piracy is ilegal but the device to comit piracy is legal. thats like saying heres a gun and amo but dont shoot it or heres weed and a bong but just dont smoke it. wtf

  • LOL, it took 20 minutes to download the contents of 1 floppy disk!

  • but alot of the pirated games in asia are just games exept there replaced by other models(expecilly mario)...

  • power to Video Game Piracy

  • @Logan800 Yeah! Fight the machine hahaha :)

  • dont copy that floppy ^_^

  • $500 to play pirated snes games! Bullshit! These days you could play them on your DS R4 and pirate it on the wii homebrew

  • Games should last forever and I believe that if they are incredibly hard to come by or should I say "buy", then they should be freely available for those curious about the past generations of game consoles. I haven't got all the SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis) or Playstation 1 games and I can't find the ones I am looking for anywhere to buy, the only option I have is to download the ROMs and play them on the emulator, but seeing as I don't have the original product I would be breaking the law :(

  • Is downloading a game from the internet or from a torrent could put you in jail? please answer...

  • not really as long as you're not stupid enough to expose yourself, besides if they're old games it shouldnt really matter

  • @80VideosMan08 depends on where you are also,Ive been living in Scandinavia the latter part of my life..and even the police dont give a flying **** about "something as trivial as internet piracy" Ive seen computers with hardrives full of thousands of dollars worth of games/music etc seized in a drug bust and then returned with everything of the former intact without anyone raising an eyebrow..only place I ever have gotten some flak in real life fopr piracy was in a game/record store when (cont)

  • @80VideosMan08 (cont) and a friend were discussing piracy in the line while buying a game(yeah go figure) and the man working behind the counter kinda snapped back at us"this talk aint allowed in this store" we just kinda laughed him off..kinda illustrated to me how afraid everyone in the industry is of this "monster" while regular people really couldnt care less..

  • @KINGKENNYTHEHOLY I think the Piracy they are talking about is the one where they sell counterfeit or fake shit trying to pass it as the real thing, now that is piracy to me. I the case of music and, when they actually make copies with fake cases and shit and go and sell those on the street for a profit. But fucken music downloaded from the internet or games or movies no...nobody pays shit for those.

  • @Cpillin425 most people in Mexico think a pirate is the person selling fake shit on the street, trying to pass it as the real thing. They call that kind of stuff "fayuca," meaning "fake." like selling fake gucci bags, or ray bans, or nike shoes, or fake rolexes.

  • I a shure thats an lc 575

  • 20 mins for 1 .smc file. damn.

  • @illuminatioracle

    It was 1995 man lol

  • @illuminatioracle i know right

  • Playing console video games on a computer?

we have something like that these days,

    they're called emulators!

  • DS is the ultimate free games system

all you need is the card and sd card

the psp is a bit harder but still easy

    thats why piracy happens

  • you n33d @c3k@rd if y0ur 0n D5I.

  • i didnt buy the dsl because it sucks

  • if only the worse of my worries where multi-million dollar companys loseing money, only in a perfect world....anyway sorry if i don't shead a tear, but those company presidents are set for life and im struggling to get by so...yeah.

  • Statistics are always flawed. As the person below my said, there has and will always be a fraction of people who wouldn't have bought the game anyway. Those people can't contribute to estimated amount lost due to piracy.

  • One downloaded copy doesn't necessarily make the company lose money. Some games that I have downloaded, I wouldn't have bought if I couldn't DL it.

  • You say 'I'll just make a copy, for me and a friend'

Then he'll make one and she'll make one and where will it end?

One leads to another then ten, then more,

And no one buys anything from the store

So no one gets paid and they can't make more

The posse breaks up and they close the door

Don't copy! Don't copy that floppy!

  • No Carmen Sandiego, no more Oregon Trail

Tetris and the others, they're all gonna fail

Not because we want it but because you're just takin' it

Dis-res-pec-tin' all the folks who are ma-kin' it

  • Well, it doesn't necessarily stretch that far.

  • @toshineon the sega dreamcast would like a word with you

  • @toshineon Agree,but piracy isn't such a crime.It's more like a infraction.If games wouldn't be so expensive,there wouldn't be any piracing.

Thumbs up if you are with me!

  • i pirate games all the time including wii games.

I have no intention to purchase wii games any more since I can get them for free.

    Same for DS games.

  • Dave Perry was right. Games are more expensive and they are crappier now. I think PC games died in 2004. Companies are more hesitant in making games for PC because people crack them really easy. Thats what the blueray craze is about. Its not for High definition or bigger storage. Sony has been the leading fighter of piracy. Dreamcast was killed because of piracy. Their GD rom dics were easily copied.

  • I'm the biggest pirate in the world, I seed and download all day every day. I went over my internet's 50 GB mark in a week, I got it shocked, the next day fixed my own modem and started seeding again.

  • Jimmy, is a video game pirate. Holy sh*t this isn't a big deal, it is so easy. Secret sites? They're free now a days, holy shit my PC has over 10 Gbs of roms, and 140Gbs of PC games.

  • I need to find me one of these "secret computer bulletin boards". XD

  • Man Piracy became cheap as fuck these days, no more $500 machines on top of the SNES. Just get some brains and fuck around a bit with the inner workings installing maybe a chip or something and bam your 360 is playing pirated games. (I don't own a 360, but I hear piracy isn't too hard for it.)

  • not anymore, they killed modded 360s over live with a update i've heard. but if they have a best buy warranty they could just walk into the store and get it replaced.

  • I've heard there's ways to get around the hardware ban by switching the hardware MAC or something.

  • @spiderhamz you can still play pirated 360 games after your banned, you just can't go on live.

  • what's he running at 1:25? Linux?

  • looks like a mac to me

  • I dunno... I don't see the Quick launch/Minimize bar (sorry don't have Mac, don't know name)

  • No, that's totally an Apple

  • mac os7.

  • older OSes looked like that..

  • "In about 20 minutes..."

  • lol floppy discs

that Pro Fighter X thing looked pretty cool though

  • Pro Fighter X for the win!

  • is it alright if you burn a demo disk on to a cd-r

  • bo, you will(if the police get hang on you) they will charge you whit a massive bill ,happened to my brother :(

  • well hide ur ip its simple

  • 20 minutes to download a 1.44 :p

  • That BBS looks like an irc board

  • Those "boards" aren't so secret now-and-days

  • $30 a week, what a bunch of suckers, i get my stuff for free, floppy hahahahha.

  • This was in 1995 back when the internet was expensive. I think they were referring to the BBS subscription, much like how you probobly pay 20 dollars a month for DSL or cable or whatever.

  • The money they "Lose" is basically nothing more then theoretical dollars. Where is the proof that they would have made that money the pirates supposedly stole form them the previous year? That's right, you can't prove it. Or disprove it. So it's a moot point.

Most pirates do it for one reason and one reason only:

    Because they can.

They won't buy your product, but if their technical know-how gives them the ability to take it for free, they'll do it.

    and brag about it.

  • You're right. The evil bastards.

  • If the game is good, you should buy it. It's as simple as that. I do play game backups, both of games I have and do not have. And I always buy a copy of a game that is good.

  • my estimated loss to pirateing is most likely 10% or less since most pirrates can't afford games.

  • @boilerplate

guess that explains why games add little surprises to pirated games such as crashes, bugs and even making the pirated game unplayable

  • I'd much rather buy a genuine game than get a pirated copy. I like having a box with a manual and not having to worry about going half way through a game and find out its a corrupt file stopping my progress. I don't believe in paying 60 or 70 euro for a game, that's too much. I only buy them when the price drops to an acceptable level like 25 euro. That way no one is ripped off!

  • Lol I like the opening. Its just really funny.

  • doesnt help if things get forbiden people just start doing it more

  • LOL decades later nothing's changed. Cracks and keygens everywhere, patches and fixes readily available...

  • Except nowadays instead of 30 bucks a week and a 500$ machine, you get them for free and can play them on your PC for free.

  • i like how they say "video games" as now we dont even say video.

  • LOL. I used to WORK as a consultant on this show.

  • reallywhat wasit like and wqas it fut how ong a go was thart sweet man sweet

  • LOL. I used to WORK as a consultant on this show too! wait i know you! Didn't i go around the world on you on SF2? hehhee

  • some games work better full than demo so i will not give 20$ to find it out

  • Pro Fighter X....nice ol' Backup unit

  • I love how video game developers blame poor game sales on piracy. Yeah Dave.. everyone pirated Enter the Matrix.. that must have been why no one was buying it. Earthworm Jim rocked though. DP needs to get back to his roots.

  • I don't recall this far back but I remember Ted The Head and Suki on Game Nation.

  • I use to watch this every saturday at 12 PM on CTV motherfuckers !!!!!!!!

  • Funny. BBS were killing the game industry. Now the game industry is dead. We stole all their money. Now there are no more games...shame on us all...
