@myself660: I have no idea why you are calling the fans in this video Japanese - when it clearly states in the description "Frank live in KOREA 3 Sep 05."
It doesn't care which country you are from. Go check Hiromi Uehara if you dare to think japans haven't got the jazz fusion. I admit they probably are the best crowd and also the most easily impressionable one (Dragonforce's fanatics) but, hey, they are so much people in their country. I'm sure there's a thousand japans for each musical style.
i didnt pick up on that but now that you mention it it is fairly egregious, especially that part where frank does the sweep which doesnt even sound all that great. Yet they dont cheer when frank plays a killer line at 0:37! i gotta agree, the asian music scene is pretty much dead ( or still a mere babe ), yall sadly dont see too many chinese/korean/taiwanese jazz musicians.
yeah, but in the end it doesn't matter cuz they dig it! for whatever reason. compared to the reserved, arrogant audiences in my homecountry, the crowd in this video is very grateful. checkout albert collins' 'ohne filter' concert and you'll see what i mean. he is absolutely smoking and the audience...well... is german (as i am, btw), haha
if you want to insult people, do so. but not me. over and out.
in fact, i expect an apology, you have no right AT ALL to call me that. don't you think i could easily rant away and call you every name in the book? for what? man, you're starting to piss me off. bye
Check out Allan Holdsworth, but you either love him or are bored to death by him... Then there's Steffen Shackinger, John Mclaughlin's electric stuff, Al Di Meola, Larry Carlton
Amazin' comand of the fretboard!!! He is one the VERY VERY BEST guitar players on earth, and deserve to be way more hugely popular than he is.He is the ultimate virtuoso but has an unique taste for strangely beuatiful melodies and original chord progressions. He is the one in a billion!!!

it's just a comment, but Frank Gambale it's a very good guitar player, must probably one of the best in the world but it's just a good virtuoso, he's not a composer or arranger. Ther's a big different. That's why composers hire people like Gambale to do the job at $1000/hour.
i will be very glad to provide a note-by-note comparison/analyses between some of franks's songs and some of yours - provided you've got anything worthwhile to show, that is - just to make every person here on youtube realize what a clueless, ignorant and jealous little bitch you are (not to mention: probably untalented). in short: just shut the f*** up and stop degrading the name of one of the best musicians (NOT just guitarists) on the face of the planet right now. thank you!
Ummm...what? How much music has FG written, composed, penned...whatever you want to call it. Know your shit before its shit that comes out of your mouth.
i actually chilled with frank last night. he was on the drums believe it or not. it was quite the experience. could keep the beat but had NO "FORMAL" schooling. we got him on there as a whim. my friend was on the electric acoustic and it was quite memorable.
i have been listening to gambale since his chick corea electric band. he is why i go into jazz/fusion. it broke me out of that boring pentatonic fretwanking.
Sounds very similar to the solo part of "Smug" from "Raison D'Etre", but is a cliche chord sequence very very used so may be another song, unknown for me, based on it.
Anyway, Gambale is a monster on each song, so.... who care ?? :)))
Gambale is an economy picker; he's not only sweeping; he usually picks every note with exceptions here and there.
I agree with NouveauCliche; that sound he gets with the white guitar isn't nice to listen to. Ofcourse it may not be the guitar, but his settings too.
This is SO nice. I absolutely HATE the tone he gets from that horrid white electric he has...the point of it keeping me from enjoying his playing. Honestly though...he's probably one of my favorite players. SO great! (I just wish he'd stick to the hollowbody!)

I've tried to listen to Holdsworth as well as John McLaughlin and Pat Methany....but I just can't get it. I know it's cool, but I don't enjoy it.
But this guy and guys like Guthrie Govan really inspire me.

shiram11 2 years ago
I'm sick of pentatonic hell. Clapton and everyone else are boring me. This guy is the solution.
I've been searching for this kind of inspiration for a while. This is blues/rock/fusion? Who else can I listen to that is in this league?
Semach4444 2 years ago
Pentatonic is okay. Depends of every guitar player to make it boring or not. Actually in this video, Frank uses a really cool pentatonic lick at 0:10.
But if you want to taste another tipe of licks and scales, I suggest you to watch: Guthrie Govan, Greg Howe, Richie Kotzen.
And remember, the important thing is not the scales you use, the important is the way you use them.
DiegoDuranProject 2 years ago
To quote Obi-Wan: "You've just taken your first step into a larger world."
As to your question:
Scott Henderson(!) - both with Tribal Tech and solo
Pat Metheney's stuff is less chop-heavy and more about the "right notes", but he is a must-listen for guitar lovers.
Al DiMeola, solo and with Return to Forever.
John McLaughlin has been a fusion giant since the 60's. Important.
Allan Holdsworth towers over them all IMO, but listening to him is a lot more work.

Meh, I'm not usually too concerned about grammar, its too informal.
But like the guy below who said "Ther's a big different" is just taking liberties with the English language.
I will spare a few videos though before breaking the internet. Just the 'Charlie the Unicorn' videos mind you.
I figure if no one can see "Great Technic!!!", then they can't offend my eyes exclaiming it.
