  • The greatest guitarist of out time !!!

  • what's the name of this song?

  • I GIVE UP .

  • lol pentatonic ftw

    frank you fucking rule

  • wena wena..

  • frank is one of the best guitarists of all the times

  • John Mclaughlin actually said ''I wanna cut his ands off' talking about Gambale ahah xD a giant to another giant...

  • Have no idea why are these japanese people so impressed with his fast arpeggios and not just by his great playing...?

  • @myself660: I have no idea why you are calling the fans in this video Japanese - when it clearly states in the description "Frank live in KOREA 3 Sep 05."

  • @addresses lmaoooo

  • i see his fasion sense is still as good as it was in the 80s.

    Oh wait...

    Wheres the leather pants?

  • SUPER GUITAAR PLAYER ALL THE STARS GREETINGS JAN

  • love frank... but why do people clap every time he lifts up speed????

  • It doesn't care which country you are from. Go check Hiromi Uehara if you dare to think japans haven't got the jazz fusion. I admit they probably are the best crowd and also the most easily impressionable one (Dragonforce's fanatics) but, hey, they are so much people in their country. I'm sure there's a thousand japans for each musical style.

  • the best music flavor.. no distortion... just feeling and technique...blues! OMG INCREIBLE!!

  • god

  • ?? care to clarify that comment? i'm sure theres some asians out there that totally dig jazz and fusion brother!

  • Comment removed

  • i didnt pick up on that but now that you mention it it is fairly egregious, especially that part where frank does the sweep which doesnt even sound all that great. Yet they dont cheer when frank plays a killer line at 0:37! i gotta agree, the asian music scene is pretty much dead ( or still a mere babe ), yall sadly dont see too many chinese/korean/taiwanese jazz musicians.

    peace

  • yeah, but in the end it doesn't matter cuz they dig it! for whatever reason. compared to the reserved, arrogant audiences in my homecountry, the crowd in this video is very grateful. checkout albert collins' 'ohne filter' concert and you'll see what i mean. he is absolutely smoking and the audience...well... is german (as i am, btw), haha

  • That's an understatement! Jazz fusion is now and has always been bigger in Japan than anywhere.

  • @ydoggbdoggbigG2 Check out Hiromi Uehara. Try "Kung Fu World Champion" first.

  • you fucking asshole

  • aw, shut it.

if you want to insult people, do so. but not me. over and out.

in fact, i expect an apology, you have no right AT ALL to call me that. don't you think i could easily rant away and call you every name in the book? for what? man, you're starting to piss me off. bye

  • I've tried to listen to Holdsworth as well as John McLaughlin and Pat Methany....but I just can't get it. I know it's cool, but I don't enjoy it.

But this guy and guys like Guthrie Govan really inspire me.

  • awsome!...I wanna know where I could find this song? or it´s just a jamming?

  • I'm sick of pentatonic hell. Clapton and everyone else are boring me. This guy is the solution.

I've been searching for this kind of inspiration for a while. This is blues/rock/fusion? Who else can I listen to that is in this league?

  • Pentatonic is okay. Depends of every guitar player to make it boring or not. Actually in this video, Frank uses a really cool pentatonic lick at 0:10.

But if you want to taste another tipe of licks and scales, I suggest you to watch: Guthrie Govan, Greg Howe, Richie Kotzen.

And remember, the important thing is not the scales you use, the important is the way you use them.

  • To quote Obi-Wan: "You've just taken your first step into a larger world."

    As to your question:

Scott Henderson(!) - both with Tribal Tech and solo

Pat Metheney's stuff is less chop-heavy and more about the "right notes", but he is a must-listen for guitar lovers.

Al DiMeola, solo and with Return to Forever.

John McLaughlin has been a fusion giant since the 60's. Important.

Allan Holdsworth towers over them all IMO, but listening to him is a lot more work.

  • "Allan Holdsworth towers over them all IMO, but listening to him is a lot more work."

AH is definitely the best, but he is boring to the untrained ear.

  • kurt rosenwinkel, pat metheny, george benson

  • Perhaps some of john scofield, but then again, it might not be this good. I'd like more of this as well.

  • try Shawn Lane - pentatonic king

  • greg howe,guthrie govan,scott hederson..

  • Check out Allan Holdsworth, but you either love him or are bored to death by him... Then there's Steffen Shackinger, John Mclaughlin's electric stuff, Al Di Meola, Larry Carlton

  • i just found out about frank gambale in guitar techniques magazin and now im picking up my jaw from the floor!

  • I never beleived Frank ever got the recognition he deserves...A lot of people still don't know of him...Too bad for them...play on brother

  • Its beautiful best ive eve rplayed

  • Man, I love the Benson-esque phrasing and attack! Is there anything this man can't do on a guitar...?

  • I own this guitar

    yamaha aes 1500

  • I just ordered one a few weeks ago :)

  • how is it? Do you recommend it?

  • love this vibe.........groovy good feelin' stuff

  • i love his playing but im just not digging his jazz guitar tone, maybe a les paul would sound better

  • It's kind of funny at this point in his career frank plays a Jazz box some times . His tone is definately a bit too dry

  • I agree its very dry but it does show how clean and technical his playing is.

  • Yah, this kicks ass.

  • Amazing made in Italy!! ;)

  • Frank is not from this planet

  • Aye, I endorse this statement! :p

  • Is that the guy from Fantastic 4 ????

    JAAA! Just kidding!

  • Amazing!!!

  • Amazin' comand of the fretboard!!! He is one the VERY VERY BEST guitar players on earth, and deserve to be way more hugely popular than he is.He is the ultimate virtuoso but has an unique taste for strangely beuatiful melodies and original chord progressions. He is the one in a billion!!!

  • omg. must go practice. see you guys later. much later.

  • Strange! He sounds almost like J.McLaughlin.Ok!Better this than his "sweeping" lessons.

  • holy crap this guy is good

  • Allright, that was funky ! This yamaha looks kinda like a gretsch too

  • Please, feel free to "destroy the internet"...everything except Franks videos--and maybe mine- is it "mine" or 'mine?'...wait, what?

  • Meh, I'm not usually too concerned about grammar, its too informal.

But like the guy below who said "Ther's a big different" is just taking liberties with the English language.

I will spare a few videos though before breaking the internet. Just the 'Charlie the Unicorn' videos mind you.

I figure if no one can see "Great Technic!!!", then they can't offend my eyes exclaiming it.

    You have 7 days remaining.

  • he's not a composer ? you are kidding right ?

  • i will be very glad to provide a note-by-note comparison/analyses between some of franks's songs and some of yours - provided you've got anything worthwhile to show, that is - just to make every person here on youtube realize what a clueless, ignorant and jealous little bitch you are (not to mention: probably untalented). in short: just shut the f*** up and stop degrading the name of one of the best musicians (NOT just guitarists) on the face of the planet right now. thank you!

  • Ummm...what? How much music has FG written, composed, penned...whatever you want to call it. Know your shit before its shit that comes out of your mouth.

  • I swear if people don't learn to spell, I'm going to destroy the internet. Its TECHNIQUE!!!!

    Sweet solo too.

  • Hahahahahaha nice

  • the guy with the best technic

  • i think i dig his clean playing even more than the overdriven stuff. you realize just how good he is.

  • perfect technics and improvisation with a great mind

  • stop arguing over who is the real guitar god. music is polytheistic.

  • Jowind: best comment ever

  • gambale the real guitar god!

  • Frank Gambale plays like a god!

  • I am sure he has heard of Holdsworth and Gambale is every bit as good as Allan.

Just ask Allan next time you see him. Both Gambale and Holdsworth gush over eachother.

  • i actually chilled with frank last night. he was on the drums believe it or not. it was quite the experience. could keep the beat but had NO "FORMAL" schooling. we got him on there as a whim. my friend was on the electric acoustic and it was quite memorable.

  • No way? Last night we had sex.

  • I have studied Gambale since the 80's and this is also what helped me break from the pentatonic rut. I now have a 'voice'.

  • a disgustingly awesome guitarist and a great teacher, met him once at a clinic, nice guy

  • along with bireli lagrene, gamble is easily the best guitarist alive

  • a master of the guitar

  • i have been listening to gambale since his chick corea electric band. he is why i go into jazz/fusion. it broke me out of that boring pentatonic fretwanking.

  • Damn the man is ill. Is that a song he's performing or just an improv jam?

  • Speed apart, seems to be a kind of variation of "Smug" taken from "Raison D'etre" but really...reaaaallly much more quick !!!

  • Sounds very similar to the solo part of "Smug" from "Raison D'Etre", but is a cliche chord sequence very very used so may be another song, unknown for me, based on it.

Anyway, Gambale is a monster on each song, so.... who care ?? :)))

  • I really want to rip off that little breakdown lick he did there lol.

  • its descending groups of four... its not pattened

  • amazing!

  • Gambale is an economy picker; he's not only sweeping; he usually picks every note with exceptions here and there.

I agree with NouveauCliche; that sound he gets with the white guitar isn't nice to listen to. Ofcourse it may not be the guitar, but his settings too.

  • sick. as. fuck.

  • Gambale rulez !

  • THE BEST!

  • nasty, he is downright NASTY!! Serious chops, and timing...Thats the main thing, his damn timing is so good.

  • This is SO nice. I absolutely HATE the tone he gets from that horrid white electric he has...the point of it keeping me from enjoying his playing. Honestly though...he's probably one of my favorite players. SO great! (I just wish he'd stick to the hollowbody!)

  • Wow, love this jazzy solo...what range!!!

  • i love his playing so much, His techinque is so good

  • slap me sideways.... the king of sweeps....shwweeeet!

  • Too bad it's so short!

  • oh man, Gambale's got it

  • Gambale has so much range it's unreal.
