@NHLBruinsFan2011 Unfortunately, yes. :( A lot of the local fans refused to support the team because they weren't named the Mallards (we had a UHL franchise for about 11 seasons before the Flames). The AHL team only lasted 2 years before the owners lost too much money to keep it going. The Quad Cities do have a AA-level CHL team now, though...but I miss AAA-level hockey.

Started as Quad City Mallards in 95-96, dominated the Colonial Hockey League and United Hockey League until roughly 01-02 season. Huge crowds...7k+ per night; performance dropped off & about 2500 bandwagon fans disappeared. Owners brought in Calgary Flames' AHL franchise (QC Flames) for 07-08/08-09 seasons to reignite area's interest. Didn't work, now the Mallards can't pull enough fans to break even in CHL; 3 ownership changes since 08-09 .

I love the idea of letting young kids ride along in the Zamboni. It gives them a chance to get on the ice of their heroes and its an experience not many get. I wish they had that when I was young.
