  • Sigh. Once again, as I see from the comments, people are needlessly demonizing China. Yes, the Chinese are invading Tibet and forcefully replacing the culture there with their own, and enslaving them under the black book of communism and I don't agree with that. But what you don't know, is that China is also introducing EDUCATION, HOUSING, and MODERN MEDICINE to the Tibetans. Seriously, Tibet was a hellhole. watch?v=fYEOSCIOnrs

This was just an average run of the mill cm. Not offensive.

  • @TheTheDeclaration your comment doesn't make any structural or logical sense. slavery and genocide are excusable... because of education and housing?

  • @PoisonYouth @PoisonYouth Sigh. Once again, I have to outline and spoonfeed key sentences of my point when I was perfectly clear with it the first time.

Yes, the Chinese are invading Tibet and forcefully replacing the culture there with their own, and enslaving them under the black book of communism and I DON'T AGREE WITH THAT. <--- Here I made clear that genocide is inexcusable.

Also, that link should give you the true intentions of the Dalai Llama and the Free Tibet movement.

  • @PoisonYouth My point is that Americans should realize that issue of Tibet's sovereignty is a completely irrelevant and unimportant non issue. We have people STARVING, UNEMPLOYED, and DYING OF SICKNESS in our own country. Plus we're in debt. We do not need to spend money supplying weapons to a dictator who, will later stab us in back with what we gave him. Seriously, Tibet oppressed themselves and now China's doing it to them. Let the gnashing dogs bleed till they dry I say.

  • @TheTheDeclaration ...who said anything about America?

and just because you make the stipulation that you don't agree doesn't make what you said any less nonsensical. but I guess that isn't your fault entirely since you seem to be just barely literate.

  • Insensitive, sure. Intentionally offensive? Far from it. Nowhere in the ad did he say the situation should be ignored or ridiculed. If not for this ad, most Americans would have completely forgot about Tibet. I would prefer an apology with the wording "We are sorry many of you are stupid and require blindfolds and earplugs to get through life."

  • lol, I love the look on the Chinese babes in Abe

  • Did they exploit the misery and suffering of others for their personal profit? Disgusting

  • Love it. It's very funny and original. Fuck pc.

  • Im a Tibetan living in exile in India and i find this sad..america does not have the courage to stand upto china shame

  • @plastof I suggest you find some oil in tibet.

  • @plastof America has its' own colonies. The American government would hardly take issue with China over that. Unless Tibet has oil. But most individual Americans would gladly stand up to China for your rights.

  • @plastof What the fuck do you mean we do not have the courage? We have plenty courage and we put it to good use all the time like with those mad mad mad muslim savages who keep blowing up on everything. Still, I do take pity on your plight, but you should actually read up on your country's history. Especially on how old Tibet was ruled with iron fist with serfs living in total misery because that's what the Dalai Llama wishes. Tibet is going to be a miserable place no matter what.

  • @plastof Seriously you want to stay in India, you'll be much happier there, as long as our proud American Coca Cola co. factories don't fuck up and dirty those water reservoirs beyond recognition.

  • its not about culture. its about human rights down to the core.

  • DISGUSTING.

  • WHAAAAAAAA! Ah be offendid!

  • I still think this was one of the funniest Super Bowl ads I've ever seen. Tasteless, yes, but TOTALLY cracked me up!! >< I'll bet that this year's ads are BORING compared to this!

  • @djtrixen nope, look at the Chevy ad. it rips on Ford and is actually funny.

  • Maybe Timothy Hutton can do a Burmese food ad for Groupon next?

  • Their marketing department does a super job of targeting the unwitting, culturally insensitive, dumbfuck demo.

  • Welcome to the United States of the Offended

  • Stupid Americans that don't know anything about Tibet say "gahrsh, i thught it wuz funny."

  • People need a fucking sense of humor. All this commercial is doing is making light of a serious issue. Comedians do it, movies do it, sitcoms do it; this is no different. Timothy Hutton probably understands the severity of the problem in Tibet, but he clearly has a sense of humor to understand a joke. There are much worse things in the media than Groupon ads.

  • @iShavedYesterday Amen. This year Groupon ought to have a commercial where they have a guy in a mink coat club some baby seals to death and burn a few acres of rainforest just to piss off these sissy, politically correct, no-humor-having motherfuckers. It's a joke! LAUGH FOR A CHANGE!!! ;D

  • I thought this was funny.

  • Though I think the reason people are angered is because of their own guilt. This ad is much better than being ignored for the Tibetan people

  • IDIOTIC IF YOU'RE GOING TO SPEND 1MIL ON AN AD WOULDN'T YOU SCREEN IT FIRST

  • this commercial made me sorta stop liking timothy hutton. im being serious.

  • Possibly the best commercial I saw during the Super Bowl.

  • @YosupdawgAnimations ABSOLUTELY!!! ><

  • You guys need to get a sense of humor. IF you went on their site it actually encouraged people to donate to the organizations they made a joke about.

  • LOL you guys are really overreacting to this. It's funny. The plight of the Tibet region is not. But I don't think it's inappropriate for a superbowl joke. I bet if the same joke had been made in a Comedy Central roast, or some stoner movie, you wouldn't bat an eye.

  • Stanwood.

  •

  • a lot of you bitches don't even know much about the country and are talking about it. You are making opinions based on a couple of seconds you see on the news. and im sure like you have never made fun of another culture/country

  • Tacky and tasteless as hell...

  • Do any of you know anything about Tibet? As an American who has been in this part of the world for most of the last 6 years, only a small minority of Tibetans feel victimized by China. This whole Tibetan Sympathy phenomenon is living proof that people just want to support a cause, any cause, whether with good reason or not.

Go to places like Dharamsala, India or Boudha, Nepal. The Tibetan Refugees are living high off the hog from all the western donations coming in. It's criminal.

  • @machehn fuck tibet

  • @machehn so ure implying that the march 10 incident happened because only a SMALL MINORITY of people in Tibet felt victimized? so u think millions of people who support the Tibetan issue are brainless? Who are you to decide whats right and whats wrong? Tibet will be free one day .. Truth will prevail ..and truth is Tibetans in the Land of Snow are victims of the Chinese occupation in Tibet .. you just dont want to believe it ..

.. stop spreading hate with ur FAKE youtube account ..

  • @tenzinsheydup So disagreeing with you is hating you. I guess everybody hates me, because I've never met anyone who agreed with me on every issue.

I am just telling you the truth as I have experienced it. Most Tibetans in Tibet really don't care too much and seem to prefer Chinese rule. Yes, some Tibetans are oppressed, and this is beyond any doubt - and that is not a good thing. The Chinese do dominate the Tibetan culture, but the Western interference doesn't help at all.

  • @machehn i just think its stupid of you to say something based on your interaction with a COUPLE of people .. that maybe aren't even TIbetans.. I am pretty sure you wouldnt be able to differentiate between a tibetan and a chinese anyway ..

  • @tenzinsheydup Nice guess, but I am not basing my statement on my interactions with a couple of people. I am basing my interactions with tens of thousands of people over many years time.

Don't just disagree with me because you don't think I can differentiate between Chinese and Tibetan. It's not really much of a defense of your opinion. Anyway, in that regard, not only can I tell the difference, I can likely tell you from what region of Tibet a Tibetan comes from.

  • Hilarious. Can't wait till next year.

  • stop with the fabricated vicariously being offended thing. people suck.

  • Horrible advertisement, and very spiteful towards the Chinese, I would just love to punch this guy in the face for saying those things...

  • Their suffering, our bargain.

    PROFIT!!!

  • Gropon generated buzz. That's all they wanted. And we ate it up. Fuck you assholes.

  • @AJSpartan117 Well, everyone who hated it boycotted it, so its their loss. I know ill never use groupon again after this.

  • bad, bad taste!

  • Hahaha this is fucking awesome.

  • I'm disgusted by groupon. I won't be using their services!

  • .....And we want to buy from this place why now? It makes him seem like an a-hole.

  • It's not racist. It's just a joke

  • This is very racist and very anti-sinic. Chinese Tibetan suffered like the other ethnic groups in China - you can not say they suffered any more. Some 20 million people in China perished in the 1950's and 1950's due to famine. There were no famines in the Tibet region and the death rate there was below the rest of China.

    Anti-sinicism is the new anti-semitics.

  • wow, it's just a joke people lighten up!!!!

  • I love how some people consider me "uptight" for thinking that the trials and tribulations of Tibet being shamelessly commercialized for a coupon website is offensive. There's making jokes and then there's... this.

Take note of this: it's possible to make a FUNNY racy joke, but when it's not funny, then you're just an offensive jerk. It's as simple as that.

  • Ah ha ha! so funny. . Sad, but funny.

  • a lot of uptight panties in a bunch over the only funny ad show this past super bowl... maybe people would prefer another bud light ad where a guy gets hit in the nuts?

  • The backlash against this commercial is ridiculous. People are so stupid sometimes. When this ad came out I heard about it everywhere. You wanna know how often I hear people complaining about whats actually happening in tibet? Never. Again ~ NEVER. Its a stupid little ad thats kinda funny. If you took the time to complain about it and and you dont own a "free tibet" t-shirt, your retarded.

Also: "Humanity FAIL" beboptube, youre also retarded. Its an advertisement for coupons.

  • @jamesonknott...............you've used the term retard and stupid to describe your views, and yet you've not made one single articulate point.

  • Pretty gross!

  • watch?v=90FAJK13C-0

Just another news from Xizang...I don't believe it, but this true. After 60 years, Tibet has changed a lot.

60 years ago, no many people can speak Putonghua. Mao couldn't speak Putonghua, and he didn't understand pinyin...but Tibetan kids, like millions of other Chinese kids, can. They are the hopes of China. :)

  • watch?v=tel9pQWYvnU

    Learn simple Tibet from Chinese.:)

  • How often have you driven by a fire and thought 'How can this benefit me?'

  • haha

  • What year was this on?

  • @HepaGhee= This year. It was a Super Bowl commercial. They got rid of it after a week.

  • WORST. SUPER BOWL COMMERICAL. EVER!!!

  • this is so fucked up.

  • hahaha lol

  • Whoa whoa whoa wait a minute whoa whoa hold on a sec whoa whoa. what the fuck is a groupon?

  • Think about this people - it got you talking about Tibet. Maybe that was part of the point.

  • This ad isn't offensive enough - it's just plain blah... I think they should have gone full tilt and just have Hutton sucker punch that poor Tibetan server after he dropped off the fish curry. Why stop there? Maybe he could take a bite or two and then regurgitate the contents of his elite stomach all over the downed waiter's face and then go shopping for a conflict diamond from Zales while talking about how he saved 50% on the ring he bought for his mistress because South Africans are dumb.

  • Jesus. That's... pretty insensitive.

  • Fucking Priceless... I cannot stop laughing.

  • Well, I just sent them an e-mail. Completely tasteless assholes.

  • Refuse to buy anything Groupon! Free Tibet

  • fish curry?? Tibetans eat neither of them...

  • American culture is so self-centralized. And this is so offensive.

  • 0:15 you can see the contempt for humanity in Hutton's eyes. Utterly tasteless!

  • You can see it in the waiter's eyes. "I just shit in this guy's food."

  • Groupon worked with Chinese. The result is obvious: groupon gets popularity in China; chinese or tibet specifically attracts more tourists. Evidence: the scene of two girls dancing near a tent is very similar to the scene from a chinese music video, but they are different. If the situation in Tibet is so bad, the background should not that bright.lol.

  • OK, I was being nice. I'm SURE he knows more about the situation than you do. In fact, they screened and approved the ads BEFORE they ran. The fact that some whiners disagree notwithstanding. (Greenpeace praised the environmental ad as well.) In the end, the whiners will whine themselves out, people will remember Groupon and forget the controversy. It happens all the time. Look at the ads Calvin Klein has run in the past. Come back to this page in a few years--we'll see who was right then.

  • It feels like the ads That Paul Verhoven put together for the film Robocop.

  • That intelligent humour -- if you're an American.

  • @genreslur That's a true statement, if you're a narrow-minded bigot.

  • WOW. That IS tasteless.

  • Wow how bourgeoisie. Did you tip them afterward or just let them eat cake? How was the valet service at driving your Escalade? Did Hutton need the money for his divorce or is he buying his girlfriend a new house? I hope his lawyer accepts Groupon. Humanity FAIL.

  • So much ignorance in this spot. To begin with, fish is not even commonly eaten in Tibet.

  • First active U.S. participation

US was never formally a member of the Allies but became a self-styled "Associated Power". US had a small army, but, after the passage of the Selective Service Act, it drafted 2.8 million men and by summer 1918 was sending 10,000 fresh soldiers to France every day. In 1917, U.S. Congress gave U.S. citizenship to Puerto Ricans when they were drafted to participate in WWI, as part of the Jones Act. Germany had miscalculated,....US population in 1900 is 75m.-:)

    I don't mind being brainwashed...Proud to be a Chinese!

  • @lycopene1 fuck you asshole. I know what it is like trying to talk to the Chinese about Tibet, and nothing I say can really change your mind. Have fun in you overpopulated country you stupid shit

  • @imakevideos4U2watch take a breather and calm the fuck down a-hole

  • Other evidences that China is part of Tibet. LOL.

We all know what is Snow Lion and Panda. We all know China was called a sleeping Lion.

Now the lion is Awakened, or the giant panda is Awakened? The latter looks more peaceful.

Either way, the snow lion is is a celestial animal of Tibet. Pandas live in eastern Tibet region. Tibet and China have been fully integrated, you can't separate them no matter how hard you try.

  • The Chinese dressing like a Mongol is not a typical Tibetan.

By the way, you don't have to speak Tibetan to be a Tibetan. Jigme Norbu doesn't speak Tibetan, many Tibetans in China can't either.

  • Buzz is great! However, this was in very poor taste. I am all for satire but as a marcom pro there is no way I would allow a client to release something tasteless.

  • i was watchin the super bowl and this commercial came on n i'm like OMFG!!! Timothy Hutton!!! xoxoxoxo *crushing!*

  • This is a con. Do not register on their site or you will be the victim of very intrusive daily spam and pop ups that seem to be impossible to block.

  • poor taste

  • This commericial is pretty offensive. Stupid Groupon, do not be a hypocrite.

  • They can rarely donate to lamas or build monasteries inside Tibet because of heavy restrictions on religion there, and so see India as an alternative base for their temples and monasteries. Both China and India look to these ties with suspicion. The lamas in India are caught in the middle, accused by both sides as agents of the other." By Tsering Shakya

  • "In the 1980s, Tibet was far poorer than India and donations flowed exile lamas and Tibetans in India into Tibet for the reconstruction of monasteries there. Today, this balance has changed. The Tibetan region has been benefited in some ways from China’s economic growth and today, the people in Tibet enjoy a much higher standard of living than their counterparts in India, and have disposable wealth to send to lamas and to relatives living in India.

  • USA, the lonely superpower, can retire.

Dalai Lama, the lonely supreme Lama, can retire.

Both both are reluctant to do so. Lol.

  • 989 people actually care about the people in Tibet and don't like that we take advantage of them to save money on fish curry.

  • A lot easily offended pussies in the world, isn't there?

  • @howardgalt Right, because there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with this commercial...

  • the commercials are premised on saving something endangered — and a few bucks to boot they got to make money lets be realistic least they use half the commercials for good wile lining there pocket at the same time if other big cooperations did this we would be much better off

  • positive stocks

  • This is great. We need to stop breeding pussies and realize we're the most hated country in the world so why can't who cares if we give everyone a nice big fuck you!

I never imagined how fast all taste and credibility can abandon an advert

  • This commercial was sponsored by People's Tourist Bureau of Tibet.

Be aware: you won't get any fish curry when you get there. LOL.

  • oh this is just wrong.

  • Uninspired and derivative

  • Conan

  • There subscription numbers went up after this ad played . . . so I guess it did what it was supposed to do. Even if it does offend some of your delicate sensibilities, they seem to know what they are doing. So get off your high horse and STFU!

  • This commercial is selfish and uncaring, I've seen what the Chinese to to the people of Tibet, it is horrible, look for yourself.

  • th was EXTREMELY offensive

  • This could win the award for most damage done to a hot brand in less than a minute. The commercial is an embarrassment to Groupon and every American who prefers not to be perceived as overlooking serious humanitarian plight to save a few pennies on a curry dish.

  • I don't know what to think of this commercial.

  • oh my god this is so terrible

i really can't see how anyone can think this could work?!

  • Groupon's business model is a great idea, but their marketing and supposedly funny (but really just poorly written) descriptions for their merchants are just piss poor.

  • Gee...never saw a ad so bad like this one...wasted 30 sec

  • Gee...never saw a ad so bad like this one. Godamnit..wasted 30 sec

  • Group on knew exactly what they were doing. They knew the ad would stir controversy and the bottom line is this ad created more exposure for the struggles in Tibet than any promotional campaign could by juxtaposing the seriousness of the issue with the pettiness of a coupon. They are selling their company and raising awareness for a serious issue simultaneously. For that, they should be applauded. In the end, all this ad will do is drum up more support for Tibet. No one should be offended, and

  • Offensive? Maybe. But what I find more offensive is how we pick and choose our causes which are often politically motivated. This is a such a glaring example. Tibetans are being treated horribly by their "Chinese oppressors" while evil Palestians are being contained by our Isreali friends. When, if you look at it, there is no difference between their suffering. What the difference is our view of it. This commercial perfectly illustrates our consumer based frivolous society.

  • You seem to be assuming that people who are against the Chinese treatment of Tibetans support the Israeli treatment of Palestinians...

  • @goulo No not at all. I was using this as an example. It's clear that the public by and large simply supports what they are told to support by sources such as (number 1 rated) FOX news. By and large, people don't bother to dig deeper. There's no attempt to look at the history and try to understand. To me, that's just as insulting if not more so then this commercial. This will hurt the feelings of a few but it won't, for example, galvanize a nation to go at war under false pretences.
