  • Very wise words for such a young man. And seriously needed to be said. Thanks dude...

  • Good vid, Great advice, Joe. Thanx.

  • Thanks. If you really love playing.. Don't quit! :)

  • DAMN!!! MAN U gave some EXCELLENT advise about the music business!!! U got your head on straight!!! PEACE!!

  • hello !! Thanks for making this clip for young musicians. Your advice to young players and in particular young songwriters is RIGHT ON!! I hope your music is still progressing too. The best advice I ever got was Keep Going. I asked a successful player how to get ahead in the industry and he was very plain speaking about it, just keep working on it . I have been playing for thirty years and still enjoy it. The best advice is have fun with it.

  • .I have been playing drums for about 20 years in metal and been playing guitar on and off for about the same time I favour drums more so when I write music I do a drum track first then an arrangement of guitar tracks over the drums so all the songs come out like fear factory style . I think I do arse about but it works for me, I'm just trying to say is, if music is in the blood dont let anyone stop whats in your heart...yes, rest and time off is important everything in moderation.

  • Good honest advice man, I was playing in drums in bands in the Sydney metal scene for about 10 years until I was sick of ppl telling me to play a part this way or that way I was almost going to give it away untill I started writing stuff myself..

  • Thanks for the video! This is exactly what I was looking for when I did a search. Im in the process of making my first full song. I have already been finding out some of the things you pointed out, but hearing it, and getting that reinforcment helps more than anything. Ill favorite this and refer to it later, check out your other videos etc.

Thanks a ton. Experienced artist should do this more often.

  • You're very welcome. Good luck with your song writing. :)

  • Thanks man great video, great advice.

  • Joe Your absolutely right, I was first playing some Electric Guitar wich didnt went that well, so i went back to arcoustic. 2 weeks ago i though would i still be able to do it? So i dropped my arcoustic ( on a cushion dont worry ) and try'd my electric again. Guess what I playe SOO much better like a HUGE difference! you totally know what your talking about 5/5

  • Hey, I'm a multi-instrument guy, and I keep having some trouble over conquering a sort of "Intsrument ADD." For whatever reason, I'll be playing my guitar, and all of the sudden I really want to go to my drum kit and play. It's rather annoying when I'm trying to write stuff. Also, (If you write for the other instruments) what process do you (yourself) write songs with? I am finding it easier to write the guitar, then play on my kit to find some matching beats and fills, and then vocals.

  • It's normal to feel that need to do several things at once that you enjoy. You're over-stimulated. Not necessarily a bad thing.. It just takes some patience to handle it.

I only write instrumentals at the moment so everything is done on the guitar.

  • very good advice, ivve been a musician for 10 years (voice, guitar, bass, violin)... i can vouce thats very sound, for any artist really, in any art form. remain true to yourself.

  • Thanks. :)

  • Good stuff!

    Thanks!

  • nice advice u r absolutely right about resting and composing i like to take a week off a guitar and then my inspiration is restored...

i like your playing too so ill subscribe and if you wold be so kind to check out my videos and tell me what you think.... i play somehow similar to you..

p.s. if you want to hear my original instrumental check out my song New Day

    thanks

  • Dude i am writting some songs and some people say it sucks but i have pushed them aside and i kept doing it over and over and then i went back to them about 3 months later and they said it blew their mind sa that is very good advise!

  • Good! Keep doing what you do and fuck what people say!

As long as you enjoy it, keep doing it.

  • That was awesome Joe, great advice that people tend to overlook so easily. Great video.
