No it wasn't the awakening by itself, it was the military surge that AND the political pressure that forced Iraq to stand up and fight, we cleaned out 13 Al Qaeda strongholds and defeated some of the strongest cells in Anbar and other locations, this allowed the Iraqies to gain strength and take control. Stop spinning the situation and belitting the accomplishments of our troops.

Stop claiming credit for something the Iraqis accomplished DESPITE the occupation. With 1,000,000 dead and 4,500,000 refugess, it is clear we didn't stop the civil war, we merely slowed it down.

Who is to say this all wouldn't have happened much sooner with BUDGETS and TIMETABLES. After all those fuckups now claiming credit for victory after waiting it out is disingenuous. The Iraqis deserve most of the credit. 50% of them still think it's OK to shoot at us.

The Anbar Awakening occurred BEFORE the surge. Had Al Qaida been more considerate for the citizens there they wouldn't have become enemies. Yes. Violence is the last resort. However, when evil is on the move, it generally doesn't give a damn about diplomacy. When an armed intruder enters your home and tries to kill you, your wife and kids, what's your plan? Talk him out of it or grow a pair and fight?
