That said, I couldn't disagree more with your analysis of Japanese cinema vs. Hollywood. If you want proof, take a look at the trailers for the upcoming 'Hollywood' adaptations of Dragonball and Streetfighter II, then come back and tell me they look more promising than Shinobi!!!

you see my point here is just about poor acting execution - I saw the trailers already, although i haven't watch any of it i could say that 'YES!' When it comes to acting execution it is (Well, at least) more promising than Shinobi!!!, surely you cannot expect Justin Chatwin to have a wide eyes/round mouth/dum dum facial expression like Goku or, Kristin Kreuk to do jump and laugh w/ peace sign like Chunli, bcoz its not anime anymore! hollywood acting is all about sticking to reality!

Well, this is just a teaser trailer. I really don't think you can comment on the acting from what's on view here. My problem with Dragonball Evolution and the Chun Li film is that Hollywood has no respect for the source material. The Dragonball film looks just horrible - Caucasian actors playing obviously Asian characters and very little feel for the setting. As for the reject from Smallville playing Chun-Li...oh dear. Incidentally, Shinobi wasn't an anime adaptation. It was based on a novel...

I suggest you check out some Akira Kurosawa films like Yojimbo, Seven Samurai or Ikiru, or Takeshi Kitano movies like Hana-Bi or Sonatine, if you want to see some incredible acting that puts Hollywood stars to shame.

Lyn, the Japanese cinema release is May 29th 2009. It's due to be released in the UK on June 12th. There's no Us release yet, although Universal are rumored to be interested in handling the rights. Depending on where you are, you'll get to see it sooner or later.
