I love going to the Alamo. I live in Houston and a proud Texan. It nearly makes me tear up to think of the men that paid the ultimate debt just to make their land free. I also live about maybe 10 miles from the San Jacinto Monument. It's nothing quite like it to walk on the field that Sam Houston grazed.
A favorite retelling of the Alamo siege for me even more than any film is Texas historian Jack Jaxon's graphic novel 'The Alamo: An Epic Told From Both Sides'
I have seen the 1960 version and the 2004 version. Yes it can be said that in John Waynes film there are some historical innaccuracies, but quite often reality can seem a little boring or mundane,so for dramatic effect Hollywood steps in. I prefer the 2004 film because they had gone to great lengths to re-create the clothes and weapons of that time, also the building of an exact copy of San Antonio as it was at the siege of the Alamo. In my view it was as close to reality as I've seen in any film.
@bosoxx44 It seems the United States of America is the only nation in the world who remembers those who helped them with freedom. Its a shame many Europeans have forgotten why they are free today. Those who breathe free air in the world can thank American sons, daughters, mothers and fathers for it, but we don't brag about it, we just remember. Thanks.
@silviod100 - The bodies were burned in three pyres. The Mexican army stacked the bodies with wood and cremated them. Their ashes were scattered nearby. The grass is roped off because they don't want people walking on the grass. Also, that is approximately the place where David Crockett was killed.
Masons were the ones who defeated the Mexican people, not the noble American people. even the Mexican side is the traitor and mason san anna which began to fragment the Mexican government under President Agustin I of Mexico. and this character obscure member of a lodge is committed as offenders usually commit today because of drugs.
The 1960 version was a well done movie, but HIGHLY inaccurate. If you want the truth, the closer version is the 2004 Alamo. Current historians believe that, from personal records of Mexican soldiers after the fact, that Crockett was one of the survivors killed after the seige. Plus, I have to say that the newer version has a very awesome soundtrack. Thanks for posting this.
@russellalmond well considering the two films from a historic view the 2004 film is the far better film, plus the 1960 film has too many flaws that make it unrealistic and i think that spoils it alot, but i prefere the 2004 film, its just so much more accurate, and detailed

The reason this film failed at the box office is because it was ambiguous. PC run amok, once again.

@victor5812 PC does have a habit of that. I believe history should be taught the way it really happened...show all of history, warts and all.

Just watched the John Wayne film again which in turn made me want to look up the soundtrack for the newer film.
All I can say is both films are very good, both with their strong points.
