@DrWordsmith nothing else I've come across has had that RDJ feel, but you might try other 90s greats like Orbital, Banco de Gaia, µ-ziq, Luke Vibert or Future Sound of London if you like this.
As others have said before, there's nothing that really sounds a lot like RDJ...but there are others that make good music like this. Check out Carbon Based Lifeforms, Aes Dana, Asura, and Cafe Del Mar.
Got this when it came out in '93 when I was in my first year at art college. It is fair to say stuff like this, Surfing on Sine Waves, Autechre and Boards of Canada changed my life.
This particular track and remix however will not get old. An absolute Classic.
@Intelectual95 LMAO, Thank you... I haven't laughed that hard since, well I don't know when... you know those IQ test sites are just information farms right? No true tests involved.. If you had an IQ above say 79, you would know music is anything with a rhythm and is up to the listen to decide if its good or not. Don't be hatin just cause your musicz told'ya too. ;)
@Intelectual95 A7X is a very good band... for their genre. Aphex Twin is is a very good group... for their genre. I personally don't dislike music for their genre (although it just so happens that rap and RB is all predictable and all sounds the same.) I love electronica and techno but I'm also an A7X fan. :) I congratulate them for making REAL ORIGINAL music using traditional methods. I congratulate Various electronic artists for making REAL ORIGINAL music using unique methods! Music is music!!
Avenged is badass... and they put on one of the best live shows I've seen, but please...
"without a computer doing it for them?" wake the fuck up, its music either way... you have obviously never tried producing. In the future... don't say dumb things and then tell us you're smart. They kinda contradict each other..
@Intelectual95 My favorite is when he tries to call out this "reall nerd bleepy bloop shit" AND then proceeds to tell us he has an 170 IQ...Who's da dog NOW, man?
93 damn. I can't imagine that. I would be hooked on this stuff. I only am just getting into electronic music and this feels so fresh and better then most new stuff.
It's pretty cool though to find this stuff now as I'm 30 and think all the best music was in the early to mid 90s. So this makes sense and is quite a refreshingly new yet nostalgic feeling.
Haha I love this remix, but *shamelessly* I must advertise that I make music too (it's on my channel) and it's terribly hard to get people to notice the good ol' starving artist haha. Only problem is, I'm not starving. :) But I can't make anything close to being this awesome anyway.
Is this the full song? I ask this because it seems to end abruptly as if it were cut off/incomplete. I especially like the 'new direction' the song goes into around 5:40.
Haha, I haven't listened to the On remixes in like ten years; I forgot that they were actually kind of good. In some ways I prefer the u-ziq and Reload mixes to their source material even though they're arguably cheesy, if for no other reason than they go more places, and I'm not crazy about Rich's percussion in that period.
Ah shit this makes sense now! I had this on my ipod as an aphex track, but thought it was too uncharacteristic of him and wondered where it fit into his discog.. but is a remix! by the ziq! .. all makes sense now.
no he does have a genre americans call it IDM and some people from the UK call it braindance,i call it braindance anyway lol awesome remix but no one can beat the man himself =]
@grandmaos well,Mike Paradinas was always on the same shelf as Richard D. James,a different kind of engaging ambient-proto-industrial sound.Proud owner of all the vinyls
@ochjoenge Well, he personally coined it "Braindance," which is both awesome and a bit weird at the same time. But that sums up Richard pretty well, yeah?
I used to describe Aphex Twin aka Richard D James music as abstract...but it is a sweet abstract!lol Had the pleasure to be in one of his performances here in Lisbon and it was awesome!
First heard this track (along w/ original and reload versions) in 1993. Forever changed how I thought of electronic music. Think about the music that was out in 1993 and imagine how refreshing this was.
brian eno and other ambient pioneers had been making similar stuff way before the 90s. not saying aphex twin didn't innovate, but i think his more ground-breaking stuff came out between 95 and 00.
@mudboy1973 Definitely. When I heard this and the stuff Warp was doing in 92/93, it was some of the best music I'd ever heard. Still is. Those times represented milestones in music.
vageness95 - check out the following artists: Venetian Snares, Electric Kettle, Satanicpornocultshop, Autechre... I think you'll find something that you'll like. As for single songs similar in "taste" I'd recommend: -Aphex Twin - IZ-US -Satanicpornocultshop - Suicide empire -Venetian Snares - Hiszekeny -Venetian Snares - Peeying_yelloq -µ-ziq - Hasty boom alert -µ-ziq - Within a sound -µ-ziq - Swan vesta And a little personal fav of mine: -Atomly - Medianoche Cheers! ^^
@NoqturnePL awww but of curse no-one ever enlists a classic track from Autechre.....like 444, Nil, 777, the trees, Autumn acid, Bass cadet, etc....my fave is still Piezo (my first time on shrooms was a blast that ill never forget)
Man, and I thought the original was a masterpeice, this absolutely took it to the highest level. can't believe this was 15 years ago! my god where does the time go. It goes to show how little progress has been made since the 90s. This track sounds like it was made today.
it all depends on how much listening you've practiced. i think this track sounds like the early 90's. and stuff made today can also sound like that.
there is a huge amount of stuff that is 20 years ahead going on right now but most people haven't practiced listenting enough to hear the subtle details.
check out - ed banger records, planet-mu, rephlex, for stuff that, although "retrospective" in some ways, very "futuristic" in others, is big in europe but still catching on (maybe it wont) in america.
looking back to my original meaning was that i imagine or assume that there is much music made that sits on a shelf for years before it's released, then when it is, it's "fresh" which points out it's "timelessness".
Oh yeah I almost forgot. itr is also the length of 8:20! I am not bashing in this video but it can't be M,E, Can it? it has been so long since i have heard this.
Actually they are the same track. I just researched and recently discovered that they are almost exactly the same. If I had a way to email you the track I would Show you what I mean. Thanks for posting this one. It sounds so mouch better than my Download!!
So that was what you were talking about. But this still is not... Uhh well... uummm hmm! maby it is not... what the song ended! this can't be the remix of ON. Becuase that track is called Maximum Electronica. Not to mention it is played at a higher speed, Plus it was missing the wave fluctuations that give you the waves in your head, as a result of your fluctuating Kinetic Energy!!!!!
the best i've ever heard, it makes me the best chill out time, when i was down or when i was high, i can not really choose which better, but this cause me very special euphoria
thank you :)

This was the tune that persuaded me to listen to non-guitar based music back in '93. It's simply awesome.
Mike Paradinas - you did yourself proud with this mix, and at such a young age!
Just wish someone could upload the full length version.

oh no! you called me out!
wait, i think i can back my claim up...
check out - ed banger records, planet-mu, rephlex, for stuff that, although "retrospective" in some ways, very "futuristic" in others, is big in europe but still catching on (maybe it wont) in america.
looking back to my original meaning was that i imagine or assume that there is much music made that sits on a shelf for years before it's released, then when it is, it's "fresh" which points out it's "timelessness".

I only know the remix on Maxium Electrica was done by u-zig.
This version is is from On Remixes not Maximum Electronica.
It's possible they are not identical.
