Lol - I hear the BBC are remaking "Lost" - it's set on the Isle of Wight and stars Danny Dyer as Jack and Katie Price as Kate. Leslie Grantham will play Johnathan Locket (who was called John Locke in the original US series).
The scripts will be largely the same - but they'll get padded out to fill the 1 hour uninterrupted running time of each episode.
US shows don't translate well to the UK either. The BBC version of Sex and the City featured men, one of which was Anthony Stewart Head (Giles from BTVS), and it was horrid. It's not the dialogue or the direction, but the right actors and the chemistry between the actors. If you don't have that, the best lines still fall flat.
The only show that translated from BBC to US were Sanford and Son, that I remember. The problem isn't the lines, but the actors. They are the wrong ones to play the roles. It's not always about who looks the best, but who fits the characters the best.
The sad thing is I've seen some of these actors act well in other TV shows. They can act, but the snippets I've seen aren't very flattering to their talent.
I'm an American and i LOVE the British version and can't believe America tried to re create this brilliant show. But I do like this actor (b/c of Eureka) and " Let him live" was funny. But he is not Ben Miles. (Don't like choice for Sally)
Sort of funny but of course it's suffering from the "US remake" curse. Is there any US remake that's reputed to be as good or better than the original? I'd love to see it. I mean, it has been tried so often, it has to work now and then.
Oh dear god. America, what the hell is wrong with you? WHY would you make this monstrosity? UK Patrick and Sally are ruined for me now....remind me not to watch a clip of American 'Jeff'...
I don't get how this is supposed to work. Why didn't they just stick with the origional? This isn't funny and please, please, please don't tell me that was supposed to be Sally.
@maxogram Technically "Friends" is the us version, since it was actually based on "coupling (bbc)" and that was a pretty great show, but of coarse the original is always better.
when "mad max" was originally released in the u.s the idiots decided to over-dub the australian dialoque with american accents. how pointless and arrogant of them, to try and claim an aussie classic.
ha ha, no really? those sick fucks, why? its not as if australians use another language.
dear god, they didn't actually air this trash, did they? i heard rumours about them making this, but this is the first visual evidence of the series i've seen. It was worse than I imagined.
oh myyy! That's so horrible.. who the f** did make that? This is unbelieveably shitty! The british version is the best and I hate those covers of it. British humor put in a US cover soap... and gosh how bad are the actors and actress? utter crap!
I think the reason that they try to make American versions is becuase 'Three's Company' was a big suceess for America in the 70s, they thought, "hey lets see what other English shows can be remade". Unfortuantely as evidence by Coupling, this does not seem to wrok most of the time.
America ruins a LOT of good UK shows. I watch PBS and BBC America all the time and my favorite shows always end up becoming Americanized. Hollywood is becoming so lame.
As an American, I must concur..The US does a poor job adapting British shows. Coupling is a show that is uniquely British and works well in that context. It would be like American versions of Doctor Who or Fawlty Towers. Just doesn't work when given American sensibilities. While I like the US version of The Office, it's a completly different show here. I love the UK version, but the US version has a charm all it's own.
They did Americanise Doctor Who in 1996 for the TV Movie and it has been trashed ever since. The only good thing about it was Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor and he was the only English thing in it.
this scene wasn't actually that bad

The only thing i found funny about that was the fact that it was Jack Carter from Eureka as Patrick.

Who's The Boss - The Upperhand (worked)
Golden Girls - Brighton Belles (BIG mistake)
The Office - The Office - totally different shows.
What the hell did they do to Coupling? I thought Melissa George was playing Susan?

I have to agree on McGann. He was a good Doctor, just didn't have a good run at a series. Eric Roberts as The Master??? That was hillarious at best.
