I love when people compare early Talk Talk to Duran2. Would Duran ever have written Hate or a song about the nightmare of seeing your friend die and not being able to help? Mark stayed true to his writing ethic all the way to the end. Amazing group and this was my favorite song on this album.
i have two theories on the meaning of this song. one would be that someone died by accident and the guy is accused of murdering him. another is the guy was a drunk driver and this song is about his remorse, shame and disbelief because he ended up running someone over and killing them
now this is music. god damn this world of utter fucking shit music today. you stupid fucking parents of kids today had the privilege of experiencing the best era in music and you so passively and obliviously turn a blind eye to the CRIME which is "music" today. You wouldnt want a sex offender hurting your child, but you embrace just as serious abuse letting rubbish music infiltrate mainstream culture & disease ur kid. U are just as to blame as the industry. Songs like this are reminders of why.
right on, man! esp all that rap BS and alternativemetalpunkrap shit! kids today (and sadly adults as well) think it's cool and hip to be a doped-up nappy-head ghetto slob wearing saggy pants w/ their undies stickin' way out! STUPID AS HELL!!!
@codern Couldn't agree more, most of today's so called music isn't of course music at all. Talk Talk should be forced fed to today's kids, maybe they might wake up to the fact that most of what is being produced today is utter shit and they haven't got the brains to realise it!!
I think they'd just puke, because after having eaten so much "Junk food" over lo these many years they couldn't stomach it? You also make anther good point in that, "they don't have the brains to realize it"! That's key!
They've been so dumbed down that they "think" that Lady Gagme is music?? Go figure.
I saw them when this album came out at UEA in Norwich..I loved them then and still do..I wish Mark would return...I close my eyes Im fifteen again, with my friends and with Steph my first real love........Great memories..."The definition of youth is life as yet untouched by tragedy"....
Pure class-Mark Hollis was a musical genius, creating without a doubt the most harmonious yet technically perfect music of his generation. Future generations will listen to his works long after most of today's rubbish has been forgotten.
I've typed several requests asking Mark Hollis to come out of "retirement" and bring his troops together for ONE FINAL world tour. The support would be overwhelming, especially in America, but from the comments it is obvious Talk Talk has a worldwide audience waiting for another tour. Talk Talk is waaaaaay ahead of their time, which is why they would "fit" perfectly in today's music mix. There is no band on earth like this one.
This is, I know it's really hard to pick and choose, but something about this song strikes a chord in me, and it is hauntingly beautiful. Love it. Could have seen these guys in 1986 at Red Rocks, which is near Denver, Colorado. The line up of bands were as follows: Berlin (yeah, the sex band), Talk Talk and headlining was Stevie Ray Vaughn. What a bizarre but truly inventive mix of bands in an evening. Wish I would've gone. Mark Hollis' voice is so unique and live he sounds awesome.
When I heard TalkTalk the very first time I was about 23. I heard all tracks hundred and hundred times. Today I can say that' this music is one of the best and I wished I could turn back the time. Everything now is shit!
from wikipedia, no need for further comments: Despite Hollis's absence from the public eye, he (as well as Talk Talk) continue to be mentioned in the press, inside Britain and outside, often as an example of an artist who refused to sacrifice his artistic ambition to commercial success and as a yardstick for current artists.[5][6][7] His complete withdrawal from the public eye continues to fascinate music critics.
Hello rbirrell, That's it...he does sounds like Brian Ferry. Hollis has beautifully lacrimonious ...wispy and sad tone to his voice. What really draws me is the lyrics..."A little earlier, It was a game.. I guess the barrier must have dropped away" ;..)...
@aviatrix911 some critics claim that they were just another version of duran duran on that first album.. I beg to differ! talk talk were not yuppies in disguise, were they? Apart from that the first album wasn't quite up to what they achieved later on, imo. This track is beautiful though, and it's not the only one
Hello, what's this then? People keep saying their first album is rubbish and the later ones are better. I heard this song and assumed it was from one of those later albums. What a load of crap to say this first album is not up to scratch.
Hello ajs41, I'm in complete accord with your statement. Moreover I feel robbed of the opportunity to have enjoyed this music all these years but of course the blame lies squarely on my shoulders. Well I'm making up for lost time while I convalesce from an accident. Also I think the bass player Paul Webb and the drummer Lee Harris are the best around. they get overlooked too,too often. I Absolutely Love these melodies...need to listen them over and over and over.....Thank you and Adieu
@ajs41 I think you'll find that their next one, ''It's my life'', is just a little more rounded and mature, eventhough it's in the same style ballpark with ''Talk Talk'' (later on, of course, they found an entirely new direction, starting with their third album, which was sort of an 'in-between'er'). But That's not meant as criticism of the very early Talk Talk. I like several of the songs on their first one - but it's only natural that some bands may need a little time to get the hang of it
"ColourOfSpring" ... Thank you so very much for posting this extensive collection of Talk Talk music ... I remember Marc's awesomely haunting voice so well from the early '80s ... what incredibly beautiful music Talk Talk produced.
damn werent they fuckin brilliant havent heard this album sice i was 20......hollis what a voice not easily beaten....webb & harris the doggs too........
spot on cloudbuster. simon cowell / x factor / BGT pleeeease take note : this is quality music, written by talnted musicians and not th shit you churn out.
Hey askhamm I'm with you, I've been listening to this since it came out. And appelsientje, I'm so glad a young guy (or girl) like you digs it as well, and I think 3.03-3.20 is one of the saddest and happiest things I've ever heard. BlackSkyThunder, you get it as well.
They are genius, this song can only be made by some virtous people..it´s difficult to explain the feeling they put in this song, they reach the top when they say it´s hard to sleep at night. They realize how the world is bad, the only thing you have to do to realize it is when you plan to hear rhe news.
colour of spring provides the lyrics to all the talk talk tracks, just click on more info.but i know what you mean,i struggled myself on a lot of his vocals.
bands just don't make albums like this anymore.where each song has it's own individuality and can change your mood accordingly.truly classic and will never leave my all time top ten. p.s the quality is excellent..cheers
TalkTalk in the Party's Over was simply over the top. Perfect beyond ..drumming, PURRFECT Synth, unbelieveable vocals. Great later Jazz music like Thomas dolby, but synth would've taken off even more if the group stayed Pat. I respect Hollis a lot, however , he should've put his ego aside a little bit maybe ? They had the potential of a nuclear weapon without even ever going full commercial.
I totaly agree with you!I'm 37 and talktalk is my favourite band since i'm 13.And i'm in love with Mark since i'm 13 too(but don't tell it...it's a secret!!!lol)
