Though yeah, you're right about the carpet thing.. it does prevent airflow.

I did notice though that whenever I just kept the window open and my room was cold as hell, the random horizontal lines got fixed.. but when I closed the window and I was freezing, they appeared again. So it clearly did overheat. But it surely had enough air.

it laying on a carpet doesnt help...... One reason u get the error is because your system fills with dust...... Carpets have lots of dust.....Any way when this dust is in the xbox and the fans goes on it causes it to spread and go into the graphics card..... So the card is dirty and the xbox cant handle it causing the e74

You are not any more likely to ge an E 74 error message when playing Call of Duty because the E 74 error message refers when the HANA or the ANA graphics chip is lose or defective. Puting in Call of duty cannot cause hardware failure.

One way to fix is Do a 12v fan mod and cook the thing. i bought a 20 dollar xbox with e74 Error and repaired it and the 12v fan mod keeps the thing cold.
