  • One of the few WCW angles that didn't fall flat on it's arse. Pity that after the NWO rose from this, they did it to death.

  • was watching this flipping between raw and nitro when this aired. thankfully i stayed on nitro that night. ahhh good times

  • the need to let this stable rest they trted re doning with The main event mafia' nexus ' & now immortal there will never be another stable like The nWo

  • Awesome angle, too bad they watered it down a few years later.

  • i miss wcw when the ntake over began only thing wwf had going was undertaker

  • if i had a time machine i wouldnt go back in history and do something important lol id just go back to the first appearance of scott hall on nitro and put myself front row haha

  • And to think, all that hype for a six-man tag match main event. Compare that to today, and put any six together for a main, and see the reaction... lukewarm at best.

Proved to be the perfect combination of promotion and star power.

  • Am I the only one who gets goosebumps when I see the old Outsiders angle from 1996? As hot as wresting became over the next few years, this was the reason. ONE angle changed wresting forever. Man do I miss it!

  • Back when it was ok to be wrestling fan. Damn I miss it

  • It was a awesome time in our lives.

  • Without a doubt the greatest storyline in wrestling history.

  • does anyone know the song in the promo? i like it and wanna download it. can someone tell me what it is? thanks

  • Awesome promo. Awesome time during wrestling. I never predicted the 3rd man was Hogan, until he came down the isle later that night, then I was thinking......."Oh man, wait dont tell me..."

  • @TheWrestlingMemories The bar was set so high, rasslin' never was able to reach that level of surprise ever again. Just listen to the crowd while Hogan hung in mid-air for that leg drop. I swear, time stopped for a second!

  • @psychogorilla I couldn't agree more. Been going to wrestling events and watching in the 80s mainly NWA/WCW. I was there when Nash powerbomb Eric on them tables. For once in my life I didn't look at wrestling being fake because Hall and Nash been in WCW before it made it even more real. And the Hogan turn I never saw it coming. When Hogan planted that leg drop on Savage I just remember me and my friends just sitting there in shock shaking our heads saying that isn't right.

  • @psychogorilla Then Sting walking out on WCW was very real to. The wrestlers and the fans turned their backs on Sting. When he came out in white face paint black ball bat nWo/WCW fans just sat there. You reacted when he reacted. another when Scott Hall tried to give DDP a nWo shirt since DDP used to be his manager and he turned and diamond cut him. By far the most realistic greatest storyline in pro wrestling ever. It will be moons before wrestling fans will see something like that again.

  • What is up with this music. WCW always have crappy production values... at least the WWF could make decent theme songs and videos to promote their wrestlers.

  • @jakal911 Yeh but that was WCW for ya. But I loved this music though, it also brings back great memories of this storyline. I watched this live on PPV and could not believe Hogan was the third man.

  • I agree. Best wrestling story line ever.

  • I wonder why WCW won't choose Hulk Hogan to fight against Outsiders, so the truth is Hulk Hogan going to be turned heel after all.

Now WWE going to have new hostile takeover storyline, now The Nexus against John Cena's team in Summerslam.

  • so what came first, the nwo take over of wcw, or when ECW invaded wwf? notice i only put ECW in caps because well, they deserve it.

  • @DOGxDAYxSONxRISE nWo took over WCW in July '96. ECW invaded WWF in 1997. Also, so you know, that wasn't a takeover. They were allowed in, as ECW was getting paid by the WWF because Heyman couldn't pay for shit.

  • @DOGxDAYxSONxRISE nwo happened first. ECW was an orignal though

  • WCW was great from 96-98, i think TNA is trying to do the same thing, but i dont think it will work. 1. in WCW no one knew this would happen, and that added a great deal to a great story. 2. hall, nash, hogan cant do it like they did in 96, almost 15 years takes its toll. the best they can do i think is bring back WCW 98 somewhat. still we need a good monday night war again, WWF stepped up after WCW took the lead.

  • @GordonRyan80 Vince McMahon is a little smarter now. This will never happened again because he will not lose his top 2 stars again because he knows better. Could you imagine If Randy Orton and Batista ever left WWE to TNA and became Like the outsiders and tried to take over TNA, VINCE MCMAHON WOULD HAVE A BIG FUCKING PROBLEM.

  • The reason this worked so well was that WCW took a huge risk and turned Hogan heel, nobody ever thought they'd see Hulk playing the villain instead of the hero. Add Hall & Nash in their prime, as well as guys like Sting and even Lex Luger was over, and people ate it up. The only problem was that the nWo told everyone WCW sucked, and dominated them so much, that by the time they disbanded finally, no one cared about WCW anymore since they were told so often how much it sucked.

  • I remember thinking at point leading up to the BATB - "I wonder when/if Hulk Hogan is going to respond to all of this?"

It's kind of funny in retrospect.

  • Razor Ramon and Diesel

    The Outsiders

    Scott Hall and Kevin Nash

    The nWo

    The Band

  • The WWE had to make its owner a "heel" just to compete with the WCW, thats funny IMO.

  • For some reason, I've got the feeling that history may repeat itself with TNA very soon. If WWE lets go two HUGE stars that are close buddies and they run off to TNA as an another version of the Outsiders, it'll 1996 all over again!

I hope that is the case...

  • I didn't think anything could kill the WCW-nWo feud. When the Austin-McMahon feud began, I ate crow and asked someone to pass the ketchup.

  • The nWo Hostle Take-over of WCW Storyline >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The WCW/Alliance Invasion of WWF Storyline.

  • AMEN ! I don't like Bischoff much but he did an EXCEPTIONAL job with this angle.

  • damn you health class! They told us we were going through changes.

  • lol

  • Best Wrestling Storyline ever.

  • Wish wcw was back in full swing. Had a great time growing up with wcw. Never watched wwf back then. Had to much respect for sting to watch wwf. The good old days. lol

  • i hear you man.

i live in the UK.nitro started at around 7:30 i think, and raw a little later.

there was always the struggle of deciding to stick with wcw or switchin over.

in the end after seeing promos like this,it was wcw all the way.

  • i had the advantage of owning a little known invention called the vcr which allowed me to record both, awsome machine

  • what channel was nitro on

  • Bischoff was in the zone during this period, with all the guys...They had it all, but at some point, Bischoff strayed from what got him ahead and let the 'voices' rise beneath him...it was quite the run, Hall was awesome and Nash and Hogan, but together it was really something to watch...Vince was heading down but luckily he stone cold after Bischoff got rid of him, and vince used this against him...On the other side there's heenan workin for bischoff, hmm what a sight the wrestling business is.

  • The WWF fell asleep and WCW moved in and blew up the industry. I give Eric Bischoff credit for having a plan with the NWO. He was a visionary! The problem was that he needed to push younger stars, not only cater to the top talent, and be more prepared rather than always being spontaneous. That is good to an extent, but you must have a master plan like Vince. I can't stand WWE and Vince McMahon and wish WCW would have won the war, but they had their chance and didn't capalize on tons of talent.

  • Another error that Eric made

    The guaranteed Money

  • That was around before he turned up. It was a Turner thing.

  • True but it was when Eric wanted to bring in the big talent who needs money

    Hogan,Savage,Luger,Hall,Nash

I could go on but i wont

  • I was watching more wrestling at this point then any other time in my life. I was 13 and my parents never once let me get a pay per view, so I had to talk on of my boys into asking his parents and we had a party. All of us couldn't believe what happend. We were wrestling one another, pillows, pool sticks, anything we could get our hands on.

  • this music sounds alot like Seal's Crazy.

  • I think this has to be the best wrestling angle EVER

  • This one and the Austin vs McMahon angle were the biggest ones.

  • if it wasn't the best it was surely the coolest.

  • The day the face of wrestling changed forever.

  • the more of these old clips I watch the more I miss the glory days of wrestling. This is when wrestling was fun.

  • This was a refreshing change from the Dungeon of Doom and Horseman always trying to screw Hulkamania over.

  • Awesome!, McMahon take note, this is how you build up a ppv

  • I miss the days when there was two competing companies...as much as I'd like to see TNA succeed, so far they haven't been a threat to WWE really. Hopefully things will turn around and we can have another great rivalry like WWF and WCW did.

  • Dting was the oringal 3 man but im so glad it Hulk Hogan

  • i mean sting

  • Shawn Michaels would have been the third man is we went with them to WCW.

  • shawn was the biggest superstar in the WWF, there wasn't a chance he'd leave

  • Great fucking promo.

  • man, this happened when i was a kid and sting was my fav., when scott hall confronted him, I was so hooked to this. Week after week, something new would happen, you always wondered what would happen next, they played this soooo good having the heels AND faces of wcw band together to fight them off, only to find out that the biggest face of em all was the 3rd man.....man, that was some GREAT stuff

  • My favorite time watching wrestling, hands down!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • best memories of 1996

  • now this was when I enjoyed watching wrestling. I rarely watch wrestling these days because it pretty much sucks. Would have been funny if Eric turned around looked at Nash and said, "Oh My God!! It's OZ!!"..haha

  • Or Vinnie Vegas...

And Scott Hall...could've called him "Gator," or Diamond Studd, or Starship Coyote...

    Oh early 90s gimmicks...

  • Despite all WCWs short-comings and fuck ups, they played the Hostile Invasion/nWo thing to a fucking tee

  • @Damnumopnglow I agree

  • @Damnumopnglow very good point sir, wcw along with wwe have both had their downfalls in promos and story lines, lets not all just focus on the bad of wcw, but the NWO and Four Horseman storylines and feuds were top of the line, and played out very very well i can't deny it. and now with the Nexus and anonomous general manager at wwe, they are starting to get storylines going again, and the same goes with TNA with ECW, we are on the brink of VERY good wrestling competition coming up soon...

  • @Damnumopnglow 100% agree.

  • @Damnumopnglow When Vince bought WCW he had the chance to kinda do the same thing with a WCW invasion. Total fail.

  • why is it that this footage infact all the footage of wcw and wwf never gets old, but these days u just embarrsed for the wrestlers today

  • This footage never gets old. I can still remember watching this unfold when it happened. Great storylines, and it always left you wanting more. It made you come back the next week just to see what was going to happen. I really miss those days of people who could actually wrestle, guys who could work the mic, and ACTUAL stories being told, regardless if it was WCW or then WWF. Good entertaining tv!

  • I watched this on my birthday. I day that wrestling made history, despite that I was more of a WWF person.

  • A date that changed wrestling forever.

  • This was when WCW was getting good...

  • wat was also amazing is that at this time they were trying to pass kane off as diesel

  • are you an idiot, that was a fake diesel and they weren't trying to pass him off as him...it was a spoof

  • razor ramon(scott hall) couldve playyed a good wolverine in his younger days

  • wcw had planned this so well that it made many people watching and wwe did not even comment on hall and nash.
