ellefson was a founding member of megadeth, the bass player the mustaine refers to as being in the band before ellefson, was actually in a short lived band called the fallen angels right after leaving metallica. When that didnt quite work out, he met ellefson and his room mate greg handevidt and formed megadeth with drummer dijon carruthers. So ellefson technically is a megadeth founding member.

Metallica would've have completely self destructed if Dave had stayed, then there would've been neither Metallica or Megadeth. Dave, Lars and James wouldn't have lasted more than 4 years longer in the same band together cuz there egos would've gotten in the way, James and Lars barely manage at times. The best thing that happened to metal, truly is Dave being fired from Metallica, in a personal opinion of course
