I had the same thought on my way into work this morning: it doesn't matter how many people like McCain; the only real motivation for the Reds to vote this year is if they are Veterans, Christian Crazies, or are "afraid of Obama the socialist". Those don't add up to the number of people smitten by Obama and the number of people who associate McCain with Bush. The Palin thing confuses me. I don't understand why everyone isn't repulsed by her. She makes me nauseated. I guess it's the Jesus.

PHP is right - this Republican ticket is all over the place. From their point of view they need to reboot Lincoln's party and give it back its dignity. Losing the votes of the fundies at the extremities would be compensated by a more solid base of people on the right, and uncommitteds in the centre. It would take a lot of repositioning to make me want to vote for them, but a lot of other people might. I'm just looking forward to Obama winning tonight. If not, I'll think I'll slash my wrists.

I think Ron Paul is good in debates, and he seems like a swell guy. But in my opinion his thinking on his strong point of the economy is to simple. Free competition is good for the market capitalist system, yes, but it is people that have to live in that system. Free competition looks good on paper, but we just have to look at the natural world to see how lovely it actually is.
